I recently logged in, due to a name wiping coming on old, not played characters. I had no intention of actually playing. An hour later, I was resubbed, playing a new character. It's still a good game.
fascinating. got the same email. considered it. waiting for a new pc, cant really install anything atm,, so i may check it out once set up this weekend.
@@DonaldTurner Yeah, I was kind of surprised I got back in. Nobody makes quality MMOs anymore. It's more of a solo game these days, which is okay for my play style these days.
@@Abjurist I did last time I played, then they all merged into the Zakuul storyline, merged all companions to be a cosmetic skin, and I stopped caring.
This. This is exactly what turned me away from the game, as soon as individual class stories were funneled into two factions and two alignments per faction, your entire class fantasy slowly withered away.
The game messed up like two months or so AFTER initial launch when the damage and stuff got nerved. Made it basically easy and no need for a companion. No matter what class you choose it's always the basic overall end game with the exception of the actual class story are different but the over all story was always the same. I want an actual true MMO like Galaxies was
It's amazing how many of these basically dead old MMOs are still on life support. I feel like they could take SWTOR's class story missions and spin them off into a single-player mode where you just go directly from one mission to the next without the levelling/grind in between. Those were the only good parts of the game anyhow.
I'm happy to see the game get some attention. I've been on an 8-9 year hiatus from the game, and just picked it back up to play with my son. The 12k cartel coins from keeping MFA active on my account all this time was a nice surprise. This update gives me some confidence that the time we're spending in the game won't be 'wasted' by the game shutting down any time soon.
Personally, I feel like SWTOR's art style is flawless, underappreciated, and misunderstood. People overlook clear-visioned stylism and claim it's "outdated", but I feel like stylized aesthetics actually age way better than realistic ones. I thought SWTOR's graphics/art was perfect as is, but think that Broadsword did a nice job touching some things up.
Huttball is one of the most fun battlegrounds I've ever played in any MMO. This game was so good when it launched. I loved it. If they'd just make a new starwars mmo. This one was a gem.
Environmental updates look solid enough, but not sure it changes the overall feel of the game until I see it first hand. Character models look lackluster so far, need a re-model, not a touch up.
I think the graphics update looks fine. Maybe they could have held off of the character models for a bit, but the environmental graphics like a good bit of cleaning up. Maybe they should do the same with daoc and give us that classic server we have all been asking for and were promising up until recently.
always loved swtor. went back for around 6 mos in early 2020. had a few jobs to complete legendary etc. was fun. then drama in my guild, and friend suggested ff14, been there ever since. but i would definitely be open to a return to swtor, if there was a reason. thanks flynn =)
I really enjoyed doing the Dynamic Encounters on PTS. I did them when they first came out and completed what they said was needed for the title/rewards. Went back later and they now have MORE achievements to get. The encounter rewards were tech frags and conquest comms. I did take a lower level character (55) over to see if they were doable and they were. I hope they add other rewards for the lower folks else they may get skipped.
SWTOR has become my new WoW in terms of an interim MMO. I would always go back to WoW to play for a few months in between game releases/life. I now do that with SWTOR and gradually chip away at all of the class stories and dip my toes into the raids/pvp. The Starforge server still has incredibly active communities that run Story Mode operations daily. Guilds are still recruiting for higher-tier Operations as well. The biggest thing I love about returning to this game is I never feel like I've lost progress. The 340ish gear I had last year is marginally close to bis even a year later; they just made it easier to achieve for others
Part 1:Graphic updates.. Good Stuff. Part 2: Story stuff. I can wait, in the mean time there is the ongoing one piece at a time story expansion is..... frustrating. Part 3: Sworista FTW! Closing note: High end character stories at the level cap!
Thanks to the devs for all of the work, but i wish we could have the choice in the settings between the two graphics style.. Because i personally REALLY LOVE the Clone Wars graphics and designs that we have right now. It'll break my heart if they don't give us an option between the two like other games.. (WoW, for ex) 😞🙏 But I completely understand that people like the new style and it's cool, i just wish and pray that they're going to let us choose what we want in the settings. + in addition, it can help people who don't have a really good PC to still run and play the game. In a way it's a preservation of art, if they do this they can do whatever they want with the new graphics without limiting themselves. Because it seems like they want to remaster it. (It is a win win and i think it wouldn't be that hard to implement 🤔)
I been subbed since launch with a couple breaks in there over the years. I think what the team have accomplished given the tight budget this game has now is pretty impressive. Really looking forward to dynamic encounters and the visual improvements have been fantastic. One thing I wish they would do is open up the objectives for Galactic Seasons a little more so I have more options on how I want to complete it. It will be interesting to see what happens after this whole mando storyline gets wrapped up, I hope we get a big bad sith or something force related at least.
Who would have thought that taking the game away from Electronic fArts would actually make it better. Interesting isn't it? I can't believe the game has been abused like this. A SWTOR 2 would be incredible. I still play it from time to time because its pretty much the only Sci-fi MMO that is character based and not ship based. You have Star Trek Online but... yeah.
The graphics update looks good. Great in fact. Nothing too shocking. I had been a "whale" I guess, about 6 years ago or so. SW lost me when they began removing armors I had bought or earned or invalidated all the end-game effort with a new update. Maybe their changes will continue in a better vein. Story? I agree. Revan was stellar. The later ones aggravated me. Hopeful.
I really like Swtor for what it truly is, Single Player with Multiplayer-Elements. Since its release i play it for some Weeks/finish a major story (Like classes/expansions), take a break for some months/a year and repeat. Doing the actuall MMO part feels so out of place sometimes.

I dont play this game, but I have a natural bias to upgrading graphics but this they seem to of done perfectly. I feel they did a great job in keeping it original
I dont understand how this is being pushed as a current update, those statues on Korriban have been updated for about 12 months now, so have some of the zones.. I noticed this when doing the Legendary run on the new Oceanic Server when it was released this time last year...

@01talima at first, everyone liked them, but after a while, people like me started noticing the animations for the new model were worse than the old model. I won't play with new models turned on because the animations for them bother me. They do look nice. I will give them that.

They need to do a fresh like progression servers. That's pretty much the only thing that would bring me back. I like the graphics update, been asking for that past 20years for Everquest.
Am I the only one who want the classic difficulty back ? I mean you can solo H2 Quests with ease. I truly want the old difficulty Bach where you needed all quests so don’t be under levels. Where gear really matters. And my favorite Swtor streamer still is Swtorista
they are not enough unfortunately. with games like runescape and classic wow its hard to grind out nothing after you finish your desired storylines, and during those storylines they need to find ways to make players transcend the planets more because it feels very alone. also the lack of gear progression due to everything being transmog is annoying. they should just totally revamp the game without destroying the current world because the starwars ip is awesome, especially old republic.
How about finishing the longest most drug out story exspansion. Or maybe put an end to the 5 year life span of grade 11 matts and give us grade 12. Maybe do SOMETHING about crafting to make ot actually worth sonething again. Or maybe they could actually look into why some peoples nim titles and clears were ereased earlier this year without a peep from the devs. ..
I would like upgrades, so that it will be "modern" the next 5 years or so. In similar fashion as what FF14 just did. I would however like some more side games just like in KOTOR.
I think they should update the graphics while keeping the original designs and charm. I'll use WoW As an example, allthough I don't think it's the greatest example. The graphics have been updated a lot since vanilla, but it still looks like WoW to an extent.
At release? I don't think they had those at release because it was sub based back then. But if you mean when they swapped to f2p I imagine those are unchanged
i played swtor for years when it launched and i enjoyed it like i did with WoW and Guildwars. I gotta say though, the game needs to be updated for more action oriented combat and give up on the old mmo hotbar setup. if they could some how look at neverwinter's combat (which is sadly the only good thing about neverwinter) they could easily pull larger audiences. it could really benefit from a fable 1 or dragon age inquisition oriented combat system. Just imagine a star wars game as massive as swtor but with good combat. what a waste.
I played it when it came out, was real good ..Did even do some raiding. It got ruined when they moved to free to play, with cash shops and soloable flashpoints, and made the game easier. When i play an MMO i want it to be a challenge from level1, not be rushed through most of the "old" content - Stop trivializing "old" content in old MMO's, it ruins the gaming experience.
omg you just had to bring up the EQ character model and animation "upgrade"!! that had to be the worst update to an mmo's graphics EVER. Hell i still played with the old models
Ive only played about 60stara few years back, but my main issue is how dated everything felt. I think this is a good step, but i hope they work on modernizing some systems next.
I played with a sub from 2013 to 2018. I redownloaded the game last night after several years away. So much has changed. FtP is terrible and I cannot justify paying the same sub price I was paying a decade ago. At $5/mo I would come back but not for what they're asking.
I loved this game. I even downloaded it today to reserve my names. I just don't see myself going back. I might log in and wonder around and look at the new graphics but I won't stay and level a character. The community was so toxic when I played, I literally quit because of the community. it was worse than wow by far.
The gameplay is what made me stop playing, so unless they change that and I dont think I will be trying it again. I love the idea of the graphics update but the character models still look terrible and its not because they are stylized
I kinda liked old Korriban statues more. They looked like slaves carved them with primitive tools, now they look like pieces of art made by artisans and that doesn't fit Sith's brutalism architecture style and lore. I understand overall update and I'm happy of it but with artistic side of it they went somewhat too far.
Changing the combat in MMOs has never gone down well. Runescape and SWG would like a word about that. (though would be interested if you have a different example of when it did)
maybe if you keep saying its dying or on its way out. Eventually it will come true. I beta tested this back in 2012 and a year after launch people started saying as soon as it went free to play, it was dying and in 6 months it would be dead. 12 years later. i guess its still dying or dead. WTF ever.... lol
Dying/Dead means no longer big enough to receive any meaningful updates. Just, at best, cash grab updates. Which is what they did. SWTOR was almost DoA. It had a chance to be great, but honestly just failed bc it relied on Bioware too much. Too much a singleplayer mass effect game and not enough a Star Wars experience. Too singleplayer.
It never wanted to be galaxies and galaxies killed itself before swtor came around imo. They tried to chase wow for years and obliterated what made swg special time and again chasing players who'd left.
@Redbeardflynn never tried to be yes...but had the potential to go truly open world and better. No stinking ships on rails. You could literally be anything you wanted in galaxy and weren't tied to a set in stone storyline. Actual able to truly rp your characters story. TOR IS TOO scripted and set in stone. It was fun, but thst first patch update 2 months in nerfing the need for a companion really. Companions were actually needed to heal and help complete a boss. After the 2 mo th nerf you could take on a boss in the class stories almost without a companion. It started with an actual challenge and went to overly hand holding and leading
@@Mandalorian_of_Christ Oh you're preaching to the choir here. I would have loved if SWTOR was more like SWG. I still want a *new* swg, even if its not the star wars IP. But that was never going to happen when they brought in a single-player RPG studio to lead an MMO. And sadly, SWG abandoned most of those open tenets long before SWTOR even came around. Especially with the NGE which introduced classes.
@Redbeardflynn Sony kind of went the route of EA and abandoned it sadly. I mean though when they made it so any and everybody cou l d be a Jedi ki d of oversaturated things. Sadly I have a feeling TOR will end up going down and encorporatung the new SW Canon which is sad. TOR BEING the only thing left that was still old EU cause Disney really had no interest in it. The player base in SWTOR isn't big enough to keep Disney interest
@Mandalorian_of_Christ it's definitely past it's prime. I mean the mmo did make 1b. But my bigger hope is this let's broadsword grow. They used to just be the place where mmos go to sit in stasis (uo and daoc) they're still semi under ea though. Somewhat connected but I saw a story recently about how original jedi could permanently die in swg. I'd totally forgotten about that
It still looks like a 2015 game to me. Their graphic style was nothing special to begin with. They would need to make it look as good as Fallen Order to bring me back after so much time. Disney leaving such a nasty stink on the IP will also not help them.
@@Redbeardflynn But it is about to be 2025, and the woke plague upon gaming is on it's way out, so they have to step it up 10 notches. And again, it has connection to Disney and that is a stigma that will be hard to breakaway from or attract old players.
@Eneeki lol ok..."woke games" is such a completely unserious thing. But you do you. Plenty of things to be upset with in games like how theyre overly monetized. How they get rushed out to make as much money as possible. How they fire devs to make stock portfolios look good. None of that is "woke" 😅
@@Redbeardflynn You mean bad PR. You can call it what you will, the name does not matter. No one like a game where you are forced to get lectured about the political BS of the day. Games are for escapism. Woke has nothing to do with it, the problem goes much deeper than some political fad. Disney has actively offended a majority of the fans of the old IP to such a degree that they are now in free fall for a reason, changing that amount of bad PR is going to cost them more than just a few lbs of flesh.
SWTOR isnt even a MMO. It's a singleplayer bioware game where they tacked on multiplayer to try to monetize you forever. It's such baloney. And the combat is so mundane. The rotations and lack of real lightsaber combat is just meh. Even SWG post-CU was waaaaay better.
id love to play star wars as i love the films etc, but i literally HATE the UI being all blue and sci-fi style, it looks horrible, i much prefer just clean and simple neutral WoW style UI, along with that combat mechanics could just use an update to not make it feel so delayed and clunky. until then, il still be on WoW i guess lol but il keep checking in!
...for me this game was never good, ( I played from beta to Hutt expansion, played a bit on f2p model last year ) it was just a wow clone that destroyed a much better game Star Wars Galaxies...these graphics are a waste of time and resources. Need to add new classes, more weapon types, and more companions....why cant we have animal companions? ( looking at creature handler from SWG, and the ranger from wow...yes I know they have paywall animal companions but why is there no actually game mechanic to tame and train animals...the rancor handler is such an icon ) ... this game has always been nothing but a min viable product
Not as smooth tab targeting gameplay like WoW , not horrible either, The story mode and PvP Hutt Ball are cool highlights of SWTOR . It's hard to stay invested too level cap in SWTOR . Only really fun got few friends playing it , this mmorpg wouldn't solo it
Calling it a wow clone is a bit of a stretch. You could play the individual stories for the classes and it was as good as any rpg at the time. It was peak BioWare. If you wanted good pvp or raid/dungeon type content however this was not the game for you.
I really wanted to love this game when it came out but the combat was soooo clunky compared to other MMOs. If its combat and movement was anywhere near WoW I would have never left.
I still love and play this game. In my opinion, the story is so rich, it's worth playing and replaying.

i played swtor for years when it launched and i enjoyed it like i did with WoW and Guildwars.
What? On video pic this rattataki looks better after.
I didn't like anything to do with the Eternal Empire story. It felt like they threw everything Star Wars out with it.
Ive only played about 60stara few years back, but my main issue is how dated everything felt. I think this is a good step, but i hope they work on modernizing some systems next.
What would you change? Last I played they had some lag issues, and even though the UI is very customizable it's *super* cluttered imo.
Can we fix all the little glitches and bugs.
Heh same issues with character models that ppl saw in the FF14 graphics update.
The gameplay is what made me stop playing, so unless they change that and I dont think I will be trying it again. I love the idea of the graphics update but the character models still look terrible and its not because they are stylized
some have passed away 2
Bioware used the money they where given for lecacy of the sith for their other games sad honestly last good story expansion was kofte and kotet
And the spanish translation when?
I kinda liked old Korriban statues more. They looked like slaves carved them with primitive tools, now they look like pieces of art made by artisans and that doesn't fit Sith's brutalism architecture style and lore. I understand overall update and I'm happy of it but with artistic side of it they went somewhat too far.
Ah interesting! That's something I never would have even considered tbh. It does go to show how delicate graphics updates can be in MMOs.
@@Redbeardflynn Art team cleary were inspired by depiction of Mortis and Jedha statues and how Exegol looks like.
They should provide us with better-looking faces and bodies, not that crap we see on the PTS.
engine update pls engine update pls engine update pls engine update pls
looks good
Give me a teras kasi/echani class!!!!
Nowhere near enough. They need to make more improvements and bring it to real action instead of tab target
Best open world "MMO" WAS Galaxies. SWTOR was a failed test...and had so much potential
I'd totally forgotten about that
It annoys me that there’s a group obsessed with hating luclin models. I find them vastly superior and won’t play without them.
It still looks like a 2015 game to me. Their graphic style was nothing special to begin with. They would need to make it look as good as Fallen Order to bring me back after so much time. Disney leaving such a nasty stink on the IP will also not help them.
2015 would be an upgrade. The game launched in 2011.
Not even new ops
Ugh.... FINE! I'm reinstalling the game... Stop nagging me...
haha!
This game is too goofy looking for me. it looks more goofy than a cartoon with a target age for 4 year olds
👍✌
The character models are still terrible. I just can't play it... they look so bad
id love to play star wars as i love the films etc, but i literally HATE the UI being all blue and sci-fi style, it looks horrible, i much prefer just clean and simple neutral WoW style UI,
along with that combat mechanics could just use an update to not make it feel so delayed and clunky.
until then, il still be on WoW i guess lol but il keep checking in!
...for me this game was never good, ( I played from beta to Hutt expansion, played a bit on f2p model last year ) it was just a wow clone that destroyed a much better game Star Wars Galaxies...these graphics are a waste of time and resources.
Only really fun got few friends playing it , this mmorpg wouldn't solo it
Star wars galaxies ? Lmfao 😂 that games a big ol piece of trash . Absolutely ass.
Calling it a wow clone is a bit of a stretch. You could play the individual stories for the classes and it was as good as any rpg at the time. It was peak BioWare. If you wanted good pvp or raid/dungeon type content however this was not the game for you.
I wouldnt play WoW to save my life the combat in that game is boring. SWOTR has much better gsmeplay.
Wow sucks
I really wanted to love this game when it came out but the combat was soooo clunky compared to other MMOs. If its combat and movement was anywhere near WoW I would have never left.
@swtorista best swtor streamer imo!
