  • Lesson on Confidence
It was my first day learning Math with Mr. Peter. As soon as class started, he gave us a beginning-of-year test. The whole class was surprised when he handed out three different sets of questions and said:
"The first set has both easy and challenging questions. If you complete all of them, you’ll get a full score of 10. The second set contains relatively easy questions, with a maximum score of 8. The third set is very easy, with a maximum score of 6. You’re free to choose which set to do."
We only had 15 minutes to finish the test, so I picked the second set to be safe. Not just me, but my classmates did the same-nobody chose the first set. A week later, Mr. Peter returned our test results. We were even more surprised to find out that whoever chose a set received the total score of that set, regardless of how many answers they got right or wrong.
The class president asked Mr. Peter, “Sir, why is it like that?”
Smiling, but with a serious tone, Mr. Peter replied, “With this test, I wanted to challenge your confidence. Each of you dreams of scoring a perfect 10, but very few are willing to take the risks and face the challenge to turn that dream into reality.”
Mr. Peter’s unusual test taught us an invaluable lesson: "There are things that, at first glance, seem too difficult, leading us to retreat at the very first step. But if we aren’t confident enough to face challenges, we’ll never discover our true potential, nor will we reach the peak of success. Overcoming our inner barriers allows us to go further. To succeed in any endeavor, thorough preparation is key. Once well-prepared, what remains is our mindset. When we’ve done everything we can, leave the outcome to destiny. Stay confident, calm, and in control with what we have, no matter what happens."
Thank you sincerely to all who have listened.
