- Puffin Books were once a respectable publisher, but they now publish any trendy nonsense, including a bizarre book by a television presenter called Alison Hammond. This book, Black in Time: The Most Awesome Black Britons from Yesterday to Today, is aimed at children and contains some of the most horribly misleading material about British history ever seen.

The mainstream media's complaints about lack of diversity in football teams, colleges, schools etc would make someone unacquainted with England think that half the population is black.

A few years ago whilst working for a major charity I attended a diversity course. After a few hours I asked the ‘facilitator’ what the ratio of the various races in the UK population was. ‘Oh that’s easy she said 40% white, 30% black & 30% Asian’

I sense something of a generational change;- my older nephew, age 22, is completely woke to the extent that he wears some sort of shapeless, corduroy romper suit and melts down at the slightest thing. His younger brother is 16, likes sharp, vintage Italian clobber calls his teachers out as 'lefties' and quotes information from the channel, chapter and verse to them.

I would agree here... I work in a school, mainly with teenagers. The older ones who have now left (18-20) have been pretty woke in terms of ideology, dress etc but the younger ones I see coming through are wanting to do away with a lot of this stuff and are big fans of fact checking everyone (a legacy of the so called 'age of misinformation', but it seems to be backfiring on the left as they now want to fact check them too).
There is hope then for the next generation - who may despise us for what we have all allowed to happen

When I followed the Amazon link, I was pleasantly surprised to see more than a few bad reviews citing specific lies and falsehoods and calling for this author to read an ACTUAL history book before she tries to rewrite British history.

I had a look at the Amazon link too. The bad reviews are all dated the 8th August, curiously enough, the same date as Simon's video. Good to see.

My granddaughter recently studied American History with a particular accent on black slavery for her degree. I was amazed at much of the bulls droppings she has come out with after achieving her degree and continuing to do her masters. It isn't just ignoring the mores of the time both in America and Britain, it is the total guilt trip she has been put on for being white and British. We have always had an hair shirt mentality in the UK but it is now becoming extreme. Add to this the veggie (near Vegan) claptrap and I despair.
Many if not most universities are no longer seats of learning but disseminators of misinformation bordering on outright lying in many instances. I am astounded at the current direction education has gone in the UK.

Well I was born in the UK, went to school in the 50's and 60's, made a trip back in 2019 and saw the absolute decay and societal change that made me feel uneasy. I will remember the good times growing up and my youth but will never return.

If I were black, I would feel pretty insignificant, knowing the only way for the history of my ancestors to be told was for things to be made up about it. Usually by someone of my own color who should know better taking half a kernel of truth and building a fictional history on top of it, or by patronizing, long established tv networks or publishing houses feeling the need to accommodate the trend to put black faces in places where they never were. Either way it only leads to disillusionment when independent, authentic research finds out that very little to none of this made up history has any basis in fact.

Problem is there are very slim pickings, in Ireland we adore footballer Paul McGrath and singer Phil Lynott. You made me smile Simon. Alison Hammond is no more a historian or writer than my cat. She appeared on some tacky reality show some years ago and moved on to bits of presenting on morning tv. She is at present co-presenter on the morning programme which Eamonn Holmes and his wife spent years on. I have never watched it (her booming voice and tremor-making laugh are more than my ears could cope with) and I don't think she was a well-received candidate. I don't for one minute think she collated all those dates and data.

Our universities are full of serious and highly knowledgeable historians, the vast majority of whom know that this sort of "history" is absolute rubbish. Why do they not challenge it at every turn? Apart from the Marxist activist types who believe lying to the public is justified in order to achieve their aims, most are just too scared to open their mouths - they know the consequences of challenging the woke orthodoxy - they would be denounced, their books wouldn't be published, they would be ostracised and would probably loose their jobs! But I believe we are seeing signs of a swinging of the pendulum - a time will come when the zeitgeist changes and the truth can raise its head above the parapet.

I'd never heard of Alison Hammond so I googled her. Horrified to discover that she started her TV "career" as a Big Brother contestant. As far as intellectual credentials go, it doesn't get any lower. Also interesting that all these books that tell lies about British history are aimed at children. You don't see any aimed at the adult market (correct me if I am wrong here). Adults are less easy to fool.

This has given me an idea. I'm English and live in Spain. I fancy writing 'Iberian Britons'. I could talk about the founding of the first 2 football clubs, Neil Harbisson and the Osborne family. tbh it would probably end there, but then again I'm not desperate to prove that the country I choose to live in has 'people like me' in its history. There aren't any in parliament and I never see any on TV or in films either. Despite this i manage not to cry myself to sleep at night.

I think we need more sections in our bookshops so that we can categorize books more accurately. Alongside "fiction" and "non-fiction" we certainly need "propaganda", but maybe we need "wishful thinking" or just plain "Bullsh*t".
Under friction
Alison Hammond is a presenter of This Morning. She has been a long term fixture on that show, but for many years was there just for the purpose of bringing a silly factor to proceedings, performing some sort of "whacky" comic relief trying to drum up some interest in some competition for the viewers to enter. That sort of thing.
She has no real history of presenting a show in full but was recently given the presenting duties of the show itself, replacing long-term hosts (with significant experience in such matters) Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, neither of whom wanted to leave and the viewer numbers were pretty good. Hammond was essentially a diversity hire and built up her initial stint on This Morning after appearing on one of the first editions of Big Brother, at a time when appearing on the show led to decent opportunities in media careers afterwards. Her early presenting led to some fairly serious clangers, including:
- asking Graham Norton about his dead dog
- stating "we expected him to die" about Prince Philip
- Stated the wrong name about a royal death
I'm not sure what the viewer figures are like since she took over, but she shouldn't have been given the gig. Even if you take her to be a polished tv presenter and formidable mind (she isn't), she isn't a historian and there's no reason to see how and why she has written a history book.
She's just the 'celebrity' front for this nefarious exercise, someone young kids will believe because she's been 'on the telly'. I'd bet my last fiver a ghost writer did the hard ideological slog on this one...

Time was, publishers had the guts to reject crap books such as this, and stop writers embarrassing themselves and, more importantly, stop them insulting the minorities they were lying about. Unfortunately, in the cowardice relay race, publishers now come a close third to academics and politicians.
It takes about 2 generations before a blatant lie which nobody believed becomes a truth universally accepted by all.
No such thing as a black or Muslim British person.
Just watched BBC Country File, a regular Sunday program to find a tour led by Matt Baker of Hadrian's Wall where we discovered the Romans garrisoned there were a 'multi cultural' and diverse bunch from as far afield as Syria, which incidentally was to allay our fears of a migrant tsunami from Syria. We were told by a Pakistani muslim from Leeds. See the Syrians have been here all along. 'Multi cultural' and diverse, but built a wall to keep the Scots out. History is becoming a 'Pic n' Mix', choose what you like.

The wokesters have gone too far and lost a court case on trans rights. There's a new book "The Case Against the Sexual Revolution" which is getting good reviews. Respectable people, such as the staff of the BBC, can and must be made to realise that they have let down our own poor, notably people from the East End of London like yourself.
