    Incredibly cool how much louder and more violent the smaller vents seem in comparison to the large ones

    • @carolynallisee2463
      @carolynallisee2463 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The smaller vents, because they're constricted, means gas and pyroclasts are forced out more violently- less space to get out so a jet or stream is formed. It's a bit like having a squeezy bottle of golden syrup or honey: if you remove the top altogether and press the sides so the bottle, it comes out in a great glob. Just flip the cap open so the nozzle is open but not removed, and squeeze the sides with the same force, and you'll get a fountain like jet of stickiness. There's a good chance that all the vents are spitting out the same amount of material: with the smaller vents the results are longer lasting outbursts with intense jets or fountains.

    • @Arthion
      @Arthion 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@carolynallisee2463 That was what I figured the most likely explanation would be after thinking about it for a while, thank you for confirming my hunch. Quite the fascinating sound and visual spectacle those concentrated jets of gas and molten rock produce

    • @carolynallisee2463
      @carolynallisee2463 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Indeed. It certainly is a spectacle. I'm glad I found this channel, because Stromboli, despite being so continuously active, is seldom talked about. It's called the lighthouse o the Mediterranean for good reason, and I think that's half the problem. I knew from a few other documentaries that it had more than one vent, but I didn't know it had six!

    • @Tstorms
      @Tstorms 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carolynallisee2463 The jet of gas from the smaller vent eruption even seems to be supersonic! The sound has the crackle of Mach wave radiation, just like an afterburning jet engine

    It's kind of interesting how each of the vents seems to have its own "personality". Some of the vents throw large, wide ejections like you might see at Krakatau, while others seem to erupt almost like a blowtorch.

    Hasn't Stromboli been in continuous eruption for two thousand years? Lots of cruise ship on the way from Naples to Messina make a point of going right by it. it looks great a night, just puffs of smoke in the daytime.There are three villages on the island.

  • @juliemeredithjones5819

    Random story, we went to go see Stromboli on the day that it erupted and we met a guy who’s friends was on the boat running away from the flow and he said the guy was ok(no names mentioned) and I was watching live cam all night, and you could see it from vulcano(one of the neighbouring island. Stromboli really is a sight to see at night

  • @wayneparkinson4558

    Stromboli has been erupting for so long that the locals are obviously used to it, but it must have shuck them up on the 3rd july 2019. I noticed the increased activity over the last 3 months it was only a moderate irruption however it could have been much much worse.I bet getting building insurance must be a problem on that island ? If i was living there i would want to be up at the top watching the awesome display and probably would have perished with those unlucky people who were caught up in the incident wanting to see the wonderful display of nature. my condolences to the families

    There is a 86 year old man in Switzerland who claims to have contacts with people from another world who are here to provide the key to our survival. One of the contact dating from 1948 about Stromboli reads: But also in the south of Europe, the all-transforming consequences will be enormous when the volcanoes of Mount Etna, Vesuvius and Stromboli as well as the submarine largest active volcano of Europe, Mount Marsili off the coast of Italy, together with about two dozen further submarine volcanoes in the Mediterranean, begin to erupt.
