Yes! Thank goodness for those tags!! Those are my favorite hips; the ones with deliberate crosses! Always fun and exciting to see what those seedlings will end up like!
Remember 'Rose Dude' apples and pears are most likely the most eaten or consumed 'rose hip' on earth! Remember that with you make a caramelized pear tartlet or granny's apple pie recipe. If you really want to get rose 'hippie' make a raspberry/apple cobbler for a fresh picked summer treat! Just 50/50 red or black raspberries 'black is my favorite' and thin sliced apples with the peel left on and slightly sauteed and just use your favorite cobbler instructions for some sugar, flour or cornstarch, and spices. Cinnamon goes great with every berry! You can substitute raspberries for, Marionberries, Dewberries, Boysenberries, Tayberries or just blackberries. All the other berries i mentioned are a certain cultivar of Blackberry crossed with a cultivar of a red Raspberry. In general, smaller seeds, more juice, less 'wangy' flavor 'sorry that how strong blackberries taste to me, they have a wang not smooth taste. Sadly no Blackberry x black Raspberries existe that i know of. I have seen a berry that looks have red and half black Raspberry and that looked very interesting, but we just don't have the room for them. SORRY R.D. for getting off topic! People even if you just find 1 ripe hip that you missed dead heading, give rose growing a try. Remember Johnny Appleseed!? HHMMM....Jeffy Roseseed....has a nice ring to it don't you think R.D.?
oooh, you're making me hungry for some apple & berry cobbler!!!! And you are absolutely correct. Even with deadheading, a lot of times a flower can be missed and a hip starts forming. If you want to try to grow roses from seed, would be a perfect time to use those hips!
If you want to learn how to grow roses from seed, make sure to watch my other videos!
Easy to follow thanks
You’re more than welcome! Glad you found this video useful!
Such a wonderful time of year: especially when the ripe hips have the marker below showing your cross was successful!

It is amazing how much you can grow in such a small space
It really is! I think gardeners are so skilled in being able to fit in as many plants as possible into our gardens! 😂
