In the scene where they putting money in a hat, who was that money for?
in the play, a scholarship for students from Gander.
in real life it was set up for high-school students of Lewisporte and surrounding area, a nearby town who also took in refugees. The townspeople wouldn't accept money from the refugees, so they decided on the plane to set up a scholarship fund as a way to give back.
