    Great video. My '79 C20 locked up just this morning. Had to pull the Alternator wire to shut down the truck. Watched your video and off to O'Reily's I went. All fixed now!

      Did your lock cylinder stay on start?
      I got a 74. Started it and it got stuck. Kept cranking. Changed the ignition switch still gets stuck.

    A very good video. You saved me a lot of grief with pointing out the last screw you took out which locked in the cylinder. I've have more attachments on my system than I have seen on any other videos. So the last screw is somewhat blocked,. Will pull it all the way out and that should release the cylinder.

    The removal chapter was very useful for my dad and I in installing a new steering wheel in his '84 chevy. We had to look at another video to figure out where the c clip was supposed to fit- hopefully we were right in wedging it on the part of the rod the green part sits on 😅 Thank you for sharing!

    Thanks for this video! It was pretty similar on my 1980 Chevy Malibu, couldn't have done it that efficiently without this video, even though the new ignition lock came with instructions.

    On my 87 Chevy, it wasn't that easy. Even though my ignition barrel was stuck like yours and wouldn't turn at all, it was not the ignition barrel and key that needed replacing. It was much deeper into the ignition assembly than that. If you pull that cover off where the ignition barrel and all is you will see what I'm talking about. It's a lever that goes through the column and connects to a little plastic gear that rides on a metal lever that has grooves in it. Well, that has a spring on it and the spring dislodged and went in front of the gear. I went to fix it and I got the spring back into place and it still wouldn't turn. I dug deeper into it and discovered that the metal lever that connects to the second metal lever that down further into the column which is the second section of the column that is underneath the speedometer cluster, the section that's right underneath the dash also has a second lever that the first lever next to that goes up to the base of the column. Well, that leader was bent and was not connected to the other lever anymore. So now I have to take a screwdriver in there had to break open that piece of the column just so I could start it up. I wish mine was as easy as replacing an ignition switch. Now I'm looking at having to replace the entire column possibly.

    Taking apart the whole non tilt column is the biggest bear. I think the tilt column is easier than a non tilt. The little plastic gear that meshes with the ignition cylinder strips on on those non tilts. If you want buttery smooth ignition movement, put a small but of grease one ignition switch where it slides. Mine was getting a little stiff. New they are loaded with grease but it breaks down.

    The reason they recommend you have it in the run position is so the tang retracts on the ignition to accept the ignition buzzer. Yours is missing. At 5:55 in the video you remove the ignition from the box. You can see the black tang to the far left on the new lock cylinder.

    Will this work on a 90 suburban?? I inherited one but the only key missing is the ignition key... And I need to get it started to move it.

    also I used the magnet on the filter.ive heard that this can restrict flow.unless it's a oem filter. hopefully I haven't damaged my transmission

    • @RichpinTv
      @RichpinTv  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes i believe the magnet can only be used with the oem filter.

    Also how doe the lock cylinder gets hard to turn over? I have recently changed mine and now the new one is hard to turn over the motor. I have to use a pliers to turn the engine over.

    • @joshuaphillips3394

      Sounds like wrong sticch or mounted in wrong position. It should always turn easily.
