- 400 runners,50 horses racing over 22 miles at LLanwrtyd Wells in Wales. Runners have a 15 minute head start then the horses start in pursuit. The route is tortuous, hills, streams, bogs and forestry tracks. At the halfway point, all the horses are vetted and held until their heart rate is below 64bpm. The race can be won and lost at this point. With prize money of 1000 guineas it attracts top runners and riders. This year the horse was victorious. This clip shows the race to the halfway vet check, battery ran out for the latter stages! I dont own the music on this video and will remove it on the owners request.
Reading through the comments you can tell who is an experienced rider, who has limited riding knowledge & who has never got on a horse and ridden properly before

Looks like so much fun! Not trying to be a spoil sport or offensive but some riders didn't have a clue. Oh well all a bit of fun and no horse got hurt

They're experienced riders, but some are not experienced with deep mud. The one rider who went through the mud had no clue how deep the mud can go.

may just be a wrong opinion, but i don't think it was a good idea to havr that spooked horses back legs aiming ay the crowd at the beginning of the video
+Gia Reed I know why you are saying that. But, as a rider myself, you know you need to turn your horse so they can't see the thing scaring them whilst going past it.. therefore calming them down. If you turn to face the thing scaring them, it can get much worse. Tbh, people know horses back legs are strong and dangerous. They should have all been further away/moved away when the horse was near, just to be on the safe side.

+Shanel_loves _her_ponies Honestly a lot of riders aren't experienced with bogs I know in my local area we don't have them so to them this would just look like a little bit of mud and they would have NO clue of the depth these spots can get to. Definitely a lesson in learning the environment you are riding in and a great experience (so long as no one was hurt) for both rider and horse. Really kind of proud of the horse for not panicking.

I've read most these comments and there about how far either the horse or runner's went. I'm sorry I would get pissed off if I'm trying to do a run then a horse just gallops past. I'm a long time horse rider and even I there was one person on the path I wouldn't go faster then a walk past them just in case something happens and it's just polite. they usually stop and let me passed and say hello. Oh well looked like a brilliant ride though nice horse

If you want to try the sport in this video it is called endurance. There are rides from 16k (occasionally there are a few 10k rides held) all the way to 160k.
Its a great sport and really fun. Very welcoming environment as well

Some people need to read the caption before commenting, these horses are almost all kept in the top shape you can get them in, they aren't running them the whole time, and when you are seeing them running on pavement, they have protective shoe like things on (idk what they're called we don't use them) to help and as you notice they aren't running them as hard as they can on the pavement, or at any time during this video, it was actually mostly trotting and reading he caption it clearly says that they were vet check during the middle, that means if something was wrong, they wouldn't continue, so like it's not like they would have been forced to run if the horse broke something or got hurt, I am sure there have been times someone or something has gotten hurt but 1. sometime someone will turn up, 2. you really shouldn't be too far away from someone, 3. ik cross country is MUCH different than this but they still run out in the woods and such so like they are able to be hurt too, and 4. if you have a problem or concern dealing with yourself as a runner or rider, I am sure the vet could help you and I'm pretty sure they would have at least a nurse or something of that sort there, there is no way, with that many people, that they wouldn't.

Thanks.........It was shot uesing a Gopro 2. I only had a 8GB sd card so shot it in 720 resolution so i could fit more on the card,but the quality still came out ok. Great camera i use it for loads of different stuff :)

its 22miles,and yes a runner has won on a couple of occasions,its very hilly and will take you roughly the same time as a flat marthon,so if you can do a 2h 15 min marthon you may have a slim chance of winning !!!!!!!

Please don't canter on roads(at the beginning), it can really hurt the horses legs and is painful to watch.
There are special shoes for it and all the ones I saw had shoes on.
