Developers being this open and enthusiastic about the games they are working on feels like such a rarity these days. I love everything about this interview.
That took a lot of courage to ask questions about the concerns of the community in order to improve the game rather than just asking about what you are most excited about. That said I still think this is going to be my favorite entry yet, which is saying a lot because world is so dang good.
I was there to represent the concerns of the community and I take that role quite seriously.
@rurikhan Thank you. I really appreciate the question about the hunting simulation aspects of the series as that's really important to me, but a concern I feel has been drowned out by the influx of newcomers to the series. Wasn't exactly thrilled with their answer but I'm glad Tokuda said he thinks it's important.
Yeah mad respect for not just giving them super easy questions, I'm also not to keen on them making it less about preparation but I'm glad you brought it up.

you can see how exited they are to talk about the game when they answered these questions and gave super in depth answers
what it sounds like to me, the shelling levels might now be some kind of multiplier that multiplies off of raw damage, and higher shelling levels might be a higher multiplier so a super high raw gunlance with low shelling level could be comparable to a low raw high shelling level gunlance. or at least thats how i interpreted it
@@baelGIGAN In the demo having the hunting horn attack buff actually increased the shelling damage so yeah, really looking forward to this.
The production quality on this video is at a professional level. If someone told me this was official capcom marketing, I would believe them.
This is phenomenally well put together and the questions are leagues better than what recent journalism has been like in the gaming industry space. I found this interview very interesting.
As I recently started my TH-cam journey myself, I understand how difficult and time consuming editing can be, and have developed a new found respect for video making.

I'm not gonna lie, I really, really liked this interview. The questions Ruri asked were arguably difficult ones that could easily cause animosity. I'm glad he asked them and the devs answered back respectfully and with enough clarification. Thank you Ruri!

Tokuda-san really shines in the MH Wilds dev team. It’s very rare to see a developer who is not only extremely up to date and invested in community concerns and ongoings, but also enjoys creating and playing his game very much (as was visibly apparent in the Gamescom livestreams). The game for sure will not release until that man is fully satisfied, so I think we are in very capable and safe hands.
So glad you got the honor of interviewing the team. They seem so passionate about the game! Must've been a great feeling to get this off your bucket list

Learning that Fujioka is a Lance main kinda gives me peace of mind - at least, my Lance will always be part of MH. 😂 I already knew Ryozo was a Hammer bro, so that’s been settled for a long time.

To be fair I think the hunting horn balance strategy is to just have the songs active for less time. If you constantly have to swap out of HH for upkeep, at that point you're better off just actually using the horn as a primary, yknow?

That's something I really care about and something I know game journalists who don't understand the series on the same level as us fans will ever ask. Absolutely feel these questions are representating us.
Glad to hear they still think the hunting simulation aspects are important, but kinda sad they're also wanting to push down a lot of their importance so it doesn't it get in the way of the combat. I kinda think they need to get in the way of the combat in order to truly feel important or that they matter. Sounds like they're reworking the temperature management system, though, which is really interesting. Hopefully, it's not just the chili ingredient we saw in the demo and has some depth to it.

This interview was as well done as the hunter's steaks! Seriously though, Ruri did a great job, considering the time limit, language barrier, and question selection. It is really cool to see some of the top level developers talking about their game, you can tell they care a lot about delivering a quality game for their player community.

Any word on the lobby size? Based on the seamless transition between the town and the wilderness it seems like it's going to be four player lobbies. It would be pretty cool to have a traditional Gathering Hub with a player count of 16 though

Does the hunt or capture question imply that the drop table is the same regardles of wether you do one or the other again?
Cuz I really prefer the drop tables being different and the hunter's notes showing all the proper data rather than having the stars that barely indicate anything from World, like, there's no difference between a drop that's a 1% and a drop that's a 5% they are both just 1 star for "Rare"

Thanks for posting! 2:45 is really disappointing for me to hear. Gathering and item management is one of the core parts of MH's identity in my opinion and was another thing that differentiated it from other action games. There were times where gathering items was just as important to your hunt as building your armor/weapon set, and could in fact contribute to the "hunting action" he is talking about.
I introduced a friend to World, and midway through our playthrough together he asked why Antidotes exist when Herbal Medicine is a thing. It made me realize just how easy Herbal Medicines were to make and that Antidotes were basically just a stepping stone instead of a budget option.
In my playthrough of FU recently I chose to spend the time to gather the ingredients (specifically Cactus Flowers, not rare in the Desert but they couldn't be farmed) to bring them against HR Chameleos, and it made me feel more confident going in to fight him for the first time in that game. I also created a set with Anti-Theft just to counter him, which is something I don't think I had ever done before in other MH games.
Sometimes friction in games is good, and having slow parts of the ride can make the fast parts seem even faster. Obviously I'm still excited for Wilds and this is a small issue, but if what they're saying is true then I'm gonna miss that pillar of the game.
KUDOS to you man, not only got to make a great interview, but also made really tough questions that nobody seems to be bold enough to ask.

I’d take it as them still figuring it out or it’s story spoiler. If it’s pure RNG they would just flat out say it, if it’s pure crafting they would flat out say it, but if they are trying to balance RNG and certainty or if the deco crafting is related to the final boss, they won’t say it
@@KhangNguyen-ij4xh There's no spoiler in saying wether it's RNG based or craftable though. No need to say more than that. If they're still figuring it out, which I honestly doubt at this stage of development, it does not bode well either. It probably means it won't be a simple as being craftable, as it used to be. I don't like this at all. I hope they prove me wrong.

I greatly enjoy how honest they are, they don't beat around the bush with you even when it comes to details they aren't ready to release yet or don't plan to for us to find out ourselves like the Monster Reveal question. Also, *BONK IS LIFE* haha I love that man xD. I do wonder how they are going to address the Hunting Horn Buff issue, the only two ways I can think of to make it balanced is either A: Don't let the buffs last if they swap off from Horn, or B: The time limits is much shorter if you swapped off Horn.

This is so good. As a player who's really familiar with the games, you can just ask questions that are so much more interesting for others who're deep into it, as opposed to some interviews that just repeat surface level stuff about the general vision of the game

I'm all in for the return of the prowler, but I get that it doesn't work when the story is focused around the actions of the hunter. It's just plain difficult to swap a human hunter for a feline one.
That said, I wonder if there's a way to incorporate the prowler as a post-game addition? Like you can use it as a bonus, but can't for any story mission unless if its to assist another player?

In today’s world, I see P2W all the time in single player games, so yes, I will celebrate Monster Hunter remaining reasonable amidst all the other crap.

Very nice interview. You can tell the devs love to answer these in-depth, specific questions because, let's face it, the useless mainstream-media would never come up with such relevant questions even if their livelihood depended on it...which it should.
This is how the devs and communities should interact. Respectfully on both sides. Constructive criticism and understanding the friction points of vision vs desires.

A great professional level quality interview with all the editing and such. Glad Ruri actually asked questions the older core community of the series had concerns with instead of just hyping up the new thing with non substantive questions typical of a newcomer or some jounro with little perspective on the series.
Not happy about their answer of continuing the Rise trend with paid dlc layered armor and weapons though.
