In the words of the kid from Jurassic Park…. “That doesn’t look very scary” 😆 I’m headed here for my first time ever in my new Jeep today at 1pm!!! Excited!
I LOVE powerwagons. I'm on my 3rd one right now, a 16. Prior to this I had an 07 in Colorado when stationed there, had an 05, and now my 16. LOVE the 6.4 sound and the interior comfort, and of course it's capability to tackle just about anything. I love being able to hang with the Jeeps, even if I have to make more point turns. :)
Nice Video! Those Power Wagons are great. People are always so surprised when the see a full size rig out on tough trails. I love the look on my buddy's face when I follow him in his jeep with my crew cab Silverado LOL
That was quite a trek. You mentioned how stable the truck was compared to the shorter Jeeps. But it seemed to take a lot longer than it would have with Jeeps. Is that my imagination? Good video Justin. Can't get enough of your scenery (Colorado & Utah).
Awesome video. Yes the torque in 4 low out powers the brakes. I use hill decent. The truck drives it self at my speed setting. without one slip on the mud covered, rock covered, dirt covered , gravel covered hills. You can even have hill decent on climbing up the hill so if god forbid you do have a heart attack the truck takes over with hill decent going backward. All you have to do is drive it through the rear gate camera. Power wagon is awesome. I use mine to tow my 10,000lbs fully loaded Toy Hauler in soft sand. Beach and dunes. Lockers pull hard. Colorado is glorious. Havent been there yet. Thanks for sharing.
I just stumbled across your channel and had to watch. I am an avid off-roader and have a Mavic Air. Your drone shots are perfect. I really have a hard time figuring where to spot the drone. Who is flying the drone. I have to do it while driving. That's always tricky. I only get about 15 minutes of flight time. I like the fact that you don't have loud music playing in the background, Thanks, nice job!
I was operating it while driving in accordance with part 107, but honestly I set it up for a side profile and told it to follow me. I kept an eye on it via the tablet and made sure it stayed in my line of sight, and got about 20 minutes out of it due to the wind. I do get comments a lot about no background music! Thanks for stopping by, I have a recovery video going live here soon from yesterday.
My 08 ram quad cab surprised me with how well that big pickup gets around the trails and some good climbs I just have a leveling kit and stock size (for now) 10 ply at tires. Good times
Totally not used to the extra length of the wagon off-road, but ironically enough aside from the mirrors the truck isn't much wider than the Jeep. Inches on each side at most.
Really appreciate your cool Power Wagon adventure video! I'm from Nebraska and went up that last year in my 16 PW. Had Cooper STT Pro 35s and it was fun. Was a little hesitant to do it because I was a lone rig and the sun was about to set so if i got in trouble it could've been ugly, oh well that's what adventure is all about lol. Can't wait to go back and see if my 37 inch Patagonias make a noticeable difference. But it sounds like maybe it's a little more chewed up lol. Nice rigs! And nice rooftop tent etc . Wish i was a little closer!, Would really love to go Wheeling with u guys! I just got back from wheeling at Moab on Fins, Hell's, and Poison Spider Mesa. Really really cool and excited to go to PWIM 2020 in Sept at Moab. Wishing i would've made my Hell's Gate "Power Wagon Wheelie" video, on TH-cam, without the blaring music. I don't know how to edit. My 15 Y/O boy did my video on his iPhone lol. You did good by leaving it off your video. Would b cool to run in to u guys on a trail sometime 😁 take care. th-cam.com/video/anehf_Yf68U/w-d-xo.html
heck yeah you'd do just fine on 37s, i am on 35s inch falken wild peaks and while i got into my sliders a bit, mike (the other power wagon) is on 37s and an extra 2 inches of lift and didn't touch a thing. these are incredibly capable trucks right from the factory, and I intentionally took some hard lines because I had extra help on site to assist with any possible recovery. i can't go to PWIM this fall but I was there the week in may it should have been with a jeep. maybe one of these days we'll bump into ya!
oh absolutely, there are a bunch within 30-60 minutes that can get pretty fun pretty fast. google search "boulder MVUM" and it should come up with the forest service road status.
What are your thoughts on a 2500 with the Cummins with a Carli/Theuren suspension lift versus a PW? Looking at both options, I have a 3500 with the Cummins and love the diesel.
they are very disproportionately heavy up front from the weight of the diesel. but lifted it'll do almost what a power wagon will. the lockers are totally necessary if you're good at tire placement. But having that disconnecting sway bar sure help keep your tires on the ground.
Justin King Thanks! Have you test drove the Tremor? Only leg up Ford has is offering the diesel and the 7.3 looks pretty good. Not a Ford fan but it’s a nice looking truck.
I have not yet. I am a big ford fan. It's all I've ever driven for trucks, but I was kinda let down when the "power wagon killer" didn't have a front locker, sway bar disconnect, and a winch. It doesn't compete. So I bought a Ram for the first time in my life and I love it haha!
@@JustinKingOffroad I hear ya! I was kind of disappointed with that too. Plus you get the winch with the PW as well. I want to go test drive one. I'm kind of like you with a Jeep and a truck haha. Not sure if I want the Gladiator, if a want truck it has to be a full size. PW is like a Rubicon on steroids.
Very cool country & the drone footage is fantastic. Did any 'forest pinstriping' result? We get a lot of 'desert pinstriping' from the Mesquite in NM off road exploits.
Great footage Justin loving that drone. I'm from California and we usually make a trek to Ouray each year. Will put this route on our bucket list, thanks for the video. Did you break out that can of Black Paint when returned home ? 😎🤘
for whatever reason people REALLY like videos without music. when i don't have a 2nd audio stream from a gopro while flying the drone, i do tend to put in some elevator music. but it's not for the whole video.
Sick and tired of music blaring. Videos like these should just be narrated. I like to hear everything you have to say. The good, the bad or whatever. Just keep it real. If there is music, keep it down low in the back ground. Thank you. I like to take my truck out exploring. 2500HD 4x4 Duramax, Denali. I need an aftermarket front bumper before I would try rocks like those. Beautiful area.
Justin, curious how you are setting up for obstacles. Do you have the rear locker on all or most of the time. Sway bar disconnected? Front locker off until you need it? Thanks for another fun video..
What was the height when the drone reached the altitude limit? Definitely agree with the lads regarding no music and only natural sounds and that hemi. I don’t like the cab sounds with the beeping going on. That’s the benefit of my 3rd gen I guess. I’m sure your interior is nicer than mine but for a truck I beat on I’m over that.
400 feet AGL is where the drone freaked out. but... it was actually only about 50 feet off "the ground." it's just where i took off from, so i over-rode it. i could have shut off the parking sensors but it honestly helps know i'm about to smash a rock lol!! I'll have a recovery video coming hopefully tomorrow some time, just got back from yanking a JK off storm mountain.
not a stupid question at all. yes i am. i set it up to side profile the truck and just kept an eye on it, adjusting the position as needed for shots. as a part 107 SUAS license holder operating from a moving vehicle is allowed if it can be done safely. aka there was nobody else around except my friend ahead of me.
the air compressor is the arb twin portable setup with tank in the box. it came that way. i did add on the "jeep needs hurricane" manifold for a 4 tire air up. but i only use 2 ports at a time since i run offset tire pressures front to back. the hose is just a cut up 50' section from home depot. nothing terribly fancy.

it is pretty surprising how well these can handle legitimate offroading (vs just dirt trail driving)
Justin King I plan on going to 35’s and a better locker at some point but no complaints about how it performs now
