Discovering Hearst Castle: Your Journey starts here at the Visitor Center 2024

Hearst Castle, known formally as La Cuesta Encantada (Spanish for "The Enchanted Hill"), is a historic estate in San Simeon, located on the Central Coast of California. Conceived by William Randolph Hearst, the publishing tycoon, and his architect Julia Morgan, the castle was built between 1919 and 1947. Today, Hearst Castle is a museum open to the public as a California State Park and registered as a National Historic Landmark and California Historical Landmark.

Hi there, I’m Yvonne, an Australian who went to USA in 1988 with my husband and three kids. We went to Hearst Castle and took one of the then, 5 tours available. We saw the Roman pool, walked around the outside a while, went indoors and saw the huge dining room with all the flags and wooden walls, the guest house bedrooms and the living room with the square crystal bowl that they filled with candy for the “poor kids” who were invited each Christmas. We also saw the indoor pool with all its indigo coloured and golden mosaic tiles. It was huge, as were many of the rooms and furnishings. I adored the whole trip there and was amazed how any one person could be so enormously rich. I bought books about mr Hearst and the biography of Marion Davies. I could not get enough info about his life and the lavish parties he threw. So, sooooo interesting! It truly is worth a visit!
We also went to Muir Woods in SF., Yosemite oNational Park, the JP Getty museum, Ellis Island, the Empire State Building, Disneyland in Anaheim and Universal studios. It was a fantastic holiday! I still remember things vividly.😊🦘🇦🇺
