    Love this exercise, for those that wish to do it as well ... a little help for finding the beginning of each drill:
    First at 3:57, Second at 5:41, Third at 7:15, Fourth at 9:05.
    I'm playing at Bb tuba so I slightly adjusted his note choices ... for example in the 2nd and 4th exercise I use the pedal Eb as my starting point (my lower register any lower is hard to play consistently especially with these huge jumps). I will leave the drills 5 and more for when I've worked out the technical problems in 1 to 4.

    I have had great things happen to my playing when I do your drills, Chris! I would really love to buy them in PDF form whenever you can get them done!

      I know it is kind of randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to stream newly released tv shows online?

    Hey Chris I just happened to come across this really insightful video. P.S. I'm really liking the axe that you're playing on and your tone is really rich and creamie. Tell me, how can one acquire such insightful exercises?

    In the third set, where you are going from low C (two ledger lines below staff) to the C in the staff and then going down by half-steps, are you glissing back up to the C in the staff?

    I'm trying to get that pedal to octave on my BBb tuba and it's kiiiiinda hard. I can play the pedal just fine, but I find that I'm moving my jaw too much. Should one play pedals WITHOUT jaw movement?

      You shouldn’t think about the mechanics of what you’re doing. Focus on air, sound, and relaxation and allow your chops to be affected by the air. The chops are secondary to the concept. Most everybody shifts at some point in their low register.

      That happens to me the same..
      While I make those huge jumps I move the jaw too much...is it completely secondary ?

      For me to get a nice pedal I shift my embrochure. But I wouldn’t really worry about pedals much (unless you’re more advanced) ... The lowest I’ve had to play is only a Db, and most band music doesn’t call for tubas to play lower than an Eb. Like the other people said, focus on tone and control before you get to pedals, or even extreme highs. Hoe this helps:)

    By the way, what's the brand, key and model of that beautiful axe you did this video with?

      in case you still wanna know, this is a Yamaha YCB-862S Custom CC Tuba which is really difficult to get a hold of and costs about $35000 or so.

    • @yogi_yogort
      @yogi_yogort 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did a little research and found that it is a custom Yamaha tuba and I am not quite sure of the model so I don't know of a way to tell if they are mass producing this exact tuba or if Olka himself asked it to be designed a specific way? I don't know but definitely correct me if I am wrong.

    • @macemaster124578
      @macemaster124578 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They only produce these in extremely limited quantities for professionals. They invite them over to Yamaha to try the tubas themselves and let them make a judgement. It costs about 35 to 40k USD but from what i've seen and heard, it is one hell of a tuba, and i think chris here definitely does not regret buying TWO of these (i know this from tubenet) but yeah these are mainly for pros and not average joe tubists like you and I

    Why does the tuba has a 5th velve?

    • @heathkennedy1406
      @heathkennedy1406 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s to increase the range of the instrument, particularly in the low register and helps with tuning in the low register. You may even see F tubas with as much as 6 valves.
