- A giant concrete-like cuboid seemingly defies gravity as it tilts and rotates in this installation by Studio Drift, at The Armory Show in New York this week.
The site-specific Drifter artwork comprises a cuboid measuring four by two by two metres, which appears to be suspended in midair within a three-sided white enclosure.
Patterned to look like heavy stone or concrete, the volume shifts its position by rotating and tilting - sometimes simultaneously - at different speeds.
"Drifter creates a sense of disbelief and displacement, creating tension between humanity versus nature and chaos versus order," said Studio Drift, founded by Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta.

How? so is it an incredibly light box with monofilament attached controlled by motors?
thats what I want to know too. I notice upto 6 holes on the walls near the ceiling. Possibly apertures for the filaments to pass through.. ?
As of right now, the studio's sculptures are exhibited in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. I don't know if this particular sculpture is, but if it is, you most certainly can see it for yourself. The exhibition lasts until August 26th 2018.
Okay I think it is there
@@Carrera718 Currently this is installed in Amos Rex, Finland. I think it's there for the spring exhibit. It's not monofilament though - it rotates on every axis freely so the filament would get tied up. ;) The whole point seems to be the mystery about how it's done. ;)
@@Auschwitch Well, its mystery i came here to look for info :)
