I was fortunate to attend Bruce's concerts 3 times and that time was always magical for me. Not only his musical talent, but also his personality are a gift from fate for me. Thank you for this interview. I wish Bruce that music brings joy to him and his listeners and that he has the courage to always be himself regardless of expectations. We will always look forward to Bruce with an open heart, even if he swaps music for karting or other activities.😉
It's easy to understand why Bruce was the winner. He's a talented well rounded guy with a significant repertoire. If the Chopin competition included improvisation the outcome may have been different. Chopin was a primarily and improviser who eventually wrote down his improvisations with a certain amount of difficulty. It's too bad that some of the most formidable competitors are suppressed by the competition's format. What Bruces says about listening to your own playing is extremely important.
I listen to every performance from the beginning to the end. As soon as I heard Bruce in the Scherzo in E major, I knew I was witnessing history. He is phenomenal!
Thank you for taking the responsible route of performer as leader. Your comments are inspiring and informative. As a world leader in the arts, focus on your fans through language: Mandarin, French, and English. You do not have to win them. They are already yours, but being accessible through interviews like this is admired.
Bruce Liu is very engaging. Does he have a slight French-Canadian accent? _Edit:_ Apparently so. French is his first language. English is his third, after Mandarin.
Competitions are partly like a horse race 😆 but mostly, it is about sharing music vision and listening to other performers to give yourself a perspective. Its like having a supertask at hand, that makes you discover more about yourself and fill in with more insight and inspiration. But it can be a very tough experience if it becomes a race
Bravo, Maestro Liu. You were the clear winner in every round!
Bruce Liu is a glorious pianist and I hope to one day be able to see and hear him perform live. I wish him a great career ahead. 👍
