You are right that Snake and Sverkel aren't related. Snake was calling Sverkel "gramps" in a way that was like calling him "old man", not as a title for a family member. Einar also began calling him "gramps" before he found out his name. Though, Einar wasn't sleeping in Sverkel's house. It's easy to assume Snake camping out in Sverkel's house would bring familial ties. I think it's a common quirk of Japanese to call older men "gigi"(gramps) even if you're not related.
Yeah I thought they made Thorfinn’s skin darker because he started farming, but it turns out Thorfinn went completely back to white skin after episode 6. It’s so weird. Maybe they just wanted to make him look more listless in episode 1-4. 😂

I hope you're enjoying the pacing of this season. You might have seen its slower paced but in no way to me if felt less enjoyable than first season.
It's always so odd to me how much lighter Thorfinn's skin is from this episode onward, in contrast to his skin up until now.
