Glad to see another pilot making accurate flying videos TH-cam. I started making videos a week ago after seeing so many HORRIBLE FS2020 videos on TH-cam by people that have never flown real airplanes. Lots of people want to learn and it's fun sharing knowledge from a 20 year flying career so far.

This series is really helpful, not only for the explanations, but also for the little details and suggestions that you add from your real flying experience. I really hope you'll continue with more content. And again, thank you for taking the time to help new flight simmers out!

Ugh thank god for this. I'm a avid gamer and when I got Microsoft Sim I was just blown away. Totally different set of skills, nothing like I have ever experienced. I spent many a trip on the traffic pattern lesson and never could understand why I wasn't able to nail it. This vid helped tremendously. Thanks bruh.

Can´t thank you enough for doing these tutorials!!!!!!! I really love this new sim but for learning to fly you are totally left in the dark. I come from DCS where you have really excellent documentation and tons of video tutorials on every aspect of flying and now in MSFS 2020 - apart from the "on board tutorials" which at least in the german translation are pretty awful - I just cant find any material to really and systematically learn how to use this sim and it´s fantastic potential (apart from trying to translate stuff from flying an A 10 to a Cessna - which doesn´t work to well in most cases). Your channel is like an oasis in the desert...

Hey, I have REALLY ENJOYED watching your videos! The way you explain what's going on and relate it to real-world experience is really informative and exactly what I was looking for. I've been thinking about taking flying lessons for a long time, and I'm totally new to flight simulation with FS2020, your content is exactly what I was looking for.
I'm looking forward to your lesson on navigating, understanding how to use bearings and such is lost on me, I can't seem to successfully complete the last tutorial mission where you have to do it on your own.
    Thanks for the great series!

you can contact ATIS through the ATC menu, they will give you things like Wind, visibility

In addition to ATIS as someone else said, some airports will have a wind sock to show you direction. That’s easier from the ground though so ATIS is the better approach.

The live pause has a bug, the speed decreases once you set it on. Just try and look at your speed next time. You were going at 80, then it cut to 40 once live pause was pressed.

Is setting the DI heading bug to that of the runway when I'm taking off to do a circuit a good idea? This helps me visualise those 90-degree leg turns as the heading bug lines up with those 90-degree fixed outer triangles of the DI.

@@chemiegamerpeter1326 They don't tell you that on FS2020. If you look at the tape/placard to the left of the flap handle, the top 1/3 is blue. In the real airplane that blue band has 110 printed on it for the speed limitation (that band is there in the game but I'm not sure if it says 110 or not). It's been nearly 15 years since I've taught in 172s but I remember it all too well.

In the Cessna 152 I think the only way to find out is to tune into the local ATIS to get a weather report. Fancier planes can directly tell you.

I don't know how to select Airports for Landing. The Airfield Codes like LFXB and etc can't be easily found. What I mean is this, when I select ATC in top menu and then select " Airports further from you" I don't see the airport I want to land at. How can I ensure I am approaching the correct Airport if they are all listed as Codes LFXX etc? It's a serious frustration to me because even finding the corresponding Airport code in the ATC list is not obvious.

      Have you tried using skyvector.com/

    • @DonReality
      @DonReality 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@danix30001 Hi, thanks for your reply. I did try it, the problem I had was being able to read it. I try to use Heading for Airfield navigation but, there does appear to be some inconsistencies but, my guess is I'm reading it wrong. Below is an example of where I want to go LFBX.
      skyvector.com/airport/LFBX/Perigueux-Bassillac-Airport
Problem I have is determining what the actual heading is. There appears to be no Heading recorded, only Runway heading which also doesn't seem to be always accurate when I fly towards it. I read somewhere that Runway numbers are headings and to determine the right course we'd have to add a "0" so Runway 28 would essentially be at a 280 degree heading.

@@DonReality It all depends on what you are flying but here are some tips on the 152 in particular:
      1) Although outdated, you can use ADF (Automatic Direction Finder). In the 152 it is on the Copilot side; gauge with the yellow arrow. Tune that in; as you can see on the map you provided it is 389 (Perigueux-Bass) which is an NDB (Non-Directional Beacon). Once tuned in properly, look at your ADF Gauge and the needle will point towards that NDB, which is in the general direction of the Airport. Centralize that Needle and you are on your way there. In real life, if you want to confirm it is the correct NDB, you can look at the chart and confirm the morse code, then turn on the Speaker for the ADF and listen to it to confirm. The morse for this one is .--.-..-
      2) Use the built in Map in the Sim - Zoom out and find the airport
Unfortunately, you can't be assisted by VOR because there are non around this airport. Although runway numbers in general represent runway headings, 28 = 280, etc, always review the chart as the final course may actually be off, such as 279° or 281°. It's always listed on the approach chart (top left) under Final Apr Crs. Hope this helps!
