Lovely colours and tones. It helps to really understand the colours when I do these types of exercises. Thanks for the reminder to do some more. 😊😊

This was SOOOO helpful. I'd love to see another study using Burnt Sienna and colors that harmonize

You've successfully identified the problem with the palette I work with....Far too many colours used which all seem to clash! . Thankfully you've also identified the solution....Stick to 3 primaries+white+black. This will dramatically change the way I paint in the future. Can't believe such a limited palette can actually produce so many colours/tones etc . And these colours with be harmonious rather than to work against it. Thanks for this. Tremendously useful for me and others like me. 👍

I found it really important to use great quality paints...or none of this color mixing works! Love your style and videos.

Yes absolutely, need good quality paint. Too much filler and often bad color pigments in the cheap brands.

Truly enlightening! This is wonderful for establishing values while keeping the hue related!

Awhile back I started a color mixing chart but was doing it in a very labor intensive way. This is so much easier and quicker AND so much more fun! Thank you!!!❤️

This is the most helpful art lesson I have had. I really have been haphazard with color mixing (beginner painter) and now I have a much better idea how to do it.

You could make your own charts with any other colors you like. The true benefit of this exercise is doing it yourself and to keep and have as reference for your paintings.

I was thinking about the color until recently. I struggled to find natural colors, and I didn't like the colors I used. Thanks to you, I learned how to make good colors. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! I have not painted for a year and a half and this has been a great review! I made a lot of mud today so this reminds me to go back to swatches

  • @jeffmoodie6144

I went with ultramarine blue, cad yellow primrose, pyrrole red and burnt umber instead of black. The umber and blue make a near black which can be quite neutral when white is added as well as making an interesting muted green when yellow is added instead of white to lighten it.
I’ve tried other reds, blues and yellows and those three just work out well for me.

    Hello Painters 🎨
In this video I'll show you the easiest way to mix beautiful and harmonious colors in acrylics without all the theory. Using this method everyone can mix beautiful colors without guesswork, without the fear of creating dreaded "mud" or waisting paint!
During my years as an art instructor I've gotten tons of good questions about mixing paint and tonal colors. And color mixing is a vast subject and also a very important one. But what do you do when you just want to paint without first learning all the theory behind it all? In this video I'll show you one way to get started and how you can mix beautiful muted colors in no time.
This color mixing techniques can be used when painting everthing from abstract landscapes to flowers, animals and purely abstract paintings. Once you use this technique there's no going back, you'll love how easy and fun this is. Happy painting!

Yep, just the lesson I was looking for! I was always “guessing” as you said, and usually had 8 or more tubes of paint laid out. And the mud. Oh the mud!!! I would have been a great brick layer. Anyway, thanks for sharing this and I’m going to make up one of those reference note books. Cheers!

You are so calm and logical. Ive tried your style and its all messed up. You I think know a lot more about realistic technique than I do. But what you do is wonderful and you make it look easy but without an idea of composition this can mess up.

Maybe a reddish violet could work. But the beauty is that we mix the colors we already have and that way we'll discover new and exciting colors we never knew we could mix - I think you'll find that it's quite addictive and fun once you get going and mixing. Thanks for watching and happy painting :)
