Thanks fazout for posting this historic moment. The Queen is paying tribute to the Grand Dame Marian Anderson. Missed this Kennedy Center Honors. The Queen would later be inducted, becoming the youngest person to receive the Honor.
@@sirblack1619 Don't be, she really PUSHED here & didn't let up & her voice was in that sweet spot at this time but her lives weren't that great after 1981.
I understand! And I agree. Not judging her, but Aretha drank like a fish, smoked like a chimney and ate like a garbage disposal and her voice suffered for it over the years.
This must have been a tribute concert for Marian Anderson. She is shown at the end of the video applauding in the balcony. "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" was one of her famous recordings, and she performed the song often in recital. Check out her performance on youtube of "Deep River"!
If only she would have stopped smoking right at this time period of this performance, just maybe she would have. Even though she stopped smoking in the early 90's it caught up to her health years later.
@@faznout , Yeah I think by the 90`s she had already been smoking about 30 years but had she stopped smoking in the 1970`s maybe she would not have developed cancer. I think her brother Cecil was a heavy smoker and I remember he died of cancer .Wow, just thinking back, I believe all the Franklin children died of some type of cancer. That`s a shame.
Annick Meyer try Marian Anderson Kennedy Center Honors 1976 or 1978; Aretha Franklin Kennedy Center Honors Performances of Aretha Franklin 's tribute to Marian Anderson. I'm going to look too.
No screaming, you understand every word and that voice , THE GOAT OF ALL TIMES
that G5 on the end...untouchable. Thank you, Queen. Im pretty sure Mrs Anderson was impressed.
Aretha Franklin is the undisputed Queen of Soul, hands down!!
The Undisputed, Eternal Queen of Soul.
Absolutely fantastic. Brilliant! Thank you for sharing this.
HE got the world in HIS hand!! Alleluia!! God is great!!

THANKS for posting such a "rare" gem of Queen Ree! These are songs we cannot purchase and glad to hear.
I will say it AGAIN AND AGAIN. EXCELLENT!
I am surprised since you are usually saying something negative about her.

@@cleopatrajones2024 I noticed the change around 1982.
The Queen is without peer!!!!
She sung this song in 1993 and she actually sounded the same as this clip which is surprising because her voice seems to change ever 10 years.
I love Almighty Fire era ReeRee
At the end , all i could say is Good God Almighty.
This sister right here... OMG ☝👑✊
it was in 1978 - the first year of honors
Praise HIM, Ree!!!!
Marian died aged 96 in 1993, this is her Kennedy Centre Honour show, R.I.P Marian Anderson.
This is 77 or 78
Marian Anderson
This had to be between 1980-1981 I remember that hairstyle from those years
77
This was 78 after she married Glynn.
totally awesome!!!! that voice!!! oh my gosh!!!:)
What a Fabulous artist.
Got the whole world him HIS hands.
Irony of irony that the Queen of Soul passes the same day that the King of Rock and Roll passed.
From what I was told it was from 1978. But I could be wrong.
This is the BEST I've seen her. She actually sustained a note at the end from her CHEST.
If you think this is her BEST then u should listen to her 1972 Amazing Grace LP!
I have it and played it over and over but I said SEEN not HEARD.
Point taken but you don't hear with your eyes so I don't know how you can see a person singing? I guess that's what confused me.
LIVE sweetheart. I liked her voice in the late 70's to Jimmy Lee.

Well...
Why couldnt Aretha have lived to be 96 :'(

@@christhomas5761 All of the siblings died due to cancer. Aretha stated that her maternal grandmother passed of cancer as well.
As much as I would have loved that as well. I'd rather have her out of pain and at rest than down here suffering.
This is from 1978.
well...idol, xfactor and so on....this is the real thing ?=
Anyone know how to find a better recording of this?
hello?
he-hello?
