Since it belongs to the Ugric-Altaic family, it is therefore completely different from, for example, Spanish or English.
There are many sounds (about half of the sound set) that do not exist in the listed languages. You definitely need a teacher to learn them.

In Europe, in addition to Spain, hot peppers began to be grown en masse here, and later in the Kalocsa region. A Hungarian invention contributed to this: grinding paprika into powder. We can read about its peasant production and use for the first time in József Csapó's herbal book from Debrecen (1775).
For the first time, the peasants of the Great Plains realized that when added to red onions roasted in pork fat, the flavors and colors of the ground paprika dissolve optimally. This is the so-called stew base, which is still used in the preparation of a significant number of Hungarian dishes. This completely transformed Hungarian cuisine.

So so beautiful and the natural wonders had me gobsmacked. I love hearing about it's Baroque and Renaissance history as well as it's connection with Vlad Dracula! The springs were a highlight and I will definitely be back. I now see why it's called as The Paris Of The East

There are about 150 hot water spas in the country, including 36 special baths that contain, among other things, radioactive, sulfuric-acid, saline-bromine-carbonate, iodine water. Europe's only cave spa is in North-Eastern Hungary in Tapolca, and Hévíz near Lake Balaton is Europe's best-known warm (33 °C) spa lake. Some of the baths of Budapest - the "spa capital" of the world for decades - were already used in Turkish times. There are two dozen baths and 13 spas in the capital.
In Egerszalók, the healing water that erupts when it cools can hold less dissolved material than before, and the difference precipitates out and creates a so-called salt hill. It can only be seen in Pamukkale (Turkey) and Yellowstone National Park (USA).

@@RhettandClaire Pesht is correct. In daily use, Budapest is too long.
At the time of unification, until about 1873, the economically more important Pest was in front, and it was written with a hyphen (Pest-Buda). The Hungarian language does not like congestion of consonants, which is probably why the two words were reversed. But maybe the gesture towards the ruler was the reason. Buda once again became a royal residence.

It's actually not underrated. It's full of tourists from everywhere in the world all year round. There are tons of foreigners buying real estate, and many flats are used for AirBnB. So much that prices went up through the roof. (aided by inflation and some local policies). It's not just Budapest, Germans are basically buying everything around lake Balaton. There were so many people in the last national day (20th of august) that we couldn't exit the metro to go see the fireworks. So, the complete opposite: Budapest is way too hyped at the moment. Nice for tourists but becoming too expensive for locals..

The lángos sold at the Great Market Hall in Budapest is often overpriced, making it a bit of a tourist trap. While you can find this popular Hungarian snack for around 4-6 euros in various spots around the city, the prices at the Market Hall tend to be significantly higher. Many locals recommend enjoying lángos elsewhere for a more authentic and reasonably priced experience.

Hungary has a lot of amazing food. Gulyás is great, one of my favourite dishes, but it unjustly gets all the attention.
Pörkölt is amazing, especially with tejföl.
Resztelt máj (chopped liver with onion) is amazing.
Székelykáposzta (fermented cabbage with usually pork and tejföl).
Paprikás krumpli (potato, paprika, sausage and whatnot).
Rakott kel (kale with rice and ground pork, usually AND TEJFÖL)
Túrógombóc (a snack made out of cottage cheese, WITH TEJFÖL)
Túrós tészta (more of a snack than a real dish: basically pasta, cottage cheese, sugar AND TEJFÖL, yes, we add tejföl to everything, and the world is a better place for it!)
There are a lot of amazing Hungarian sausages.
    Halászlé (fish soup)
    And so on!

I do not want to seem like an unwelcoming idiot BUT:
Please, Budapest is spelled something like "BOODAPESHT" there is no snakey "s" there at all.
Also the country is not called Hungry, it called HungAry even in English as I would not expect learning the official Magyarország.
It is so annoying that this small step towards the local culture was not made, at the age of mass tourism this is just so f*d up that so many tourists just come here to do the content and give a s*t about the actual places. No wonder why Athens, Barcelona and other cities in Europe revolt now against tourists. I would not mention other problems in this video even though there are many, this keeps coming up and is super frustrating.

Great video. I really enjoyed it BUT ... please forgive me for being critical but don't you think "underrated" has become the most overused word in travel videos now? It has become one of the most common words in video titles. If it's a place that's not in the top 10 most visited places on earth it's 'underrated'.
And I even think it's the wrong word. 'Underrated' to me means people rate it as being worse than it really is. I don't think people do that to Budapest. It is in fact highly rated. If you mean it receives less attention than you think it should, OK. But it's not really underrated. And with over four million visitors annually it's actually not that ignored either. It has more visitors than Krakow, Copenhagen, Lisbon, Edinburgh, Seville ....

I think one superlative hasn´t been mentioned: safety. Budapest is nothing like Paris, London, Berlin, Barcelona or other western cities riddled with crime. And there´s a reason for it I´m not gonna address but those of you who follow the news just a bit must know why.

    • @JohnSmith-sm7ez
      @JohnSmith-sm7ez 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

Many stats are worse in Budapest and crime is rising. Violent crime always the main concern and it has a pretty poor rate. And most is not gang v gang. Minus gang v gang stats from Budapest and these cities , and general public safety would be better in these larger cities. Large rich cities attract more gangs. Anyway petty theft is also awful in Budapest. And corruption off the charts,

    • @jansoltes971
      @jansoltes971 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JohnSmith-sm7ez
Sure, corruption is terrible and Budapest could be better on it in terms of safety - it fares worse than many other similar capitals (Warsaw, Prag) and other big/bigger cities in that region. Still though, could you provide the stats you mentioned?
Also, do women in Budapest fear to travel by bus after dusk? Do they fear to go to public swimming pools like girls/women in many German cities? Did Hungarians families give up evening strolls in cities centres?
And where are there gangs in big rich cities like Warsaw or Prag? Or are they not big and rich enough? And if that doesn´t match that logic then where are there gangs in Tokyo putting the lives of common ppl at risk? I mean yes, there is definitely a correlation, but it is not an automatic thing or a kind of natural law.

    A few thoughts, info:
As unbelievable as it may be, goulash is an invention of the restaurateurs of Pest (around the end of the 19th century). This was the age of national romanticism, so a fashionable name was needed. This was the goulash. This word denotes a herdsman who deals with cattle ( cowboy?) . As the name suggests, this is a shepherd's dish. It isn't.
Farmers and shepherds were not rich, so they rarely ate meat.
Paprika was not cheap either, so it was rarely used.
Meat was only eaten on holidays, but that wasn't typical either.
They usually ate pasta. The typical shepherd's dish is "slambuc"
This is a pasta fried in bacon fat and then cooked.
By the beginning of the 20th century, at least 25 goulash recipes were known. Therefore, it can be said that all the nations of the former Monarchy have their own version. It is related to this: there are as many versions as there are made.
What is always the same in the case of Hungarian goulash: Always spicy vegetable broth.
Great Market Hall. It was originally designed so that ships could enter the hall. This was later dropped. The boulevards in Pest also had a canal concept (like in Venice).
14:57 paprika in tourist packaging. By the way, there are 6 classes of ground pepper, to which there are three subgroups according to spiciness, and further subgroups according to the place of production.
Erős Pista/Strong Stevie is a well-known raw ground salted cream. A man's head with a big mustache can be seen on it. This is spicy, but if there is little spiciness, it is even more spicy. (Manufactory products such as Utolsó kenet/Final anointing or Attila Isten ostora/ Attila's God's whip. But I can also recommend Gabko products)
There are also many types of raw peppers (chili). Some are eaten raw, others pickled.
    15:08 congratulations on the pronunciation!
Today's Fisherman's Bastion was built specifically for spectacle. He participated in only one battle, during the Second World War, during the siege of Buda. Its foundations, however, have seen a lot of fighting, as has the entire area. This wall section was also called this before the current building. The name can be linked to the area between it and the Danube. The name of this part is Viziváros / Watercity. Its inhabitants were mainly fishermen. Since the current building did not exist at the time of the fishermen, they could not protect it.
Bastions, sections of walls, gates were named after geographical locations. For example, the gate where the road started towards Hatvan was called Hatvani gate. (There was such a gate, it stood on today's Astoria square.)
