    Thank you for sharing this one. I'm from Philadelphia and what a treat to see Te Anau again, brought me right back. I did some stargazing and astro in April from Eglinton Flats... no lights, but probably the best stars I'll see for a long, long time 🤩

      Awesome mate! Yeah such clear night skies here. I’ve gazed at the star many nights in that valley ☺️🙏🏻

    I didn't catch this when you posted the show... I recently shot aurora here in North Dakota for the first time (10-12-2024) with both night filters and without. It was amazing to see how much color I picked up and I was tickled to death that my comps over a little lake with an abandoned farmhouse beyond worked out well but, yesss, there is a LOT of fine-tuning to do in post. I've seen others produce far cleaner images than my first results with my Oly, so I'll be playing on both ends of the spectrum to clean up noise. Low light has always been the occasion when I yearn to change systems but in this day and age, the gap has narrowed too much to warrant such a change (when well-played, of course, both the initial exposures and the work in post in PS and Topaz). All that aside, it was well-worth freezing temperatures here, as well, plus the 40-mile drive north to my composition at 3am! :)

      Epic mate, so great you got to see and capture it. It was special here on that night too although I didn’t bother trying to film anything. I just captured a simple seascape scene as all our mountain regions were too cloudy. So great to witness it nonetheless.

    Hey William-I'm really enjoying all your videos here on TH-cam. That night back in May was so special with the Aurora. I was lucky enough to see and photograph a spectacular display here in Oregon, USA. Hope to see another one soon.

    Ahh nice one - thanks for sharing your trip out and your images. I have decided that next time there is a good chance of an aurora to stuff work and get somewhere to shoot it!!!

      My first thought too! Enjoyable video as always even if you have gone over to the dark side. But then I suppose the dark side is where you need a tripod.

    That first beam you showed is STEVE! Seen him during both the may show as well as this past week. This year has been crazy good for the aurora, I feel so incredibly lucky every time I get to see them.

      Yeah I've seen Steve in Iceland and Canada. So stoked to now have seen him here too! What a blessing hey, it's so special. Glad you've experienced it too :)

    Stunning images! I used to live in northern Minnesota and I would get up at 2AM, 3AM to drive out of town and see the aurora. It was crazy cold. I was feeling your pain while watching this but it's really worth it.

    Good work, not a lot of people would have had the fore sight to do an exposure of the foreground for some of those photos, although it must be exciting when such an event happens in front of your eyes.

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks mate. Yeah, not my first rodeo so it's just second nature now but when people start out they are most incline to tilt the camera to the sky and neglect subject matter altogether haha.

    Absolutely beautiful! I just discovered you and I really like your videos. I just moved out of Alaska and used to photograph the auroras in my backyard. I was out shooting and had a moose walk right up behind me and he followed me home. I couldn’t venture far on my own after that. I miss it so much. It’s nice to see it from New Zealand. Also, I haven’t used photoshop just Lightroom classic, now I’m going to try editing some of them differently thanks to you. Anyway hello from Seattle Washington.

    Yes it was amazing alright back in may. I took my canon 6 D out to birding’s flat even tho it’s considered an old camera now But still awesome camera for Astro and night stuff. Drove out to location and realise I didn’t put my battery in the camera 😂😂 so the good ol iPhone 15 did the trick. And I see the same beautiful beams of light . Wasn’t even properly dark and they started. I was in a nice little hidden spot overlooking the lake. Bt I think half of Christchurch drove out to Birdings that
    night.

    Hi Will. What Aurora forecasting app do you find best?

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They’re all the same really, the forecasting for space weather isn’t extremely accurate. The one I use is Aurora Alerts. Watch the other video I have to see what to look for.
