Excellent documentary, as usual. Bravo and thank you Rick Steves. That reminded me of my History of Art studies ... so long ago but still vivid. Keep enchanting us! Thank you from Paris, France, on which you did a few remarquable documentaries too.
Prehistoric art always stands as kind-of a stone hard example that survival & art don't contrast, but complement each other. Not just do & did people have the means for it, they explicitly desired or required art. While we often can't say if an individual piece was made for religious, entertainment or informational purpose the totality of prehistoric art was created for all of these reasons.
Thank you for making your amazing material about 'my' continent available outside the United States. They are an inspiration for me to explore further and a beautiful memory of the places I have been.
Love Rick's shows...this series on art is one of his best. Although I do hope these can help stop those idiots who believe "ancient aliens" built all the great human architecture in the distant past. Wake up idiots, we humans made all these great things!!!
hi rick! i studied art history at nyu, and work now in the contemporary art world, but it's been a while since i looked at the very olden times. this video was a delight and i learned a lot! thanks so much for uploading this and can't wait to watch more :)
I could be wrong but I assume these were originally aired on television networks. I imagine this is why the episodes feel like a race, it's a shame Rick was unable to spend more time and show more work in each country he visited.
I love how some casual viewers think they know more than Rick. For the record: the pyramids were built as monuments to house the tombs of the pharaohs.
Good documentary, but the pyramids at Giza were not tombs. No mummies or artefacts and decorations connected with burial have ever been found in the Egyptian pyramids.
History in this format is extremely condensed. There are other sources on YT about Mesopotamia. It is also condensed. Credit to this format for exposing parts of history most people are not aware of. It sparks interest and imagination.
It’s amazing that you upload all of this for free!
Yes I've learned so much from his episodes!
O canal sempre apresenta material de muita qualidade , mas essa temporada se superou . Beijos do Brasil 🇧🇷
He gets the ad revenue, so not entirely for free. But it's lovely just the same.
@@LuciaFiero Fair enough, he is also into tourism business, 30,000 or so people/year book europe tours through him.
