Man, when he said he was going to use the river water, my first instinct was, "No Don't! It's probably contaminated with pesticides and all kinds of trash and chemical waste!" Then I remembered where he is and it just made me sad I can't do the same thing in the US...
therein Mongolia rivers had 2 different kinds of water, drinking and not drinking. That's the point. Of course in the U.S most rivers are polluted by chemicals, not like Mongolia!
Davaa understands healthy outdoor cookery. Carry along a sturdy pot, a few utensils and really sharp knives, some veggies, a little flour and seasoned oil --- and serious chunks of good beef! It just doesn't get any better than that, folks. My kind of feast! 👍👍

We have bread-n-butter pickles in the US like that as well, though I haven't seen sweet ones. There are a large variety of different pickles, so I was wondering about these as well.
Depends on the brand. Mostly the ones you get from the shops taste the same - they tend to be quite sour, like Eastern European pickles, rather than sweet. But the homemade pickles are mostly just salted.

Brings back many precious memories of rough camping in the peak District in Derbyshire. I love that the river water is so pure. We used water from the spring. Many rivers in England are polluted. @@bo_naraa Not just nomads, I think, I think lots of dishes can be done that way - I watch historical cooking videos and old recipes more often _don't_ give measures than they do, it was up to the cook and their experience and taste. And even with modern recipes, very often I try a meal once or twice according to the recipe and then just eyeball it from thereon :-)
