Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. The drummer (Ah-Kah-Neh) is world-class! Every song of theirs, she shines. And even though Band-Maid isn't a Metal band, it's almost always a double-pedal bass drum.
A thing about the maid outfits, Kiwi: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids. Band-Maid does that extremely well in their songs. That's why so many of us old geezers love them. Their use of harmonies along with their great rock sense take us back to our youth. Band-Maid is not any type of genre specific band. They will incorporate any genre in their songs if they work to make the song better. "Alone" was the band's first written, produced, and recorded song allowed by their label. After that, they have written all of their own music (with one exception _"Smile"). Kanami Tono, their lead guitarist and composer, was a classically trained pianist and took courses for composition in college. Their songs show her amazing compositional skills (and genius) as well as her blazing guitar shredding abilities. Miku Kobato, the rhythm guitarist, is the group's lyricist. Miku's Japanese poetic mindset often gives the listener the opportunity to make up their own mind about what the lyrics mean. (Now that's truly a poetic mind). Although "Alone" wasn't Band-Maid's first song it was the first song they wrote, composed and produced on their own. They had to fight with their record label to make it happen. Now the band largely writes, composes and produces their own material. Also, it would be more than fine to show Band-Maid to your dad because believe it or not their fan base is largely older men, not because of anything sexual but rather because they play styles of music that resonates with older audiences.

I think you don't start seeing English subtitles regularly with them until after their first US tour in 2016. They were kind of shocked to find that their shows were full of people who already knew them and their songs. But their first video Thrill has them.

I got into hard rock in the early '80s and then spent 40 years waiting for a band that does what Band-Maid does: have every instrument totally kill it on every song, with no filler tracks. A list of the worst Band-Maid songs is still a list of great songs. I'm sure the comments are already telling you to go watch the "Freedom" official live video, but since you're into drums, you should also check out a drummer named Junna, who has 7 years' worth of crazy drum covers on her channel and is the current drummer for the group Hagane. Like Akane, she is an absolute joy to watch play.

I don't even include merely female-fronted acts like BABYMETAL. (Lovebites, Gacharic Spin, Nemophila, Trident, NEK!, Hagane, East of Eden, Bridear, STMLT, and many others.) Buckle up. This ain't Baby Metal! The rhythm guitarist (Miku) is second singer and put the band together. All members are top talent. MISA may or may not be my favorite bassist! If you liked the solo may I suggest you start your dad with "Don't you tell ME (Official Live Video)" or one of the instrumentals "From Now On" or "Onset". All great songs for my gym playlist!

The young lady doing the guitar solo was the composer of this song -- the first song of the avalanche. Until this song the management insisted that the band play songs written by other people. The poor guitarist kept writing songs and being knocked back -- and would have given up but for encouragement from the vocalist. But with this song the management finally relented and allowed it on their CD. Next CD? Every song written by the guitarist -- this song "Alone" was her breakthrough song. She hasn't looked back and has gone on to write many fantastic songs and instrumentals. She has played piano from the age of four -- classical works, like Chopin -- and still composes on the piano before programming guitar, drums, bass and vocal parts. She is a great composer and a great guitarist -- and a very sweet, gentle and kind person. She is Kanami, known as Mincho. Our Mincho.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. A thing about the maid outfits, Kiwi: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids.
Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

Kiwi, welcome to the world of Band-Maid. You nailed about Band-Maid and their wonderful music when you talked about the different voices harmonizing in the song. Band-Maid does that extremely well in their songs. That's why so many of us old geezers love them. Their use of harmonies along with their great rock sense take us back to our youth. Band-Maid is not any type of genre specific band. They will incorporate any genre in their songs if they work to make the song better.
"Alone" was the band's first written, produced, and recorded song allowed by their label. After that, they have written all of their own music (with one exception _"Smile").
Kanami Tono, their lead guitarist and composer, was a classically trained pianist and took courses for composition in college. Their songs show her amazing compositional skills (and genius) as well as her blazing guitar shredding abilities. Miku Kobato, the rhythm guitarist, is the group's lyricist. Miku's Japanese poetic mindset often gives the listener the opportunity to make up their own mind about what the lyrics mean. (Now that's truly a poetic mind).

Although "Alone" wasn't Band-Maid's first song it was the first song they wrote, composed and produced on their own. They had to fight with their record label to make it happen. Now the band largely writes, composes and produces their own material. Also, it would be more than fine to show Band-Maid to your dad because believe it or not their fan base is largely older men, not because of anything sexual but rather because they play styles of music that resonates with older audiences.

Definitely not BabyMetal which is an IDOL group. BAND MAID is a band ... playing instruments and writing their own music. ALONE was a landmark ... the first song they were allowed to publish that they had written themselves. They had actually written many but the label had rejected them. They fought for control of their music and won ... and never looked back.

I think you don't start seeing English subtitles regularly with them until after their first US tour in 2016. They were kind of shocked to find that their shows were full of people who already knew them and their songs. But their first video Thrill has them.

Great reaction to a great song! I got into hard rock in the early '80s and then spent 40 years waiting for a band that does what Band-Maid does: have every instrument totally kill it on every song, with no filler tracks. A list of the worst Band-Maid songs is still a list of great songs.
I'm sure the comments are already telling you to go watch the "Freedom" official live video, but since you're into drums, you should also check out a drummer named Junna, who has 7 years' worth of crazy drum covers on her channel and is the current drummer for the group Hagane. Like Akane, she is an absolute joy to watch play.

And I'm seeing HANABIE. this weekend! There's an incredible wealth of all-female rock and metal bands in Japan just now. I don't even include merely female-fronted acts like BABYMETAL. (Lovebites, Gacharic Spin, Nemophila, Trident, NEK!, Hagane, East of Eden, Bridear, STMLT, and many others.)

The young lady doing the guitar solo was the composer of this song -- the first song of the avalanche. Until this song the management insisted that the band play songs written by other people. The poor guitarist kept writing songs and being knocked back -- and would have given up but for encouragement from the vocalist. But with this song the management finally relented and allowed it on their CD. Next CD? Every song written by the guitarist -- this song "Alone" was her breakthrough song. She hasn't looked back and has gone on to write many fantastic songs and instrumentals. She has played piano from the age of four -- classical works, like Chopin -- and still composes on the piano before programming guitar, drums, bass and vocal parts. She is a great composer and a great guitarist -- and a very sweet, gentle and kind person. She is Kanami, known as Mincho. Our Mincho.
