I made restaurant-style menus to help me meal plan

  • Meal planning, prep, cooking, eating...all of it is hard.
I struggled to make decisions around food. Meal planning was impossible. I was improvising every single day.
So I asked myself what I LIKE to eat. And I made a list. And then I used that list to make a BUNCH of menus, as if I was eating from a restaurant...at home. Every single night.
Now when I meal plan, I feel like I'm reserving my favorite food ahead of time, instead of scrabbling around in my pantry for something to endure.
I made the menus using free restaurant menu templates, personalized them, printed them out, and now I'm flipping through them and giving you the deep dive on my home kitchen menus.

This is BRILLIANT! I’m definitely trying this. It’s great and fun to give to family members too to see what everyone wants.

I love the concept of the themed menus. It is also a cute idea to have an affordable dinner at home. It has encouraged me to learn how to cook, try new dishes, and make a custom meal plan for the week. I have also found it difficult to choose the menu with my partner and with this idea, it could be a fun activity. Thanks

This is an amazing idea. Thinking of meal planning can be super overwhelming but I love the idea of curated set of things that I like.

Awesome, might start doing this as someone who does most of the cooking in the household

This is such a fine idea to look for inspo from restaurant menus! I've done that in the sense of trying to recreate a favorite dish, but not beyond that.

This is so clever, definitely going to use this. I get pretty overwhelmed with planning my meals, so this will definitely help make the choice easier. Do you keep the recipes for these dishes in a separate book? I was thinking of adding QR codes on the menu pages to direct me to the recipe website, but I'm wondering how you organise them!

Using QR codes is so clever!! My current recipe system is in the cloud: for online recipes, I'll "print" the page as a pdf and upload it to my Google Drive. For cookbook recipes, I'll scan pages with my phone camera and upload those to Drive as well. It's (somewhat) organized, haha. I also keep a folder of "untried" recipes separate from our usuals so I can look through for inspiration. Recently I've been printing out those recipes more often just to have them on paper, so I might start collecting them in a discbound notebook, but at least for storage and organization (and easy searching), it's primarily in my Google Drive! You've really got me thinking about this QR code idea though... :)

I really shouldn’t get so overwhelmed and irritated when I have to think about what to eat for dinner everyday. I actually feel like making these would make everything easier, as far as planning and even getting excited by the meals I have planned

This was an awesome video! Very fun idea! I love this! I want to do something similar to organize my menu. It's genius to sort menus by types of cuisines! Because I have trouble making decisions, I may need this, but may also find myself overwhelmed by choice, so I may pair this menu with a paper dice I could fold or unfold that has ethnic food types on the side, like French, Italian, Mexican, Mediterranean, Japanese, etc... just in case my cravings are non-existent and I need a guide to inspire me and narrow my choices down. I could make a few different dice, too, that have other options on it. Super cool video! 👌💗

oh my gosh thank you so much!! And the dice idea sounds fabulous! Very clever! I definitely understand that struggle with overwhelm/non-existent cravings/difficult decisions. I'd love to know how it all turns out if you set it up!

@joyagenda I'll see what I can do. I'm doing videos currently on another channel of mine, and I just did a few organization videos, but now with Valentine's Day, Easter and a whole bunch of little holidays coming up I'm immersing myself in those videos. I may create a dice video someday, though, just to show what fun things you can do with that project.
