I wanted to love motorcycle camping, but...

- I bought a motorcycle because I thought motorcycle camping looked amazing! I didn't even know how to ride a motorcycle at the time. But I learned, and I went on my first moto camping trip. And it was, well, not as exciting as I hoped.
I chose a state park campground that was close to my home because I was only supposed to have taken the motorcycle "Learn to Ride" class and earned my motorcycle endorsement the week before. Fortunately there was a cancellation in the MSF Learn to Ride course though, and I had my motorcycle license for a month before my first motorcycle camping trip.
The state park is lovely and I have a great hike (check out the deer in the video!) but I wasn't all that thrilled with my overall camping experience. Watch the video to find out why!

What a cute video! I spent 4 years of my life traveling all over Africa and Asia alone, always camped wild, outside with my motorbike and started out exactly like you. You'll find your way, I'm sure. The voyage itself, is the goal, not the end place. Ride safely!
That sounds amazing - I hope to have many more adventures in the future!
Great Video, keep on adventuring!!!
Three things you need to do , go with friends, get a set of panniers to balance your camping equipment down better , like soft bags , find some place where you enjoy to go if it's away from people round your friends up and go .
Definitely need panniers or some set of bags! It's nearing the end of riding season here so I have some choices to make - spend money to upgrade this bike, or move to a different one and get gear for it. And yes, somewhere away from crowds makes a much better experience!
I have a couple of comments, having done quite a bit of mc camping and travelling...
Firstly, you might want to look at the luggage solutions that mc travellers use for more rugged camping - soft panniers work great, or for example a "horseshoe" style setup like a Giant Loop "Great Basin" (that's pretty big tbh), or a Mosko Moto rackless system (R30 or 40). It keeps the weight down low which has to be an improvement over that tippy tower you strapped on there.
Secondly, your bike is lovely, but if you want to eventually hit more remote places, I think a small dual sport bike would be ideal. XT250, TW200, CRF250/300L for example. Much lighter, and able to handle rough roads with ease. Cheaper too, usually, I'd look for a used one personally.
Thirdly, you might want to investigate if there are any BDR's in your area (Backroad Discovery Routes). If you want nature, that will def get you there.
Hope you stick with it, it's pretty great when you get it right! :)
Thanks on the tips on luggage! I'm definitely in the market for something different. I didn't want to spend too much money installing mounts and everything on this bike figuring I'll probably end up with something else down the line, but it looks like either of those will work on *any* bike, no need for mounts. Still so expensive though!
As I've only been a rider for about two months now, it seems wrong to plan out my future bike, but I've been thinking about it:) I would like a dual sport, but I'd need to ride some to figure out what I like. The bent-knee position on my KTM bothers my knees after a while and I also really struggle with wind - I get pushed all over the place. I'm not sure what will come next, so thanks for the advice!
You needed a sassy friend and her German Shepherd to go with you! ;)
Might be awkward to put us all on the bike, but it would have been more fun!
Like your channel.
When I camp 🏕️ I bring ear plugs and eye blind that way I can sleep 😴 better.
Also, as I’ve gotten older now I’m purchasing a lone rider tent 🏕️ and light weight cot. Yes, these two will fit on our bikes. Life is so much better when we don’t have to crawl out of the tent ⛺️
Lovely areas where you camp 🏕️ 😊
An eye cover definitely would have helped with the light from the restrooms, and I might have needed to wear the ear plugs all the time so I could pretend there weren't so many people around😂
Sounds like you have a great camping setup!
Camping close to home is a good way to get your packing system worked out.
I agree that riding to a campground is not the best experience. Some people like it, but I prefer to camp one night and then get back on the road.
I hope that you stick with it and grow to love motto camping.
Take care.

A popular state park campground over a holiday was a poor choice on my part:)
@SomeBoldAdventure nah!
It was a shake down trip. It's best to keep it close to home.
There are only 2 types of moto camping trips:
1. Good trips
2. Great trips!
I use a Sea to Summit shower bag/fire bucket/dry bag. Consider saddle bags or equal for lower center of gravity. I camp where the people and trash stops. Sleep at dark and up at dawn…
I definitely want saddle bags - they're on my list! I would love to do more remote camping. As a new rider, I have to make sure I don't get myself into any places I can't get back out of. But I definitely would like to camp somewhere less crowded!
Not to sound like an ass, but camping in a public campground on a holiday weekend has to be the worst. I had never bike camped and when I was 18 I climbed on my Yamaha 750 out of SWFL and rode up the east coast on Old Highway 17 to Maryland. Took a left over to Skyline Drive and came back. About 8 days camping. Total difference from staying in a campground. You'll love doing a trip sleeping in a different location each nite.
It was the worst! It's a lovely campground, but still a campground, FULL of people. I'm looking forward to the day I can do longer trips!
It probably is a mixture of the things you mentioned, looked like nice campsites and walking distance to the beach 😊, good luck for the next trip 🙂
The campsites are nice but very small! The beach and trail are AMAZING! Really I think my biggest issue is I don't like being around that many people. There were SO MANY people and with small campsites, it was too crowded for me. But I loved the hike.
Make the trip more about motorcycle exploring...wherever it is
I definitely need to do *something* other than hang out in a campground. It was hard because it was so close to my house, so all the places to explore were places I go all the time. Next time there will be more exploring!
Hope that you figure it out Donna. I'm sure everything will come together for you 😊
Thank you!
good video. what campground is that? safe ridin rubber down
Thanks! It’s Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon, Michigan
That make small trailers for bikes kid 0 this is skip
Hi Skip! A trailer would certainly make it easier to carry things, but I've only just learned to ride the motorcycle on its own😂
