Plot:
The story is set during the late 21XX. The Reploid rebellions across the past years continue, seemingly with no possible solution. To escape these troubles, mankind has begun the next generation of research and development by constructing an orbital elevator able to take equipment and handwork to the moon which they seek to colonize. This operation is labeled as the "Jakob Project", with the orbital elevator bearing its name, and a Reploid named Lumine is placed in charge of the project.
As another part of the project, an advanced generation of Reploids is dispatched to the moon surface in order to work on the project. These New Generation Reploids are able to use DNA data to change their shapes. They are the perfect workers because they can change their shape according to a task, and have subroutines built in to prevent them from going Maverick. (In Mega Man X7, it was revealed that Axl is the first of his kind, a prototype next-generation Reploid.)
Everything seems to be running smoothly until Vile, who has apparently been resurrected from his earlier defeat in Mega Man X3, kidnaps Lumine for unknown reasons.

This is my favorite cutscene in the game. It shows that:
1. X still feels the same pain about Reploids fighting Reploids like he did in X7, but has grown as a person and knows that fighting is sometimes the only way, and that he must fight for the sake of the world.
2. Axl has matured a bit and has the resolve and drive to fight for the hunter's cause.
3. While a bit more brash that Alia would like him to be, Axl is good at getting his point across, and even X can see the logic behind what he says and agrees with him.
4. In what little time he has been associated with them, Axl has become a fully fledged maverick hunter and has earned the respect and trust of both X and Zero, with X's trust being displayed in this cutscene.
It really goes to show how much the maverick hunters we know and love have grown as characters since X7, and that is important for a new title in any ongoing video game series.

This one has got to be the best. ZXA also has cool voice acting in it too. Axl sounds way better than he did in X7.

The in game character design is awful I see why it failed.
What kind of cocaine were you on while writing this comment? The X8 art style is pretty lit.
@@joshgauve9044 I mean it's alright, but I'm more fond of the art styles from X1-X7 as this one is too different from the rest of the X series. I'm fine with the character designs, though, since it's probably just the maverick hunters upgrading their bodies. This is probably why Zero looks so different from his X counterpart in his MMZ body.
