I like the new exp ammo system, but I think it needs a better variety of ammo types to choose from, things like Raufoss and SLAP rounds for all the rifle cartridges, tracers (that could maybe do some incendiary damage), impact sensitive HEAT for the .50, HE shotgun slugs, Dragon's Breath, API incendiary 9mm, all the really fun stuff. I feel like a lot of the ammo types are really far-fetched like the tar ammo, radioactive ammo (just shooting that stuff into the ground would be getting into war crime territory🤣), shock tether ammo and medical ammo, they're kind of silly in my opinion. Some reality-based improved ammo types would be a lot cooler in my opinion. Just imagine having explosive slugs you can lob out into the distance and see a quick flash of light and smoke on impact, it would actually make the shotguns useful for a change...
When you complete a base defense or destroy an enemy base quest there's a (very high) chance you're given one of the experimental ammos schematics as a reward. It's random which you get each time but you'll eventually get them all.
From what I’ve learned in my experience, shock and corrosive ammo are amazing, and heat seems to be cool also
