  • Getting out of the city to do some astrophotography really heals the soul! And what better place to go than near Great Basin National Park! I got the pleasure of going for a few nights and experiencing the breathtaking night sky. This ranks a Bortle 1 on the scale and is hands down the darkest skies I’ve seen so far. Enjoy as I take you through a night of imaging targets and using this dark sky to my advantage. We’ve captured the Witch’s Head Nebula in Orion, the Ghost Nebula in Cepheus, and got a quick 30 minutes on M78 before the sunlight started coming. Enjoy!

As child, I lived on a farm in Texas far from the nearest anything. At night I could see the Milky Way dividing the sky and thousands of stars.
I am now 72, live in a Bortle 5 town with lots of local pollution and I have cataracts. At night I can see 4 stars. Sad.
