Iv got to pot mine I bought, do you think a little seaweed tonic would strengthen the roots? Im in hot summer in semi tropical Brisbane Australia. They say on label full sun, but they flopped in the full sun. I will put in shade until stronger after potting. I think if you put crimson flowers under your leggy one, hiding the long legs, it will be beautiful and well hidden.
I have over 50 from two plants, i live in the UK very wet. When i take cuttings the mother plant and the cutting always wilt. I put mine straight into rooting compound and into pots.
Also this is the first year some of mine are going to flower. So these plants are from the original mother plant. Age two years roughly 18 inch by 18 inch. Some of them are larger. I feed mine on Banana and Egg shell boiled in a pan. Put into 5 litre containers and roughly a tablespoon to 10 litres of water feed one week in four.
Yes you absolutely can. Best to take a clipping in early spring when they are putting on new growth. Clip the end of the branch and make sure they have a couple of leave nodes, strip the leaves and put in the potting soil. Using some rooting hormones would be helpful for the rhodie. Keep moist and not in direct sunlight. You can also bury the middle of a low hanging branch of a rhodie and put a rock on top of the part you buried. It will root at the nodes after a few months. Cut from the mother plant and plant in a pot or area of your yard.
@thehappyplacegarden Thank you for your quick reply. 😊 I purchased a starter online and it arrived in a very sad state so I'm trying to revive it. But wanted to make sure I had it the proper soil. Thank you.
I’m having trouble with mine. I keep thinking it’s dry because of the crispness in the middle, like yours here. Is that actually a sign of overwatering?
That is a really pretty plant. it will be so interesting to see if it works
Thanks very much, I followed your directions and mine is doing wonderful. The new ones and the original mother plant. I did mine in a bay window.
I am so glad it worked well for you. They are such beautiful plants.
Thank you so much for making this video!
Very helpful thanks ❤

Can you leave them outside during the winter or do you put them inside or in a greenhouse?
@@thehappyplacegarden I leave mine out side and cover them from frost. My garden is raised and most are not in pots.

Very interesting. Do you know if you can propagate a cutting from a Rhododendron?

@@thehappyplacegarden Thank you so much for the information My sister has one and hopefully I will too 🤞
You are very welcome. You can try the bury a branch method this time of year but you need to have the dirt moist.
hi thsank you for this video. can you tell me how long you leave them to callus for? im in ireland so we have quite damp weather . thank you
I let them callus for 2 days.
What is the potting medium you use to propagate? I see gravel on top. Thank you.
It was a mix of peat moss and potting soil with pearl lite.

In my experience it gets crisp when underwatered. Older lower leafs do get old and crisp up and should be removed.
