For everyone that keeps asking this aired September 8, 1973 this was one of the last episodes before the set change and the introduction of the TSOP theme
We worked our frustrations out on the dance floor back then...Godfather of Soul James Brown would make you blow your back out jamming to his funky good music❤❤❤
omg Maceo on the flute!!!... Rare footage of Lyn too. never ever seen that video. You got some gold on your channel man.. congrats! never erase that one!
I've never seen this Performance before!!!Unfortnately Mr. Brown is missing in the video but The J.B.'s and Lyn Collins are so strong here!!!Super Funky Rare Stuff, I wish to find more Mr. Brown's 1972 and 1973 Video Recordings...Thank You so much Soul On Top!!!👍👍👍💓💓💓🎶🎶🎶
@@SoulOnTopJB well at least you actually bother to post stuff. All these so called collectors who hoard footage of him should be ashamed, why have it if no one gets to see it but themselves.
Brown had the BEST...Fred Wesley on Trombone, Maceo Parker on Sax, Bobby Bird, and John Starks on drums. Starks is playing drums on, I GOT THE FEELIN. and Fred Wesly did those horn arrangements on the SOS band #1 hit. TAKE YOUR TIME.
What live songs are performed besides these two and the over dubbed Sly Slick and Wicked? You could send it this way, I'll take the heat from the defunct Soul Train Production crew 😁
There's not a doubt in my mind that James Brown told Fred, Lyn, Maceo and all the others that they just didn't cut it without him. James Brown always felt that he had to be in the room in order for his band to be on point. He had them re-record "The Popcorn" after a show in Dallas because their recorded takes -- without him -- lacked something.
😄 They certainly didn't produce the same music when he wasn't around, either within the JB fold or after they had left, the only possible exception would be Maceo's first LP
Oh man, i wish the quality of the Video was better. The cuts and sound effects make it hard to watch this super funky and never seen before performance
I dont speak inghis more or less mor or less..lessv less i m have 55 years muito bom o som songs 70 .80 .90 .94 ..Black..funk ..congratulaitions. Parabens
Thank you, soul on top.i’m glad i never knew this existed and i missed it😢I would of been looking for this forever.thanks that you and TH-cam came along😀
Let me see if I can name these cats to the best of my ability. On Tenor Saxophone is St. Clair Pinckney, on Alto Saxophone is Maceo Parker on Trombone in which he calls the "Soul Sister" is Fred Wesley, on rhythm guitar on the left is Hearlon "Cheese" Martin and on the right is Jimmy "Chank" Nolan, I believe on bass on the left is "Sweet" Charles Sherrell and on the right is Fred Thomas, on lead drums is John "Jabo" Starks, on the other is John Morgan, on congas/percussion is Johnny Griggs, now here's the tricky part; I believe the trumpeter with the mustache on the left is Jerone "Jasaan" Sanford and the cat next to him has to be either Ike Oakley or Russell Crimes.
You did it!....I hear you had to chop it and loop parts with some skippin' in the song but you did your thang.....Glad we got together for this rare occasion! I got something new.....email me later.
Wow!! That's wonderful. Thank you for sharing. Phew!! Did anyone manage to find a recording of "Maceo & The Macks - Cross the tracks" which also appeared on Soul Train? The band and track was listed as performing, was it ever airied? Recorded? Thanks for any info?
Does anyone have the entire footage of James Brown from the TV show In Concert that Dick Clark on the ABC NETWORK. MR BROWN did FUNKY PRESIDENT and it was the 💣!! It was sho nuff FUNKY!

From then on you could tell the show started to embrace early forms of pop and disco music. I loved the early R&B years
Has an echo! Like it
🕺🏾❤️🕺🏾❤️🕺🏾❤️
One of the funkiest hits ever! The lil horn 🎺🪈

Naw man! Lyn is FINE AS HELL!
Happiness is listening to Fred Wesley blow his horn.
Trombone never sounded so good 😎
Pure funk, extremely funk, outrageous funk. Funkier than an unwashed armpit. The JBs was just as funky as chitlins.
Listen to that music and groove !!
Wow !! just perfect
And the singers adjusted to the absent James with zero compromise
Perfect

Doing it to death rocked many Rent parties in the 70s. The long version was on the album. But an even longer one was on the jbs anthology.

Clyde Stubblefield was the drummer on I Got The Feeling!
Wow! Never saw this performance on Soul Train! Always thought it was only two shows they appeared on. Thanks again!
James Brown was on Soul Train many times 👍
Fred Wesley appeared on here as a solo act shortly after he left The J.B.'s.

I have this whole show. I would post it, but I don’t want Soul Train Productions coming after me, though! 🤣

@@SoulOnTopJB They did “Watergate….,” “Doing It To Death,” “Gimme Some More” and Lyn Collins did “Take Me As I Am”.

OMG
First song was samples for one of my favorite Dela Soul songs lol. Incredible musicians. Fred Wesley is an amazing man and musician
Rap group N2 deep from Vallejo known for back to the hotel sampled Watergate for their song n 2 deep.

Very good, I'd go for Ike Oakley next to Jasaan 👍
Definitely Ike Oakley and Jasaan. Russell Crimes and Darryl "Hasaan" Jamison played trumpet on the '74 episode.

Bad Cold maybe?
😂😂😂 nothing he just wanted the band jbs to shine in the spotlight on their own while he playing the background
Bad recording making Fred Wesley performance skip.
The band Looked loose JB kept everything robotic

Lot's of hiccups.
Better than the original which had a ton of waffle all over it.
