The West Highland Way - Part 1

  • In April 2022 I hiked the popular West Highland Way, (wild)camping along the way. This is part 1 of 2 of this adventure.
    The West Highland Way starts in Milngavie and finishes in Fort William. I was incredibly lucky with the best weather I could have expected. The scenery along the path is extremely beautiful and offered some of the best wildcamping spots I have ever had. Since I walked the path in April, it was not yet as busy as I believe May can be, and I cannot wait to return to the Scottish Highlands soon.

    Hi, Lianne! It was a nice video and an interesting start of this trail. It seems you didn't have any problems with midges, did you? What time of the year was it? We admire your calm and relaxed way to meet all the challenges.
    Cheers, Christiane and Werner

      Thank for your lovely comment! No, there were no midges at all. I walked at the end of April, when usually there are not many midges yet.

    I tried climbing Conic Hill from Balmaha. Those big steps put the fear of god in me. I started to panic, so I headed back down after only going part of the way up. There has been a lot of work done on those steps since, so I might have to go back and have another attempt.

    • @lianne.o
      @lianne.o  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, those steps were horrible. Coming up from the other side was longer but much better on the knees.

      @@lianne.o They have done a lot of work on them since I was last there. I am tempted to have a look them to see if I could cope with them now, without having a panic. If not, I know that I can part in the Forestry Scotland car park on the Drymen side, and walk along the West Highland Way from there.

    Great video👍👍👍, do you have a name for the place you camped at at 10:30 I'm just trying to get an idea for some places to camp when i do the WHW in May... Thank you.

      @lianne.o  ปีที่แล้ว

      On google maps this place is indicated as: Lochan Maoil Dhuinne. But you should easily be able to find this camping permit area on the Loch Lemond official website.

    Hey, I am really curious about the last wildcampspot you used in your video. Would appreciate it if you could share the (rough) location 😄

    • @lianne.o
      @lianne.o  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, that last campspot was just before Forest Lodge near Loch Tulla. There is a bridge there (where several people camped right next to) and I walked a little upstream to the edge of the woods. It was not far, not more than 200 meters, as you can clearly see that bridge in the video. So, you are planning to walk the West Highland Way?
