    Nice work! My favorite thing is the lamp hanging from a bracket. That idea I'll use in my new cabin.

    Thank you for your video, enjoy your project very much, just did a couple things different, first I bought my wood already with the same width, and stained it all before it was cut, to me it was much easier this way, then it was just to cut to the necessary measure, nailing I didn't look for the studs, I simply use 1" 1/4 finished nails, and the trick was nail the boards position the nais in sideway 45°angle in opposite rows, that was much easy not to be worried to be always on the studs. Before that I tested a 24" board nailing to a piece of sheet rock and the result was very positive, I had a hard time to remove or separated the board out of the sheet rock, thankfully.

      You could probably do a peel-n-stick laminate. You would just need a utility knife to make any necessary cuts. It would be more expensive, but may be something to think about. Good luck with woodworking, and thanks for checking out my video. :)

    I'm searching for a faux finish technique for the exposed beams in our living room. Love the use of the boards in yours! My husband chose to use bead board in our living area... now renovating dining area and kitchen... and finishing off the living room. We refinished the ceiling with a stipple effect today. NOW, to figure out how we want to "faux finish" the exposed beams. *G* Not fun for me I hate heights, anything over 2 foot is too much! *G* I'll look at more of your videos for ideas! THANKS!

    Very nice work your wall looks great. I did a similar wall in our living room and used wood fence slats which are thicker but after watching your video and seeing you used Bender Board, I would certainly recommend that people use the Bender Board like you did. I like that the bender board is thin and if you have molding, the thinner the wood is the better so it doesnt protrude out past the crown and base board molding. Again, great job I will be doing another wall and will use Bender Board this time thanks for the video!

    Hi God bless you and yours!!
    Really nice job. But how do you obtain so many colors with only 2 stains?

    • @MuralsbyMarcyV
      @MuralsbyMarcyV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Felipe. May God bless you and your family, as well. The bender board I used had very inconsistent coloring to begin with. But, using a paint brush, I would layer one stain over the other, then flip flop the order on different pieces. Sometimes, I just used one. Other times I'd put multiple layers of stain to make the color darker, or barely put any at all to make it lighter. I was experimenting with different combinations the whole time, and was so happy with how it all turned out in the end. Thanks for checking out my video.

    Looks awesome. I know people say grey's are cooler or cold but to me the are just Cool! And cool to me says warm and come on in! My entire home is decorated around grey with pops of blacks and whites on one level. Pops of black and red on the second level and the top level is pops of turquoise and aqua. I do all my trim in bright white. I love your accent wall. Perfect. You did an excellent video. Good tips on the different width of the bender board. I learned that the hard way last year in my own similar project. Keep them coming! The videos I mean. Thanks for the time and effort.

    Hey Marcy, I love what you did. My husband and I are doing that too. Our walls are 8.5 X 8.5 and I was wondering in order to cut the panels in 3 different lengths what would you suggest they be? Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

      It's really a matter of personal preference and how much work you want to do. The smaller the pieces, the more cutting and nailing. My wall is 10 x 12, so we cut 4', 2', and 1' pieces. Then we ended up cutting smaller custom pieces to fill in the odd areas. Hope this helps. Thanks for checking out my video.

    I like the concept. My question is how complicated is to remove the dust from the wall knowing that it is rusty wood and you are using only Wood stain. thanks for the video

      I have never had to dust my wall. But now, I'll be checking to see how clean it is. Lol.

    The wall looks great! I know this video is a year old but where did you get the bender boards? I live in New York and can only find the pvc type ones. Thank you!!

      I found the bender boards at Lowe's. Home Depot carries them, as well. However, I don't know if it's a regional thing, because I've had a lot of people comment that they can't find them. Hopefully, you can find them in New York. Thanks for checking out my video, and good luck with your project.

    very nice. did you sand the wood before you stained it? i like the colors but dont like a rough wall do you think sanding is good?

    • @MuralsbyMarcyV
      @MuralsbyMarcyV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for checking out my video. That's a good question. In this case, I didn't sand them, because the wood wasn't that rough. If I had a baby crawling around, who might rub up against the wall, I probably would have. It just depends on the individual project and if you're going for a particular look.

    Marcy wonderful video!! I have a cedar ceiling and one cedar wall. Do you think this gray would go well with it? What is that color called anyway?

    • @MuralsbyMarcyV
      @MuralsbyMarcyV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for checking out my video, Katy. I really couldn't tell you how it would look on your cedar ceiling or wall, but I would definitely encourage you to get a sample piece of cedar to just try it out on and see if you like it. The stains I used were called "Weathered Gray" and "Willow" by Rust-Oleum. Depending on how much of the gray I used, some of my pieces came out more like a blue-gray. I loved it, though. Worked for my project.

    we are ready for us to do our project in the living room and so the orange is painted on the wall, the wood is cut, the tools are prepared. However what are the size of the brad nails. because we are like you and your family... fads change and our needs do too!! (i do realize that your video is a couple years old so I hope you check on comments)

      Laura Matsuyama Because the bender board is so thin, we used 1” brad nails. It’s held up perfectly. Good luck with your project. Thanks for checking out my video. 😊

      @@MuralsbyMarcyV Thank you for responding. I enjoyed your video. I now know that we can get started on our wall with more confidence after seeing your video. we did decide to paint the wall behind and space out the wood so that the the color comes through, we are also debating if we should but up lights but that maybe a little to much!! :) Aloha!

    Looks great!!! I am unclear about how you got such a color variations with just two stains. Did you first stain all the wood, then add watered down paint for color variations? If you did, what paint colors did you use? There is too much blue and white to occur with just two wood stain colors. What did you do specifically? Sorry to be a pest but I want to do this too. Thanks so much!

    • @MuralsbyMarcyV
      @MuralsbyMarcyV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for checking out my video Tanya! I did only use two stains; the gray and the white, but I applied them differently to each piece of wood. Because I used bender board, the pieces I bought came in varying shades to begin with. So, some I left pretty close to natural, while others I applied heavy stain. I did light layers of gray, then went back and streaked it with white stain, some I did two layers of gray stain and then added the white, some I did the complete opposite, I did some just gray, some just white, and I never cleaned my brush in between. I think that is the biggest trick. Don't clean your brush. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project!
