i would argue that Madlib vs J Dilla is something alike to Messi vs Cristiano of the beat making world. They are on par, in all seriousness, but they are ahead of each other in their respective lanes.

dilla blows my mind with this one. sample originally 6/8, but he makes 4 jump with that guitar hit. and that faint organ in the background is so damn smooth
Been listening to Dilla for time and i've only just found this. This is the beat i've been looking for in my whole life. Chill, warm, fuzzy and has a sax on it. This is just B.E.Autiful

@@Grandmaster_Vic Hey, at least you both still have some form of communication and have been in contact in recent times! Never know what can happen to a loved one during these times.
Fruity loops to start with....easy interface and as good as any DAW when you get good. Ableton is also nice for the same reasons and good for live too. Reason is good if you already have a good understanding of how to link up real life hardware or a decent way to learn about it. Cubase is nice for many things especially mastering/mixdown. If you're making money then pro tools is a thing but dependent on spending a fuck load on the actual hardware. Getting a 2nd hand MPC can't be underrated, find a jam, slice it up, hit buttons.
i was messing with ableton lite when i thought id give it a go. Then i got an SP404sx and went hard. im mostly about Hardware over software. but software definitly has its place. also got an MPC500 which is great, bt yea the 404 is really cool. especially if ur learnin man. Dilla even used one ( or something of the SP range) to make some of what became Donuts.
Mr Lahey Damn I envy all of you, I'm desperately in looking for a job so I can get a Maschine, I know how to use FL but I just can't make beats with a mouse and a keyboard..
get an SP404 fk the midi controllers. though Maschine one of the best for it/still gotta use the computer. if ya can get an old MPC thats standalone its perfect with SP, and still good alone hooked up with a turntable.
this is probably the most underrated dilla....when i think of a beat in the back of my head during my daily routine...its usually this beat or the purple beat. much love to james yancey
