Shafquat has a beautiful voice, but somehow didn’t try or got the placing he should have. During my visit to Pakistan a couple of years ago, we got a chance to listen to him in Gymkhana, Lahore. We reached at 7.00 pm in December( I believe) the show was to start at 8.00 pm. Out comes some lady who sang endlessly for about an hour and a half or more, then comes long awaited, Shafquat, who sang a couple of songs, then handed the mike to various, untrained , amateur, audience, who were rather irritating. To have a few join in and pick up, occasionally and tduring one or two numbers, is kosher, but to have them take over, was definitely, over kill. That is not why, I was there. I went to hear Shafquat. My great grandfather came from Patiala. I had a foto of my mother in the audience in Dacca, where his father and uncle had performed. I thought, perhaps, I’ll get a chance to mingle. But unfortunately, it was getting too late and outdoors in freezing cold temperatures, we finally left. I was sad and dissatisfied and disappointed. This guy with an amazing voice, doesn’t know how to sell himself. For a talent, such as his, sky was the limit. I hope that he can do better and take advantage of his talent. Best of luck!!If ever, I see him again, I’ll make it a point to tell him. My sermon is far too long. Sorry guys!!
