Ohh, that's a good point too. I always just assumed that if the leggings were tight enough then they might also help keep the skate steady on your ankle, and that might be why they do it.
I do it because it creates longer and nicer lines, but only with my black leggings, I don’t like the way it looks when skaters put their skin colored tights over their boots, it kinda ruins the illusion and make the outfit look « messy » for me 😕 (I mean there are other solutions to fix your laces)
@@maouimaisnon2535not sure if im thinking of the wrong thing but Ive seen a lot of skin coloured tights over boots in olympics programs/routines, and always thought it looked neat, is that different...?
You can always try a different entrance! When first taught, salchows are typically taught with a three-turn. I learned this way and my salchow was so bad 💀 I tried my entrance from a mohawk and it improved my salchow so much! You can ask your coach to try the entrance but some coaches just have a preference for their students, especially if they’re just learning a jump.
Hard to explain via text, but for me it was key to understand the right rhythm of the jump. I always rushed into jumping instead of waiting on that edge and create the momentum for the jump to explode. Also, and this applies to all the jumps tbh, focus on jumping and giving rotation from your ankle instead of helping yourself with your arms and your knee. It took me learning a double to truly feel how important all these details are but it makes the difference!
@@sofiafigureskatesget full ice skate covers. It's made from the same material as leggings and looks like a bottomless sock. It covers the entire boot.
I have paramilitary boots that have lace hooks and the amount of times I trip when my feet are close enough for them to catch is ridiculous sometimes. I deffo see why you’d wear leggings over those.
I am not a figure skater, but I still do this with my jeans or pants when I go ice skating in winter. Unless you're wearing skinny jeans the fabric just creates unnecessary pressure points. And like you said, less likely to get your laces caught on something.
Oh ya, another thing. It also helps keep the laces tied! Recently for the past few competitions I’ve been in, my coach wanted my team to wear in the boot leggings and we had to use skate tape to keep the laces tied and not in the way and such
The main reason that I do it is so the laces are secure, as she stated. This is especially if I have longer laces, as to not trip over them somehow, and also while it's not the same thing, it kinda makes me feel better about my skates staying a little tighter without having to put tape on my laces every time I skate
it also keeps ur ankles and bones warmer so u can move more smoothly and nicely without being as stiff and it stops the ice plow getting in ur skate and freezing ur ankles
I always covered my skates with my leggings cus they were too long for me but once in my dress i had tights that were inside of my skates and my lace untied and i tripped😭
i do that mostly because if I stuff all that fabric in it'll make dents on my skin, and that additional friction may rub my skin off or give me blisters. Also to keep the laces in place and prevent them from losening, and protects the boots from being scratched either by my blades or the ice when i fall.
Omg if I could just live in my fantasy of being able to do figure skating and just skate around a place by myself with me own music I know it would take so much work though and money that I don’t have, plus the interacting with other people and the necessary failings before I could actually do what I’d want to do. It would just take so much energy I don’t feel like I have to spare right now. Though going ice skating more often would still be nice
when I was PREFORMING doing a drag MY LACES GOT STUCK TOGETHER WHEN I WENT TO GET UP AND I LITERALLY SPUN SITTING DOWN ON THE ICE AND I WAS THE LEADER OF MY TRIO😭✌️!!!
when i had beginner skates from amazon i wore leggings to keep my skates tighter without having to numb my feet with the laces, now i wear leg warmers to protect my laces
It's honestly REALLY cold in my ice rink even tho I don't go in there a lot I do when I need to cool off from the skating rink 😅 so if I did want to go in there for ice skating I would brink leg warmers for that reason 😂
As a hockey player i put my hockey socks over my skates to prevent snow/loose ice from getting in my skate as well and to keep the laces out of the way.
now that i think about it, it can keep laces from getting loose. it can keep the ice off (which melts on laces) and makes them loose. i believe that’s one reason why some hockey players wear clear skate guards over their laces
I wear rlly tight leggings, so the leggings don't go around my boot, but I roll my socks down over the laces. There's lots of ways to keep your laces secure!
I get this question so many times and it’s really simple. I learned the hard way where I was spinning and my skate 😅 caught together and that was a big mistake.
my laces used to ALWAYS get stuck on my skates when i was doing crosscuts, especially during group practice, and then i’d fall in front of everyone and feel so embarrassed till the end of class, until my sister taught me to do this, never thought of it before cause idk i was stupid ig
I once saw someone in Hockey put their socks over their skates. She just grew up like that but nobody else did it. But the thing is that once you get old enough, you don’t have pants to put over your skates on
Also prevents any loose ice from getting inside of the skate

As someone with zero knowledge about skating, what do you mean by “longer nicer lines”?
It also prevents little bits of ice getting inside the skate when you fall or something similar^^
it also keeps my ankles warm and if my skates come loose it helps keep my laces tighter than it would be without
Brooo I can’t do my salchow I can’t get my head around it and it’s so stressfull and I can tell my coach hates me😭😭

Im not an absolute expert but things you can try is changing your entrance and practicing it off ice

I do it because I don’t like scratching my skates. Pretty shallow lol but I’m attached.

i usually do it because
1 - it looks better
2 - it helps me focus
3 - it keeps my legs warm
#2 wont make sense to a non skater without further context
it also keeps ur ankles and bones warmer so u can move more smoothly and nicely without being as stiff and it stops the ice plow getting in ur skate and freezing ur ankles
I do mine because my laces are like a mile long 🫡
I used to get my toe picks in my pant legs because I had flare leggings, these skin tights are my fav
It also helps keep ice and cold air out of the boot so no joint pain
I wear my leg warmers over my skates to keep heat in. The longer I have feeling in my toes during practice, the better.
I always covered my skates with my leggings cus they were too long for me but once in my dress i had tights that were inside of my skates and my lace untied and i tripped😭
Getting stuck is the most scary thing.

My boots r fluffy on the inside n there always keeping me nice and cosy
When something is stylish and practical ❤
very informative! Ty!
Our synchro coaches like to be able to see the form on our feet more clear with leg warmers
It does look pretty cute tho
I do it, because it feels like I’m just wearing regular shoes so I can do more tricks it’s just a weird thing I do and for some reason it’s comfier
IT LOOKS SO CUTE
+ they look like flares from a distant ❤
My mom used to skate and she said that its also to add axtra cushiom for your ankles and to prevent ice from getting into your skates
The spinning part is true, whenever my team has exhibitions/competitions we have to tape our laces
I always get the scare of my life when my laces get caught in the middle of a spin😂

I do this every time my friends never do it and I’m like “;) your missing out girls”
an iconic look
it prevented my coach from realizing i ripped the side of my skate wide open😭
when I was PREFORMING doing a drag MY LACES GOT STUCK TOGETHER WHEN I WENT TO GET UP AND I LITERALLY SPUN SITTING DOWN ON THE ICE AND I WAS THE LEADER OF MY TRIO😭✌️!!!
I did it for looks and because I hated the feeling of my skates touching
I don’t wanna disform my clothes by doing this and it feels more satisfying to not do this and just tuck them in instead.
i’ve always wondered this bc i’ve always thought it looks bad 😭
when i had beginner skates from amazon i wore leggings to keep my skates tighter without having to numb my feet with the laces, now i wear leg warmers to protect my laces
it kept me warmer too loll

As a hockey player I am confused, but also understand completley.
i LOVE the way it looks
Gives Bratz doll vibes
But the laces thing I never knew or thought about
It looks good and protects my skate + tucks away my laces ✨
It’s my worst nightmare when the buckles on my skates get nicked! This is very safe and prevents your worst nightmares coming true!
The last one made the most sense to me, they wouldn’t like how it feels underneath o they just put it on top
i’ve been skating for nine years and i only ever did it because i would not get snow in my boot lol
It looks so so SO cute
i do it because it makes it easier for me to see my skates, and also i used to get my laces stuck on the other skate so much 😂
Ik this is random but I absolutely love this song thanks for playing it 😊
My sister absolutely hates the leggings over the skates 😂
I love this song, I play it every day 😂
I did it to prevent me from accidentally hurting my legs
I used to have the pants that go all the way on the skate and I lovedddddd how fancy it looked
I always just shoved my laces into themselves so there was nothing to catch.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll probably use this in the future
I figured it was mainly creating neat lines, like ballet.
Here I was thinking it was just to keep the feetsies warm
As a hockey player i put my hockey socks over my skates to prevent snow/loose ice from getting in my skate as well and to keep the laces out of the way.
I always assumed it was to keep ice outside of the boots
Keeps my feet warm 😂
i almost tripped bc my blade got stuck in my laces, and my body actually felt like it took a screenshot😭
Nothing like going into an axel and tripping over laces and face planting
i love legwamers theyre so cute
There's also the benefit of keeping your ankles (a very important joint) warmer
OMG I was a figure skating for seven years and then I quit. I miss it so much.
I feel like when I did figure skating it kept my legs arm better ☠️😭
Also for the fact that my laces get really long, and i trip over them. And it always sucks when you fall because of that.
dude ur voice is so smooth and nice sounding
My laces were rlly long and I’d get caught on them so I did this lol
Imagine two skaters getting to close and getting there skates tide together 💀💀💀
I don't have proper leggings to wear over the boot lol, so I just have to suffer through my laces getting caught on the other boot
Nah wehn I saw this IT reminded me of sunghoon😭😭❤️❤️

As someone who's been injured from catching my laces, definitely do this!
I thought skating was going to be the easiest thing ever, till I actually did it for the first time… I couldn’t even let go of the sides
it avoids frozen toes too :)
It also prevents scuffs
you can also pull long socks over the laces too
i used to do it to protect the skates so they'll looks perfect and unscratched for shows
