The soundtrack to this game is honestly underappreciated. No, it isn't as iconic as the other games soundtracks, but this one is memorable.
it’s robotic sounding music really sets the tone for the game. I just think it missed the mark on some songs but there are some really good hypnotic ones you get stuck in your head for sure.
The gameplay is awesome snd smooth the music did not capture me at all but this is also the only one I did not playbad a kid. The others I play non stop.so perhaps if I had some nastalgia to it the music might sound better.
The soundtrack in this game is ass. The only reason you're saying this is because the soundtrack of the second game was incredible. this one is absolute trash thrown together as quickly as possible with zero music coherence whatsoever.
Just a thanks Mike for getting me into retro gaming. My generation was the ending of Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, and the introduction of the Nintendo 64; though we did own an NES my dad bought back in the day. So many great titles out there from old school consoles that actually interest me more than modern games (mini-movies) that I never got to try. Even the sound of the buttons on retro controllers, particularly NES, is music

This game on Hard is HARDER than Bare Knuckle 3 on Hardest.
I loved all the Streets Of Rage games, but my favorite is 2. Skate was definitely cool as hell to use.

When I was a kid I was so proud of myself because I had beaten SOR 1,2,3 and hadn’t beaten any game in my childhood at that time so yeah I was super stoked about it. And on normal difficulty they weren’t really that easy. Speaking of beating video games the hardest one for me to not only beat but basically “100%” the game was A Link To The Past! It literally took me from the time I was 5 until I turned 8. I remember finally figuring out how to get into Turtle Rock and I knew it was gonna happen that day. 2 weeks later I finally beat it LOL! Totally miss those days. Oh yeah, one more game I was so excited finally beating was Super Metroid! Such great memories on the SNES! Easily one of the beat game machines ever!

My buddy and I used to rent this game over and over way back when. When the store decided to sell their Genesis and SNES games in favour of N64 and Playstation, I bought the copy. Still own it!

The level with the timers was a nightmare. Streets of rage 2 was a doddle compared to this

Too bad I wasn't on during the stream, I could have told Mike that there is a blitz move, which he only did by accident, where there are rails, the one who shakes the most indicates where the cart is coming as well as telling him that if you are thrown, hold up+jump and you'll land on your feet. He could have saved himself A LOT of pain.
Mike's comments during play are priceless - "You dont wanna get mixed up with me, I'm a loner, a rebel" while play as Skate. LOL.

Monkeyball Banana Blitz was the best game i've ever played.
I just finished getting S ranks on all the hard levels on Streets of Rage 4. If you haven't played it yet, check it out. Blaze player for life!!!
to get easy big damage combo
punch x2 -> get close and grab -> forward punch x2 -> back punch
also abuse (Running) and (Roll) up x2 - Down x2 (this game better than SOR2 for the movement )
there is SSS moves with X button
for example Axle --( X -> forward x2 ) - ( X -> Down -> forward ) -( X -> Back -> Down -> forward )
The Chuck Rock Series on Genesis was one of my favorites as a kid I mean everyone loved Sonic but I don't hear many people talk about Chuck

Mike if you get the time there's a fan made remake of Super Double Dragon called Legend of the Double Dragon which improves the games speed and changes the combat, along with adding some new characters. Hopefully you'll get around to trying it...

Thoughts on Road Rash? Not sure I've ever heard a mention of it. Would make for a very entertaining stream..Genesis 1 2 3 or the first PS version. The later ones are trash.

SOR3 is the best in the original trilogy in my opinion. It doesn't have as good of a soundtrack as SOR2, but the gameplay is perfected here. Of course SOR2 is still good though. SOR4 is an amazing modern beat em up that set the bar really high! Just wish the characters could run!
I really enjoyed SOR3. The only thing I don't like is the stage with those rolling carts. It has been a few years since I have played through SOR2 so I am not sure right now which I like better. There were some other people commenting that they don't like the third game and I don't really see why. I like that it's difficult, has lots of moves and unlockable characters.
@@mikematei Fully agreed! Not sure why people don't like SOR3. My guess is the soundtrack is a bit of an acquired taste. I think it would be worth your time to play Bare Knuckle 3 again on Hard so you can spot the differences. Make sure to find an English translation rom. Not that you really read the story in the American version, but BK3 story is darker for sure. Plus I think the colors look a little better too.

USA Streets of Rage 3 is very dificult, but that's the main reason I like it more than the JPN version when it comes to the challenge (other than that, the JPN version is better for me to play overall), nowdays I doubt I can beat the game on Hard, let alone in Normal using every single stuff the game gives you without relying on stuff like Shiva's reverse attack that results in infinites against the normal mobs, but in the JPN version I had to use a hacked version that adds the Mania difficulty to have a good challenge without being too hard like the USA release and too easy like the JPN version without the difficulty added.

The Streets of Rage Remake is pretty cool if you like the series. It has all of the locations from the first 3 games and Shiva has a full move set and can pick up weapons.

If you dont hit roo during the boss fight you can pick him when you continue too

3 is great, obviously. I just can't get over how much slower 4 is by comparison. I was playing 4 last night and something just feels off about it, and not just because it doesn't have dodging and dashing. Because those are glaring omissions and i think they hurt 4 overall. It's a step back to remove stuff and then not even play as well as 2. I dunno maybe it's all in my head.
Yeah I feel like 4 took steps back instead of taking steps forward. The aesthetics of the game were too anime and not gritty as it always has been in the first three. I think the game is fine but I feel like it could have been so much better.
Wow. You might be the only person who likes Skate ⛸ as a playable character. He is unique though has a lot of limits with his range and power and ability to take damage.
Honestly, I like using Skate in SOR3, I managed to 1CC this game with that character.

I’m in the minority, as I prefer this one over SoR 2. I like the difficulty spike and extreme music.
SOR3 has some improved gameplay elements but it cant touch the visual, music, and level design of SoR 2.
Mike, check out the zelda 2 hack, winter soltice!!! Its a bad ass hack i think u would enjoy. Its balls Hard but its awesome!!!

Soundtrack obviously isnt as good as the first 2 but the gameplay I always found to be better.

Right off the bat, way too dependent on the specials. They were nerfed in this game because they made them more usable. Outside off bosses, the name of the game in Streets of Rage is grabbing oppenents and throwing them into a group of enemies to knock them all down. Just evading constantly and waiting on your special to recharge over and over is sloppy.
Man i love you and james a lot but you guys just always seem to miss all sort of visual hints in every single game i see you guys play, for that cart part you said you hate it the screen shaked on where the cart was supposed to be coming but you just didn't pay attention, also wow and people said this game is better than Streets of Rage 4, not in a million years it isn't.
