Hey! I just received a conditional offer of admission for the Schulic school of engineering this Fall session. I was searching on youtube for some vlogs where I could see what student life is really like over there and I was wondering if we could correspond? Im from bangladesh btw, so am completely clueless about the education system and learning environment in the west.

@@mentallama9123 hey I have a really vague question to ask. What kind of classes did you take in high school that was kind of relevant to what you do in calgary. I know it depends on the major that you choose but like in general. What kind of subjects were helpful.
Does your University still requires IELTS?
Hi! I’m not too updated but when I applied 3 yrs ago, they told me that those that did not go to high school here are required to take IELTS. However, I’m not sure if they also take into consideration some exceptions. Like for example if you’ve taken AP English or the likes

Question, How can I get a scholarship there???
Paola Díaz when you’re applying for admission, they’re going to ask you about stuff that they’d use to evaluate and see if you’re eligible for scholarships or awards. For example, your annual income (if applicable), your volunteer experience and even your hobbies. Then if you get one, you’ll receive an email saying such. :)
i heard that 70 percent in hs is like not so good of a mark but getting a 70 in uni is like rlly good... is it true? 🥴😪
Depends on the course you’re taking.
Like what Mi Na said, it totally depends on the course. Each course would have their own criteria/range of marks.

Awsome video! It's cool to see how a normal week at university there goes on. I really hope I'll get to do my Master's Degree there next year (well i hope i'll be able to get in) :D. Until than, one more year to pass here, haha. By the way, at least for me, the labs are my favorites :D, and i have at least 2 labs every day! Would like to see more videos! Keep it up!

You mentioned about early admission in another comment. And on the website, for admission on January intake for example, the deadline is July 1st. Do you have to provide all the data until then or is it the deadline you should start your application? Because I have to defend my thesis somewhere at the beginning of July and I don't have the score for that 😅

You can always start applying as soon as the “early” admission starts. Like if they said deadline, that means that’s the last day to complete your application (@11:59 Calgary time, I think). I recommend that you do it way before the deadline though bc there might be stuff that you still need to know i.e. parents’ combined income or your annual income. Leaving things at the very last minute just never turned out great for me (learned it the hard way LOL). GOOD LUCK ON YOUR THESIS! You got this 💪🏻

The University wasn’t that hard to get into. I think it was mostly because I applied during early admissions (there’d be less competition and no competitive average to achieve yet). They usually have the early admissions open around October/November. For the tuition money, I got a bursary that paid for my whole first year. I applied for it the same way I applied for admission. :) There were also a couple other scholarships that I got in high school. But the one that helped me a lot is the student loan provided by the government. There will be a video about how I funded my tuition fees though (I hope it will be soon lol 🤞🏻).

Hey! I'm not sure about the hostels. About making friends, I think it is pretty easy to make friends here. People are so nice and pretty accommodating :) I'm assuming you're an international student? They have clubs for international students. Lastly, what did you mean by session?

You could always apply to stay at the dorms at U of C or even stay at the hotel on campus (the rates are lower than other hotels since its meant for students). There also is a hostel near U of C, but due to Covid-19 it is closed now.
