- Today I'm taking the goats down to the river to forage and to talk about some of the plants I've found back there... if they will follow me! I'm also going to talk about some of the things going on or coming up with the renovation!

Hi Garden Friends, I'm Dani from Wicked Awesome Gardening
Welcome to my world of learning to garden. The desire to grow my own food has been within me my whole life and I never thought it possible in the places I have lived in. In recent years I have discovered that this is not the case and there are a million ways to grow no matter where you are!
Now a year into my TH-cam journey I have learned that even more of my dreams are possible! That I can have the little farm and grow my produce and meat and live so much more sustainably! Join me on this journey of my own education and you will definitely learn and be inspired along the way! Step into my waiting room, my classroom, as I transform my entire life along with my garden spaces!

I love your goats! It was nice walking down to the river and back! Great biodiversity which is always good. There are a number of different golden rod varieties. I have ones that grow to 4’ now fading. While I was clamming the was beach goldenrod that was just coming into bloom now and about 2-2.5’. Great video!
I realized I forgot to show the beautiful jewelweed I found back there too! I've got to get out and harvest a bunch of seeds for a friend. The leaves are amazing for poison ivy and her husband gets it really bad. They have tried eradicating it from their yard but it always comes back.
I found a pellet stove a pain in the butt to get started and deal with. The pellets were expensive when we needed them and that was 20 years ago. One of my homes had a Franklin stove, which had a broad top that was good for cooking on when the power went out, which it did often in the winter. I usually had a pan of water on it to combat the dry winter air. Don't know if that's an issue in your area. If it were me, I'd go for the wood stove and save up for gas heating in the future. You might even find one cheap at Goodwill or second hand stores. Also, ceiling fans that can be reversed are worth getting as they bring the warm ceiling air down when it is cold (on low) and when reversed cool your living spaces in summer. Good luck and keep up the good work. Aloha from Hawaii.
The thing is, if I have to leave the house for any length of time the fire dies and the house goes cold. I'll still be using the wood stove as much as I can but the pellet stove will be able to take over when the wood stove goes out in the night or when we are out for the day. :)
Hello, it’s been a while since I received your upload notification. I have missed a lot of your venture. Your goats look amazing. I must look to see what you have done.
Yeah, I took an "accidental" posting hiatus but this is 4 videos in a row that I've been back on a regular schedule for! 🥰 So glad to be back! All my recent videos have been fairly centered on the goat herd but there's a lot of other stuff coming up too!
I have a Lowes pellet stove and it's been great since 2008 and it was around the same price. Pellets in NH and Maine tend to be cheaper than in Mass and delivery of a ton is pretty cheap. My pellet stove heats my living room to uncomfortably hot. Getting some small fans for circulation makes a HUGE difference in getting the far rooms cozy. I will say that i've done a lot of maintenance on the stove over the years and it's been super easy to do, it's really very pull out the broken part and then install the new. Mine only have a 40lb hopper and I wish I'd gotten a larger hopper. The small hopper just barely holds a full bag, the larger will hold almost 2 full bags.
The one I'm looking to get it an 80lb hopper and covers up to 2000 sq ft (but my house is only 765 sq ft so the pellets should theoretically last longer???)
All your goats are so beautiful! I want to go there to pet them. 🥰
For the heating would a ductless heater/ AC be an option? Love seeing your updates and progress.
Unfortunately being such an old mobile home and the way the insulation is, the mini splits wouldn't be able to keep up as a primary heating source if it were to get REALLY cold here. I do plan to get some when I can just got the bedrooms since they can get a little chilly being on the ends. And that gives the bedrooms AC in the summer too! But I definitely need either a ductless propane system or a pellet stove to handle the whole house
Hahahha they were not sure what to think of the river, too funny. They're so stinking cute. so nice to see them just running around.
It was the biggest puddle they have ever seen!
100% that's what they thought. Very unnerving! 🤣
Yeah they got down the bank and we're like "WTF IS THIS??? NOPE!"
There are probably 3 to 5 varieties of goldenrod where you live. What is most fascinatinating is that the separate species release attraction scents for pollinators at different times of the day so that they are noncompetitive for pollination and EVERYBODY gets a share of the pollinators!
Yes! The goldenrod at the top of the property is already fading whereas the goldenrod down the back is just starting to bloom and show off! So beautiful!
I'd love to see some videos on how you build your enclosers, shelters, etc. We're starting our homestead buta little broke because the house we bought needed some TLC. Thanks!
Look back about two weeks! I did a video on how I build the pallet fences and gate! I'll be working on the buck shelter in a few weeks too and I'll be doing a video on it!
We also bought a fixer upper. We have the chickens and they just started laying 2 weeks ago Tuesday! We have 5 hens and a rooster. 3 of the hens are now laying! Next spring we want to add goats and rabbits for food and dairy! We are wanting to be as self sufficient as we can. We are currently building a small house (204 sq ft) Using as much repurposed material as we can. We were able to buy a New King No 26 wood stove for $10 it is small but free heat in the small house if the power goes out. We have raised beds and greenhouses and were gifted three large windows that we are going to use to enclose the back porch to have some plants in containers to extend their growing season! We are also planning on putting in water catchment! Like you we have to do one thing at a time!
Congrats on your homestead!
@rachaelsupadventures A small wood stove like that will definitely keep you cozy in a house that size!
Hi Dani! What a cool little adventure down to the river! Love your little goatie herd! Makes me miss our old place and animals (we had registered standard Alpines and LaMancha dairy goats). And all the barnyard riff-raff as welll...LOL! You are on a roll! Keep up the great work! Blessings on your family and your homestead Kiddo!🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕👵🥰
I never imagined I would love goats this much!
yes... they are addictive... absolutely adorable... 🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕👵🥰
Great you can take them down to the river and back with no problems
Yes! So excited to finally have the trail broken to be able to get back there! Next year I'll have to make sure to keep it open in early spring instead of letting it get grown in! It was a long sweaty bushwhack with a mini chainsaw to get down there in July!
@@WickedAwesomeGardening yes stay on top of the property it beautiful
Just a thought....take a pair of bolt cutters or a cordless cut off wheel and cut the panels in half so you can transport them home in your vehicle.
Ooo that's a good idea!
You are doing so great Dani! I am impressed! You need to release chickens on that path, so many crunchy insects flying on your camera would be great food for them.
They do occasionally follow me if I'm walking down there! But with all that brush they would be easy pickings for a fox!
So not water goats. So cute.
Yup, they thing they are made of sugar and will melt away! 🤣
A ventless split unit might serve you better thah a pellet stove.
I asked a couple HVAC installers and with the age of my mobile home and the way it's insulated, the mini splits wouldn't be able to keep up if it got down close to zero as the main heating source. I would like to do mini splits in the bedroom for more even heating and also for cooling in the summers though!
DON'T rent anything.... I know a guy with a truck and trailer. 😊 just let me know.
You might regret that! 🤣🤣🤣 I have a lot of stuff I want to haul. I need to find like 50 pallets for fencing, cabinets and counter tops, drywall, headboard, tub/shower surround. The list goes on! 🤣 I do compensate with gas pizza and beer though! 🤣
@@WickedAwesomeGardening I'll do what I can for ya!
If exercise and happy goats was your plan, then I think that you succeeded.
I was hoping they would do a little more munching, but I think I good time was had by all!
Wondering if Helena made it to you? Are you and yours okay?
@@maryhasse7161 We are up north in New Hampshire so our weather has been lovely! But I do have friends throughout GA and the Carolinas. Everyone is well in body but some had some very serious damage. :( I have a friend outside of Ashville with a damaged roof but all things considered it could have been much worse for her!
