That LBX has a really good powertrain, even though it's only a 1.5 liter inline 3, with 134hp, the engine response is really good. My brother test drove it with 4 adults in the car and 0 to 30mph was pretty good, the response from a standstill was good. Wish they brought that to the USA.
@jeanlucbergman479 I used to think like you. But in the country we are in you just can't even reach 50kph with all the traffic in the city. Most city roads have a speed limit of 80kph max. That car is actually a good size for the city he is in. By the way the 0 to 100kph on that car is 9.2sec.
I hope they give it the v6 multistage hybrid system found in the LC500h and LS. That would make it almost as fast as the v8 and fuel efficient as an i4. Even better is if they put dynamic force technology in their NA v6 but that will not happen.
Ehhh. I personally think the IS would have a better chance competing with the M340i if equipped with the V35 and 10AT. But, it would need improvements in shift times, throttle response, turbo lag, and the AWD system in order to go toe to toe with the B58.
Lexus engines normally have a slight power increase than toyotas even though they're the same motor. The 2025 camry hybrid makes 232 hp. The crown makes 236. A new lexus with the same motor my guess will be anywhere between 240 to 255 hp. And instant torque. Not bad! Some people have driven a hybrid once years ago and think thats how they all feel. The've gotten quicker and feel torquey now.
Glad I found this video. I heard there was a refresh. I was hoping some changes to the interior. The front end is already nice. I dont like that bar thing. It looks like a Toyota. I may just go ahead and buy a 24 IS500. I bet if they drop the 350 the 500 will see a price increase.
That front end is so much worse… less line flow and the last one is perfect as is! The new one already looks old and looks like something Lincoln or Honda could make with that mustache-like grill bar across the front. Not a fan at all. Edit: they didn’t need to do anything to make it look wider, the front end was perfectly balanced. As someone who studied automotive design, this is a step backwards and it loses identity. If they are trying to make a new front end identity, this is not good execution and they should wait until they redesign the whole car
100% looks like a Honda, not even sure this document is real it looks like they slapped a Lexus badge on a civic and told an AI to make very small changes along with it.. Like you said, already looks great and the problem here is the transmission and the interior.
I was very surprised they don't sell the hybrid here. This could work if they offered the new hybrid with a refreshed interior and exterior like the Camry. Youd get a significant freaking jump in fuel economy... Which I think is currently it's Achilles heel right now. The design looks good. It just feels like the tech is outdated in the current car
Kirk, after watching this video it made me decide to bite the bullet! You made me do it! I love the current grill design, so damn aggressive, so LEXUS!!! I have always loved the IS250/350/500. Last week, Friday, I drove to Lexus of Tampa Bay. I found a IS350 F-Sport that I loved. Of course, I didn't tell the salesman that. Test drive, arrived at a fair trade-in value and OTD price, it was mine! I am very pleased with the car. I know it's not as fast as an M2, but it's not slow either. I've owned a TRD Camry with that 3.5 V6 and loved its power and reliability as well, but damn my new car looks and drives and handles so incredibly well. Break-in period is a bitch, but worth delaying gratification for long-term reliability and performance gain. I don't want that newly Toyota derived 4-cylinder engine. Thankyou Kirk for sharing and helping me to decide to buy the 2024 model instead of the refreshed version.
Maybe when the 2026 model comes out, the prices of preowned 2021-2025 models will go down and I'll be able to trade in my 2018 for a good price. IMO that design is it.
I been said they need to slim down the Lexus grill and make it a 2 peice front bumper. But I agree Lexus grill is one of the best looking. Keep the lights the front lights on Lexus are great and keep the Lexus logo on the back
exterior looks timeless. it’s still gonna look modern in 2030 but interior still has that “let’s throw in an ipad as an afterthought” look and hope they don’t change the power train at least until after i get my hands on one :)
This isn't even allowed to be sold in some countries anymore (Australia) because the platform doesn't meet new side impact safety requirements. Unless they're changing the platform, only a few markets like the US and Japan are getting it.
Bump the quality of the interior, maybe don't go crazy on the technology. Personally, the material choices and fit and finish of the vehicle is more important to me than the latest gadgets. I can't stand on some cars the use of cheap materials everywhere. Also, I'd love to see the rwd drive stay and the v6 or v8! I love that torque!
The lower render is same as top.. no change to hood or lights, it is a render.. but all they did was take the top image and shop the center grill. Both look amazing IMO
So would they be replacing the IS 300 and the IS 350 with this new hybrid system and retaining the V8? Also they shouldn't waste the time with a 3rd refresh unless the interior (at minimum) gets USB-C ports for data and charging, the new interface software, and that new all digital gauge cluster that they were just able to shoehorn into the 2025 UX.
Hear me out about the RX. As someone who has been the biggest RX fan since 2004, it took me quite sometime to start liking this redesign. I like it, but I hope when Lexus gives this thing a facelift, They’ll make some changes to the front end (nose). Fix those tough sensitive buttons on the steering wheel, add that new gauge cluster, give it the UX/LC steering wheel, make PALOMINO F-sport seats, bring back CIRCUIT RED Fsport seats. bring back regular fuel across all engines (87 octane), give more colour options across luxury/FSPORT MODELS. and make the f-sport 350H. Those are a few changes I want to see and maybe a few more to enhance that styling and comfort. I'm still the biggest Lexus fan!
Haha, these vehicles and any midlife changes are designed before we even know about them. It's only waiting at this point, so it's past tense really. We can only hope anything designed before now looks good when it comes out over the next year.
Can someone tell me in technical terms how the IS does not meet the Australian standard ? Where does it fall short? It is a pity to me that the IS is not available in Australia. And now even the revise model is not going to Aus. How sad.
Just make it a V8 that can electronically change to v6 our v4 in tandem with a hybrid, based on t he made you select track sport city highway luxury handling range sound etc., best of all worlds. Hybrid Super MAX V8 and use this for trucks as well. And call it a day.
the Lexus IS is the only Lexus (and only luxury car on the entire market) I have a soft spot for. Refresh is alright I suppose, but I think I prefer the current one. A 2.5 hybrid should be a decent base-model engine, but I'd love a much more racier hybrid engine option too (or heck PHEV could be really interesting). I won't wish for a manual because I know it's a fool's errand, although I still lust over the earliest Altezza Sport Cross with a manual and 2.0 inline-6. Toyota would widely benefit from a Toyota version of the IS (rear-drive).
I love the current styling. What it needs is a new interior. The IS is meant to have the v6 and v8. Fine to have a hybrid option but keep the naturally aspirated v6.
A 350h IS will probably be as fast at least as the V6 300. I have the 300h from 2017 and it's a great car, could do with more power, very quick off the line and good in-gear acceleration, amazing fuel economy and still fun to drive with a great ride. Lexus however made a huge mistake discontinuing the IS300h from the UK market as they sold quite well and you see lots of them around, even the dealerships were scratching their heads why they did it, made no sense, but I've heard it's coming back and this could be it! This new 2.5L multi-stage system is basically the LC500h's engine/transmission downgraded to a 4 cylinder, so should be pretty quick!
That turbo 4 hybrid better be a damn good turbo 4 considering how heavy the cars are. Very wise move too keep the v8 for the is500 but they could’ve worked in a supercharger or a atlesst a power bump. The 3.5 v6 is thier best engine

Relatively underpowered and if you're going to go more of a base trim, a turbo 4 really makes more sense.
Put the lc500 drivetrain in the IS500 already.
I think the IS could only receive new powertrains if it's finally given an all-new platform. Current model couldn't even be fitted with the 8-speed in AWD trim due to packaging constraints.
@@paulbugoni2846 They'd probably have to change the transmission tunnel and retest the car for crash testing, noise, fuel economy and emissions so that probably won't happen
@@paulbugoni2846that power train is too big. The 10 speed is a bulkier transmission vs the 8 speed. An IS500 with a ZF8 would be awesome.
Nope. dont like that update. The current one looks so good! If they want to refresh anything, work on the interior!
As an owner of a 2016 IS 300, I desperately want an IS500
Lexus on the back is neither here nor there for me, but the blade on the front is just tacked on looking and doesn't add anything. Looks perfect now.
IS 500 will be my next upgrade full spec! It seems the way to go for the immediate future which will keep its essence intact
Thanks for the update, Kirk! I still can’t believe we still haven’t heard any updates about the “F” division. 😅
Such a shame that the only true performance F offering since the death of the GSF is the IS500 FSP. Everything else was just a dilution of the F badge.
@@naveenthemachineYou’re just commenting unnecessary negativity on every reply? “They can’t compete” the ISF for its time had the first ever 8 spd, one of the fastest-shifting autos in its time, and RCF literally wins gt3 races?
@@colbyowens22 but that was 2008… this is 2024

lack of hybrid option was the only thing holding me back from getting the current gen IS300. This is great news
That LBX has a really good powertrain, even though it's only a 1.5 liter inline 3, with 134hp, the engine response is really good. My brother test drove it with 4 adults in the car and 0 to 30mph was pretty good, the response from a standstill was good. Wish they brought that to the USA.
Is this a real comment?
0 to 100km/h in 10 seconds.
My God what a joke LMFAO
@jeanlucbergman479 I used to think like you. But in the country we are in you just can't even reach 50kph with all the traffic in the city. Most city roads have a speed limit of 80kph max. That car is actually a good size for the city he is in. By the way the 0 to 100kph on that car is 9.2sec.
I hope they give it the v6 multistage hybrid system found in the LC500h and LS. That would make it almost as fast as the v8 and fuel efficient as an i4. Even better is if they put dynamic force technology in their NA v6 but that will not happen.
I love the Yellow 💛 & Orange 🧡 and LEXUS print (Rear). Please 🙏 Keep the V-6😮❤. Hybrid (maybe) RWD.😊
This really makes me want the LBX to come to US even more. IS should get a complete makeover. Especially the interior.
No a total redesign from the wheels up. It's had many makeovers now.
they should install the 2.4l turbo hybrid + 8 speed of the land cruiser prado and tacoma. That will give M340i a run for its money me think
Ehhh. I personally think the IS would have a better chance competing with the M340i if equipped with the V35 and 10AT. But, it would need improvements in shift times, throttle response, turbo lag, and the AWD system in order to go toe to toe with the B58.
U would need a v6 hybrid to compete with bmw and Mercedes with 370hp
Lexus engines normally have a slight power increase than toyotas even though they're the same motor. The 2025 camry hybrid makes 232 hp. The crown makes 236. A new lexus with the same motor my guess will be anywhere between 240 to 255 hp. And instant torque. Not bad! Some people have driven a hybrid once years ago and think thats how they all feel. The've gotten quicker and feel torquey now.
All-wheel drive Camry makes 236.
The new Camry has oomph. It makes the new Lexus a decent prospect if it can power the heavier car
I'm happy that the lexus IS can catch up with the BMW and Audi A4
@naveenthemachine, bruh, you still here ? watching a video just to shit about toyota/lexus getting lil old now
@@naveenthemachinethat old IS outsells the soon to be discontinued G70 like 4 to one lol
A4 is not the benchmark the C class is, in fact IS is able to outsell A4 3 to 1
Glad I found this video.
But the hybrid wouldn’t be that good to drive and it would have a CVT. And the performance would still be lackluster vs the competition
Lexus should definitely consider a hybrid IS with similar output as seen in the NX and RX.
@@mark_u so only 240hp…? 😂
And it’ll be very slow and boring to drive with a CVT? Yeah okay 🤣😆
@@naveenthemachine As if Mercedes-Benz and BMW don't offer the C and 3 with engines less than 250 hp 😂
They need to update the interior and backseat room
good bless lexus for keeping the is500 PLEASE UPDATE THE INTERIOR
unless im wrong of the 21 and up is is a 4th gen not 3rd correct?
They should use the LBX taillights on the IS - looks better
Maybe when the 2026 model comes out, the prices of preowned 2021-2025 models will go down and I'll be able to trade in my 2018 for a good price. IMO that design is it.
I haven't upgraded my 2014 to a 2024 solely because the interior is EXACTLY the same lol so frustrating
Lexus needs to focus on its vehicles being distinguishable from its Toyota counterparts. Which the the 21’+ IS does a good job of currently
IS gannnnnng🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉💯💯💪
Sweet, my favorite lexus
I been said they need to slim down the Lexus grill and make it a 2 peice front bumper. But I agree Lexus grill is one of the best looking. Keep the lights the front lights on Lexus are great and keep the Lexus logo on the back
It seems the TX shares similar DNA with the LBX.
Yes, very true. Both were designed at the same time in 2020, yet they're sold in opposite markets.
exterior looks timeless. it’s still gonna look modern in 2030
but interior still has that “let’s throw in an ipad as an afterthought” look
and hope they don’t change the power train at least until after i get my hands on one :)
Can we get an AWD IS 500?
the RX looks so good... ...from the back
Pity that schnoz... LBX transplant, stat!
Any new updates on this IS?
Great video Kirk!
I just want the is500 and I know they will be hard to find used when I can buy one in a year or two. So hoping they make it for another few years
This isn't even allowed to be sold in some countries anymore (Australia) because the platform doesn't meet new side impact safety requirements. Unless they're changing the platform, only a few markets like the US and Japan are getting it.
Even more reasons why Lexus needs an ALL-NEW model. The current IS is so outdated, Lexus couldn't even fit the 8-speed AT in AWD models 🤦🏽♂️
You can always tell when Naveen is near, when the replies are above average for a comment 😅 👀👀
Naveen Krishnamurthy is a sad boy, both in person and online. Don't ask me how I know...
@@nwezetx1 😅 Feel sorry for you
Bump the quality of the interior, maybe don't go crazy on the technology. Personally, the material choices and fit and finish of the vehicle is more important to me than the latest gadgets. I can't stand on some cars the use of cheap materials everywhere. Also, I'd love to see the rwd drive stay and the v6 or v8! I love that torque!
Any updates on the Stout? FJ Mini Landcruiser?
The LBX looks amazing and was looking at one but I got in to the drivers seat and at 6´3 I could not get the seat in a good driving position...
V8 refresh with a modern/intuitive/buttons interior please!!!
The LS is what needs a major makeover or refresh at best.
A refresh =/= a new generation. LS is in trouble FYI. On ice.
Current update is on point that thing looks like a Camry/Prius
Do you think another LS refresh/redesign is due? I’d like to see it get similar level of changes the Camry just got. Maybe even LS turbo hybrid
LS updates are on hold...
Please give the IS500 the 10 speed from the LC 🙏
I almost purchased a is500...I will definitely wait now lol
They’re going to kill the V8. I wouldn’t wait past 2025
@@clays1507do you know if the 25 will get an updated interior?

oooooh im excited!!!!
Can someone tell me in technical terms how the IS does not meet the Australian standard ? Where does it fall short? It is a pity to me that the IS is not available in Australia. And now even the revise model is not going to Aus. How sad.
The 2.5 turbo is probably from the RX500h, so I guess the power will be same i.e. 360 hp, similar to a V6
Not even mentioned...
Just make it a V8 that can electronically change to v6 our v4 in tandem with a hybrid, based on t he made you select track sport city highway luxury handling range sound etc., best of all worlds.
Hybrid Super MAX V8 and use this for trucks as well.
And call it a day.
Please Lexus - don’t go with the tacky Lexus spelling across the tail. Keep the classy logo.
Your wish is making no difference. That decision was made in 2020.
I thought it’s going to have a BEV edition in 2026 with Toyota’s new electric vehicle architecture?
That vehicle must have been quietly canceled last year in favor of this last minute update.
So does this mean the value of the v6 IS’s would go up 😳 or do you think it wouldn’t change much if discontinued ?
The grill in my opinion makes the care, you know it’s a Lexus, I love the spindle grill.
the Lexus IS is the only Lexus (and only luxury car on the entire market) I have a soft spot for.
I ain't feeling new grill with that line in the bumper
I love the current styling. What it needs is a new interior. The IS is meant to have the v6 and v8. Fine to have a hybrid option but keep the naturally aspirated v6.
The old grille looks better imo...and for the written out Lexus on rear..maybe offer option for black lettering instead of chrome
can someone explain it to me why so many good engines are getting canceled? what's up with that 4 cylinder hybrid fever?
LBX-Morizo could’ve give John Cooper-Clubman a run for its money
Bring Nori Green Pearl to the IS…
Nah that looks way worse. The current IS is perfect just needs better interior but it's not a problem for me.
The current design is beautiful
IS wagon 🔥🔥🔥
