I feel so bad for the losing team...many commiserations to you all. Mr. Salamanca Camacho was a delight to watch. Is there anything he doesn't know?? The rest of the team were no slouches either. Fantastic result - good luck moving ahead in the competition!! Thank you CP!!!
Their knowledge of poetry as a team has been questionable - they were poor on Dickinson last time and on Plath this time - but otherwise almost without fault
From the moment I saw the match up without a doubt I knew which team would take it but I didn’t expect the gap to be that Huge. My goodness that was an amazing sight to see
Much credit to Amol here. For several years, Jeremy Paxman's atrocious pronunciation of Japanese added unnecessary difficulty to questions. Other than a very slight mispronunciation of Luffy (it's pronounced loo-fee in English), he was correct and crystal clear. Well done!!
@ It would be better if the maiden aunts of TH-cam didn't remove anything that might offend Rajan's self-satisfied faux-majesté. As for a hug, no thanks. Not from you.
Hello again! This match started competitively...then the winning team just took off. They got on form, and stayed there. Everyone contributed, and everyone of them have great buzzer speed. There was only once when they were challenged on the buzzer that I remember, and they won that easily. It was readily apparent how much quicker they were at working out the answer and buzzing in. They also did very well converting bonuses. The losing team was just severely out-matched. I suspect that will be the case for many of the winning team's opponents, going forward. They look unstoppable. My best to both teams, and to each individual.
Wow, Imperial just ran away with it. The questions were perfect for them and superb buzzer reactions. Brilliant score and what an exciting triumph! Bravura. Commiserations Wadham.
I'm going to call my new cat - he's very handsome and I already know he's a genius - Salamanco Camacho. So several times a day, I can call out "Salamanco Camacho!"
AMAZING performance from lmperial!! Apart from being so likeable, their speed on the buzzer and range of knowledge was wonderful to see! Spry is a fine captain and the team worked so well together. Sorry that Wadham never really got off the starting blocks, but they took their defeat with good grace. Thanks CP! 😊
He is fantastic for sure. The only Caveat I would add is that if he were to have an off day Imperial might struggle a bit. Not too much since the team is well balanced But I remember Izzadust from last year being great throughout only to be outgunned by fast buzzing on starter questions by the winning team in the grand final.
Isn't it great how the Spanish use both their father's and mother's surnames, so egalitarian. Then you realise you have to spit out 7 syllables every time you refer to the guy, d'oh.
Thanks from Allen, Texas. I appreciate the effort, CosmicPumpkin. Wadham was shat upon from a great height 😆 I'm kinda anti-Oxbridge as they get to field numerous teams, which I think is unfair, so I took particular delight in this.
~~~SPOILERS~~~ I was really surprised that Wadham - Oxford got _none_ of the bonus questions in “psychotherapy” 3:24, which would be covered in any introductory psychology course, even though one of the team members is reading experimental psychology (admittedly, a different branch of the field but still). At least, the team managed to not end up with a score of zero, which is, well, something, and remained engaged throughout. Imperial-which is very often a juggernaut-was stellar. Imperial’s Jaime Salamanca Camacho, who was the standout in the team’s earlier match against Manchester, continued to be impressive, although, certainly, his teammates were no slouches. Congratulations to the winning team and heartfelt condolences to the other team.
Ouch! Well at least Wadham saved themselves from being the team with the lowest score ever on the show. Sussex holds the record with10 points in the first round. Not that they were bad of course, just outclassed.
@@2eleven48 How have you been on TH-cam for 13 years and not known that it is common to express astonishment in written comments using all capital letters?
Feel like this match wasnt really representative of Wadham, they had plenty of great players on their team (just came back from watching the quizbowl match w Bellamy) it just sucks they weren't quicker on the buzzer. Great performance by imperial tho
There used to be a phrase, to mean sort of 'don't you know, isn't it obvious?', as follows; "Does the bear shit in the woods? Is the Pope a Catholic?" Seems like you have conflated them.
Imperial's score is the joint 11th highest ever in the Paxo/Rajan era. And the 320-point margin of victory is the joint 3rd highest ever recorded (again in the Paxo/Rajan era - I can do nothing when getting comparisons with the Bambi time of the show, although I think the points scoring system back then was so substantially different that any comparisons with now would be unfair).
@@gabsymalone6307 I'm guessing this Rajan era will start packing out these score tables, he just seems to get through more questions than Paxo ever did.
Does anyone else think the cliffhanger-Hardy question is suspect? I think the source for the question setter and the Imperial player who buzzed at jet speed was a New Yorker article from just about when these episodes would've been taped (early Spring?), but, I find that Hardy hypothesis very, very suspect. Seems to be a coincidence than the start of a trend. No serious dictionary like the OED gives that reference. Refers to American slang as the source. But, if it was a genuine Hardyism, I think the professional lexicographers at OED or the others would've chased it down in a much earlier edition of the OED. I have seen such dictionary bloopers on UC... even repeated in their printed books - meaning, went through a second round of proofreading.
@@dan7259 Really? Could you give an earliest date when you heard of it? Like in the last 5-10 years? Is it possible that it's a meme that caught on, if recent enough? I just can't believe that any major lexicon (unabridged of course) would miss a Hardyism if that was the source. They'd be proud to state it. Whereas I do know howlers from the quiz circuits (and UC too) on apocryphal etymologies. I only heard of the Hardy connection from the New Yorker article and thought they just played up a coincidence. Sure enough wikis online reproduced it. There is also the question of the era in time. Back then, the way new words were coined differed on the two sides of the Atlantic. In the US, hyphenated words, neologisms and loan-words were more common. In the UK they relied more on turn of phrase and expressions to convey the same sense. The cliff-hanger expression would have been redundant. Anyhow, the 60 year gap of non-usage is not explained in the New Yorker.
The student studying experimental psychology can't even get the questions on psychology founding fathers! Just shows what a dumb subject psychology is...
Imperial, please be nice to your challengers next time 😂 . A win with such a margin is humiliating and we'll start opting for admission in only Imperial College 😊
I was pleased with this result. Wadham turned me down in 1963.
Early 20th century British regional politics is his weakness
Their knowledge of poetry as a team has been questionable - they were poor on Dickinson last time and on Plath this time - but otherwise almost without fault
Sushi... He was correctly overridden by Elkouby. But yeah, Salamca Camacho was brilliant.
@ So not unlike the rest of us then?
Well at least I knew King Crimson I guess..... but that was incredibly impressive!!
Unusually, Cosmic Pumpkin seems to have messed up this week. I wanted an episode of University Challenge, not a half-hour meat grinder demonstration.
Salamanca Camacho is fire on the buzzer
If he brushes up on poetry he will be unstoppable!
Imperial was on fire! Great match. Thanks again for the prompt uploads.
6:43 that was a crisp 'Polyp'.
About halfway through I thought there was a real chance Wadham would be kept to 0! Incredible.
Salamanca Camacho is what tech bros imagine ChatGPT will be in its final form
Goodness gracious, that was fire, well done Imperial!
Imperial were brilliant. They knew almost EVERYTHING. Well done. And many thanks for posting.
Oh lordy. What a bloodbath. Superb quizzing from Salamanca Camacho in particular!
We have found our series champions
I disagree, Bristol might beat them, Wadham was just a really weak team.
5:34 "which genre of Japanese erotic art"
I'm thinking of something, but I'm wrong.
This is a perfect joke
I don't get this, but I'd like to
I can't remember such a lopsided contest even including round 1. Ouch! That really hurts.
Brilliant score and what an exciting triumph!
Bravura.
What a terrific win ! The score difference is almost unbelievable. Congrats to the winners. Thank you CP.
At least I got the bonus questions about sushi and anime this time. XD
20:51 wow those scores... i'm not even finished watching but this is amazing.
Imperial are now on a 14 game winning streak - extending their record for the longest streak in UC history
Salamanca Camacho what a guy he's so smart 🤓
Thank you Worden for being easy on the eyes. Thank you Salamanca Camacho for giving us vibes similar to Imperial's Max Zheng this season
he gives more vibes similar to justin Lee because Salamanca is a more allround player like Lee, Zheng too was a beast though
Brutal
Imperial were well, Imperious
(First time I've seen either team play)
Well, the Imperial team was possibly even more impressive in this round than in round one! Going to be tough to beat!
Wow……….who needs Chatgpt ?
Final: Bristol vs. Imperial (or UCL)
MARK MY WORDS!!!
Until which stage do you think ''Darwin - Whitaker!'' will stay in this competition?
I thought Bristol were a great team and they are but Imperial will strike fear into any title aspirants heart.
Agreed. I thought Bristol were the favourites after round 1, but this performance was just incredbile. Imperial are definitely the team to beat
They have at least one Achilles heel. Music. If they get a music round at the wrong time, against a tough team, they won't win.
We may see Imperial in the Final and Bristol in the Semi at least.
Imperial vs Bristol :)
Imperial v OU next?
