My first (and only) time seeing Six Feet Under was around 2004. They played a venue in San Diego most notable for pop-punk and emo bands and straight edge, but Cattle Decapitation was opening for them and I wanted to show support for them. Cattle was getting big, but nowhere near as big as they are now. When Cattle started, there was maybe 50-60 people. Next up was SFU. Almost the entire venue emptied, at most 15 people stayed for SFU. It was hilarious. No moshing, the crowd just stood there. I'm sure they stayed just to watch the trainwreck. Chris was visibly angry on stage.

Barnes vocals on Graveyard 1 are one of his best post CC efforts- pretty damn killer. Problem is from Warpath onwards his growl began to slowly degrade. The first four SFU albums are enjoyable if basic stoner DM, if you liked Barnes in CC, but after True Carnage his growl just becomes too weak. Anyway, one way Barnes could regain credibility is to go back to a thrash style vocal (if he can do it) and make a thrash album, since his death growl is fucked.

I had a great time watching this review. Was laughing constantly over hearing Chris's vocals get ripped apart. I was really hoping for Jack Owen to come in and completely rejuvenate SFU. Especially with all his work in Cannibal Corpse and DEICIDE. I saw SFU live once in 2012 in Worcester MA. They played with Suffocation and Revocation. Every time Barnes attempted a scream part, I swear someone was standing just off stage blowing into a whistle. As to try amplifying his screams. SFU just dropped the fourth single from the album. The song is called "The Rotting". Also, the band is aiming to release their fifth Graveyard Classics album this year, where they would be covering Rush songs.
You know as much as I may laugh at this it’s actually kind of disappointing because back in the day Chris Barnes use to have awesome Death Metal vocals he Had power, he had depth he could go low,mid and high and even do guttralish vocals and to see what he sounds like now is just flat out sucks.
I really wonder, what do you think about their album "Unborn"? I'm not really a fan of SFE but not a hater either, i kind dig some of their albums! But that albums, i think it's amazing in every aspect (production, instrumentation and the most important, Chris Barnes vocals) so I'm curios
You know to be honest I would love to see a six feet under discography ranking from you guys for a couple of reasons. 1. I actually do like a decent amount of SFU songs. At least over 50 songs. 2. I think the video would also be hilarious. Seeing all your thought on Chris and his vocals and lyrics/songs. Idk I hope you guys do it one day because we all know it would be hilarious and awesome. Cheers bro 🤘🏽
I really wish Barnes would have used his iconic CORPSE vocals on this record whilst Owen back in the ranks. 🤘I was hoping the Zero the Hero sound! The early releases of SFU are classics...once the band changed personnel I feel that the name should have changed. West,Swanson,Butler,Gall classic lineups slayed! If this record was done with any of the classic lineup featuring Owen...Well then.🤘
Spot on review guys. Plenty of laughs again as well. I only downloaded this one because haven't bought a six feet in years. And I buy a shit ton of music. But I had to check a few times to make sure I didn't download the wrong album or something. Half expected to look and see it was the new machine head album or something because they are all over the place like this was. But regardless I still love Jack Owen. Some of my favorite corpse songs were written by him. But on to the next I guess. Thanks again guys.
Ouch 🤕 that was a harsh review lol. It's so sad to see a legend like Chris Barnes fall from grace. It's like watching a boxer way passed his prime still try to fight and then gets destroyed
I've been an SFU fan since 1999, and this album is best post Barnes/Gall/Butler/Swanson line up material, love Amputator, the Noose, Dead Girls etc, so if feel too old for that staff, you indeed are
I just went back and listened too this album with the upcoming release and it's not as bad as I remembered sure it's far from perfect but a lot of it was pretty good
Man, I loved every album except Bringer of Blood and True Carnage, never cared about Graveyard Classics, but the vocals on this here have to be a joke. The Undead/Unborn stuff onwards was such a nice return to form and even had some CC riffs...just to end up with this
Man I went back and listened to the two tracks they released and the vocals are ridiculous. I had no idea that Chris Barnes sounded this way now. It's sad really. Plus how can you listen back and believe it's a good product to release? With so many quality Death metal bands old and new putting out great records these days...
Necrotic Nick- I actually just watched a live performance from 2 years ago and he was doing the same stuff vocally live. It was pretty awful but it’s Barnes show I guess. He may just be too stubborn to quit even though he knows he should.
The top three best Six Feet Under album's of all time..... *drum rolls*.... The Graveyard Classics (cover albums). But great review. What kind of genre would Six Feet be under? "We don't know what we're doing" core?
I like this album. The songs don’t sound the same at all. The riffs are different. They move in directions you wouldn’t expect. The Rotting is a good example. Barnes’s vocals are totally raw and dry as you say but it works for the music. Nobody sounds like Barnes. You know it is him for better or worse.

SFU just dropped the fourth single from the album. The song is called "The Rotting". Also, the band is aiming to release their fifth Graveyard Classics album this year, where they would be covering Rush songs.
Necrotic Nick- Dear god... no more Graveyard Classics.
Know what? An SFU cover of "Closer to the Heart" kind of intrigues me.
I keep coming to this review for a good laugh :D
Your Barnes impressions are fucking hilarious.
I hope they make many more albums so we can get more hilarious reviews like this =))
You know as much as I may laugh at this it’s actually kind of disappointing because back in the day Chris Barnes use to have awesome Death Metal vocals he Had power, he had depth he could go low,mid and high and even do guttralish vocals and to see what he sounds like now is just flat out sucks.
I really wonder, what do you think about their album "Unborn"? I'm not really a fan of SFE but not a hater either, i kind dig some of their albums! But that albums, i think it's amazing in every aspect (production, instrumentation and the most important, Chris Barnes vocals) so I'm curios
Unborn is actually really good for all the reasons you mentioned. I just don't think Barnes is trying anymore.
"The Noose"
Oh my f***ing god
"The Noose"
You know to be honest I would love to see a six feet under discography ranking from you guys for a couple of reasons.
1. I actually do like a decent amount of SFU songs. At least over 50 songs.
2. I think the video would also be hilarious. Seeing all your thought on Chris and his vocals and lyrics/songs.
Idk I hope you guys do it one day because we all know it would be hilarious and awesome.
Cheers bro 🤘🏽
"Snakes."
-Chris Barnes, 2001
Chris Barns sounds like the cookie monster nowadays
Great review! Btw, what is that song @ 0:19 playing at the background?
I really wish Barnes would have used his iconic CORPSE vocals on this record whilst Owen back in the ranks. 🤘I was hoping the Zero the Hero sound! The early releases of SFU are classics...once the band changed personnel I feel that the name should have changed. West,Swanson,Butler,Gall classic lineups slayed! If this record was done with any of the classic lineup featuring Owen...Well then.🤘
Bringer of blood was the last album I got down with Commandment was decent.
Everyone rips on Barnes. It may not be the best metal in the world but it’s my guilty pleasure. Say what you want.
If I were to ever meet Chris Barnes I’d tell him nightmares of the decomposed is my favorite album of all time, just to see how he reacts
THIS RECORD SHOULD BE AT TRILLIONS FEET UNDER!
Ouch 🤕 that was a harsh review lol. It's so sad to see a legend like Chris Barnes fall from grace. It's like watching a boxer way passed his prime still try to fight and then gets destroyed
I've been an SFU fan since 1999, and this album is best post Barnes/Gall/Butler/Swanson line up material, love Amputator, the Noose, Dead Girls etc, so if feel too old for that staff, you indeed are
In a world as divided as ours, I'm glad that albums this appallingly awful can bring people together. It's like MST3K for death metal.
I tweeted AxCx’s song “Chris Barnes is a pussy” at Chris and he blocked me. Fun times.
Chris Barnes is the best metal vocalist of all time if you ask Chris Barnes.
Just got done blasting this one boys and been a Six Feet Under fan for awhile now and this is brutal! 4 of 5 from me!🤘
That review was really fun to watch! Greetings from Germany.
Its sad how he has fall this low considering I LOVE first 4 Cannibal albums which I prefer over anything than Corpsegrinder...
I just went back and listened too this album with the upcoming release and it's not as bad as I remembered sure it's far from perfect but a lot of it was pretty good
Six feet under is one of the bands of all time! =)
If I am feeling depressed I come back to this masterpiece of a review. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Chris Barnes 🤘🏾😂
Man, I loved every album except Bringer of Blood and True Carnage, never cared about Graveyard Classics, but the vocals on this here have to be a joke. The Undead/Unborn stuff onwards was such a nice return to form and even had some CC riffs...just to end up with this
I love your reviews...you guys made me laugh so much with this 1
This review could never be watched enough
This album is golden for its comedic content but not much else. Oh how far the mighty has fallen
I maybe thought about writing a comment more than i should have but i did enjoy this record, despite some agreement with general sentiment
How is anyone surprised? SFU hasn't had anything even vaguely respectable since Haunted.....and that was mostly if you wanted a CC/Obituary supergroup
You know the horror films that are unintentionally so bad they're great as comedy? That was this record 10/10
The Haunted Album and Warpath are badass but haven't listened to any other stuff
Necrotic Nick- Haunted is pretty decent. Pretty much feels like an Obituary album with Barnes on vocals.
@@thrallsofmetal have u guys ever listened to their 2012 album "Undead"?..one of their better later records, Chris's voice is too awful and the music is good death metal..just a suggestion
@@demonintheflesh88 I disagree, the vocals on Undead were his best in years.
@@spongebitchbobface oh wow I never realized that I miss typed because I actually do quite enjoy his voice on Undead lol...I meant to type "his voice ISN'T too awful." 🤣🤘🏻🤘🏻💀
@@thrallsofmetal Exactly!!!
Chris / SFU are legendary 🤟🏼
I was very disappointed about that last record and remember My one and only Warpath gig back then - anyway I believe in the next album!
Thanks for your review guys 🙏🏼
