this situation is common in all wedding ceremonies, the moment of departure is heart rendring , I have seen some parents literally faint due to excessive crying and emotional trauma of seperation of a familial relatiin.the level of crying varies but there is always too much sadness during this period , Tears just doesnt stop for hours and it takes multiple days to restore normalcy for some families.
Though again it depends on the level of attachment btw the daughter and her family, and sometimes I have also seen some families trying to cry(and unable to) since in this world of connectivity the seperation pain is reduced considerably since you are away just on the click of a button. But definitely it is a very solemn ceremony

It is called a Bidai (sendoff) song. From the beginning of the movie, till this song, nothing is serious...it's just fun and celebration. This is the first moment where the characters and the situation are serious.Thats why they didn't use Lata Mangeshkar's voice i think,to give a more raw feel to the situation. And about the situation - In India, it is not only the marriage between the two people but in their families too. The girl lives with her parents and siblings till her marriage and after marriage she lives with the entire family of her husband. Mother, father, his siblings etc.Similarly a Son lives with his parents his entire life, before and after his marriage. Ofcourse that scenario has been changing since the last 10-15 years though, especially in big cities like Mumbai,Delhi. But not in smaller towns and villages.

I remember I cried a lot on my sister's wedding vidai, it's a very emotional moment, your sister is leaving you and this home for a completely new family.

My mom-in-law cried at my bidai. In fact all the ladies from both sides were crying. It is quite common as everyone is reminded of their own bidai. I cannot explain, nobody can, how you feel when you reach a new strange house where there is a crowd and you don't see anyone familiar. You are busy doing rituals surrounded by strangers. In an arranged marriage like mine, it feels very peculiar. My mother- in-law said she cried everyday for a whole month after her daughter was married.

Guys, you should watch both the cut songs especially ...the "Choclate, lime-juice" one. You didn't get the meaning of that song. It portrays how the life of a girl changes as soon as she enters her teenage. From having interest in such sweets n all, it suddenly changes to something else ..which is somewhat difficult for her to conceive. That is what that song is all about !

This is more like a folk song. Traditional song and tune and the voice suits that

I think the reason they h've used a distinct voice here is b'coz this song is based on folk songs that women sing in weddings in rural India. Infact, lot of Bollywood songs used to h've this "folk interlude" sung by diff singers in b/w the songs up until 2010s.If I'm not wrong, Yash Chopra started this trend. Recently, I was happy to find out that one of the song in Brahmastra followed this thing.(at least in promotional vedioes) (as Dharma had discontinued doing this after Dostana album)

to make you relate... imagine the emotions that you will have if you have to leave your family behind in your own country and move to another country and establish yourself there. This is the closest you can come to relate to the emotions.

Jimmy, you should have watched Maine Pyaar Kiya (MPK) first before HAHK. MPK was the first successful venture by "the same team" except madhuri dixit, released 3-4 years before the second one, i.e. HAHK. In terms of winning people's hearts, MPK did much better, and its songs are still very popular. In fact, it was MPK that changed the filmmaking senario then, bringing in pure innocent love of young people. The craze was such that even the then prime minister also watched it. Not too many songs, more room for the story, and even much younger Salman Khan!

Such films, where true love of a young age is beautifully portrayed, always appeal to me a lot. The director (Barjatiya) and leading actors (Salman and Bhagyashree) were very young at that time. While Salman became an overnight star with MPK, Bhagyashree got married and left acting! S P Balasubramaniyam emerged as the "voice of Salman Khan" and became a hugely popular singer of the 90s

You seem to be a fan of Hrishida's (Hrishikesh Mukherjee) movies. So am I. I request you to review some of the masterpiece of his -Mili,Abhimaan, Alaap, Bemisaal and Jurmana. Each one is a masterpiece. And some exceptional performances from his favourite actor Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh did most number of his films with Hrishida than any other director and Hrishida worked with amitabh more than any other actor..9 films together...Out of which, these are the exceptional ones... Each is a true gem in its own way
