The transition to high D at the last phrase is stunning, and she was able to fall back in key seamlessly. I’ve never heard any other artist do that with this arrangement! It has to be a gift given exclusively to Ms. Battle! ❤
Kathleen sings this spiritual unlike any other singer I've heard! Its extraordinary, and the heavenly soound of the high D at the end is the icing on the cake.
Heard her live in recital with the Minnesota Orchestra in my hometown of Minneapolis. The woman is a true Diva, yet she got fired from the Metropolitan Opera for acting like one. Magnificent singer. Glad to hear she's coming back to the Met this Spring.
That performance of Kathleen Battle was a top quality performance. It was nothing short of outstanding. Throughout the song, she had total voice control. There were no flaws.
God did she have a god given voice ! I happen to like Jessye Normans version also . There also exists a duet between them on this particular spiritual .
Such an array of comments that made attempts to marginalize and downplay her stellar performance, displayed in this footage... Many non-Blacks could not and cannot process this level of natural vocal skill/texture by being a women of color; especially from a Black woman.
If you're both still looking, here it is! It was arranged by Margaret Bonds and sung both by Kathleen Battle and Jessye Norman ! www.lachsa.net/ourpages/auto/2015/10/29/47276725/He_s%20Got%20The%20Whole%20World%20in%20His%20Hand.pdf
I'm sorry to say this was not a recital it was a met gala. Kathleen Battle sing 2 songs the first one was called Ride On Jesus and then of course he's got the whole world in his hands. it was at the beginning of her career. her first performance at the Met was The Barber of Seville and she did a very good job. I was impressed I recorded it and still have the tape. Agape too all. and check yourself before you wreck yourself. no I'm not black take care
What A talent. ... i. Heard her in The AFA in Colorado Springs years ago and she made a total fool of herself, scolding her piano accompanist until he left. What a disappointment.
When you are black, you have to behave yourself. At all times. White people can misbehave till the cows come home but they are always given a pass. Maybe his piano accompanist was not very good? And i bet this accompanist waswhite which makes his feelings far more important than the lady's craft.
Kathleen Battle was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. please don't torment those that are mentally ill. that's why she was fired from the met. when she got this horrible disease under control she continued 2 sing. please leave this great lady alone. I know I am not black. I am not partial everyone is equal in my eyes. agape love to all of you just enjoy her. a Aria from The Barber of Seville una voce poco fa . is absolutely fabulous listen to that one. this is after she got control of her mental illness. take care Kathleen we love you carry on.

@Ari Martin glad I could help xD
I agree with you...
Kathleen knows where she got that gift. It's not from this realm. And she praises HIM

This made me cry a river of tears of joy. Remember: tears are also prayers

Our Dearest & Most Precious Kathleen Battle
You Are A Special Gift To Us All!
I love her sooo muuuchh!!!!
So glad to find a great recording of this song. I have been working on it for a while. THANK YOU.
Beautiful, spiritual at its best.
I heard her live in 2006. There is simply no substitution for a live performance...her recordings don't do her justice.
Kathleen Battles the best. Thanks for posting.
She’s an angel
Wow 😲 my o my thank You Jesus ❤🔥
You sing like an Angel from Heaven!
God did she have a god given voice ! I happen to like Jessye Normans version also . There also exists a duet between them on this particular spiritual .

A privileged voice. Her rendition of this spiritual is by far my favorite.
A "privileged" voice?... Her voice was an ordained bestowing, as being... How was she "privileged"?... Please elaborate🤔
By far my favorite as well...
Great dress!
I used to sing this song in Kindergarten!

Love this and Jessie’s... BUT, Leontyne Price owns this spiritual... it will absolutely to tears.
Then go listen to Ms. Price and stop commenting on Ms. Battle. No shade towards our Fabulous sister Ms. Price just smoke for YOU.
