The birthright is one of the most powerful items in this game, because either it can give a character a special ability (Like T. Forgotten's ability to bring "dead weight" back to the soul or Isaac being allowed to have the same ability as his tainted counterpart without the inventory problem) to give them something extra (Like extra space for Tainted Isaac or a character's item in case of J&E). With T. Jacob,the birthright becomes a high risk and high reward. While your Anima Sola charges faster, you will get a SECOND Dark Esau (that's why the many commas when I refered this character's Birthright - This is ESAU'S birthright, because it benefits him more than his brother.) While this means the benefits become stronger with more super dashes and ways to clean floors, this also means his cons become stronger too. It is already hard to deal with normal J&E and even harder as T. Jacob and Dark Esau, imagine playing with not one,not two, but THREE characters at the same time (Unless that character is Stumpford [J&E's forgotten brother], I don't think people would like playing with more danger than they already are playing). Normally, it wouldn't pass through the player's mind if they should grab or not the Birthright, after all, who skips on a Birthright ? But when it comes to T. Jacob, this becomes a big question - Do you want the "safe" path of only dealing with 1 Dark Esau or would you rather becomes a killing machine with 2 Dark Esaus,yet having more chances of screwing up a run ?

As a jacob main, i ALWAYS take the birthright Even tho they look hard, just remember that the alternative esau ALWAYS attacks at the same time as the original one, so it becomes basically a huge reward
I have always been on the side of Tainted Jacob being really fun, at least once they buffed Dark Esau to not be killable. That thrill of never really feeling safe and timing Esau's charge to slaughter a line of enemies is super satisfying and makes them one of my fave characters among the base roster! (Also very fun visuals this video! More than worth the wait!)
I've always considered post-buffed T. Jacob a really strong and good T. character. Most of the times I've died I understand that it was because I need to get better, and not because this character is stupid. There's still was situations, where I was unable to avoid Esau because of some narrow room with no space to dodge, and let's not forget about some of the Beast and Mega Satan attacks, which you technically can't avoid without touching your bro. But overall, this is so great and cool concept. It's like a double-edged sword - if your not skilled enough, you'll most of the time will die because of Esau, but from other perspective, your bro can carry the whole run if you manage to get hang of him. I really glad they fixed this character, because on launch of Repentance, he was just horrible

One thing i enjoy demonstrating for people who complain about t-jacob being "too difficult" is being able to just... stand still next to dark esau and him never charging at you for indefinite periods of time.

He’s one of my favorite characters to play as after finishing him. I used to hate him, but then I started seeing Dark Esau as a rabid dog that I’m trying (and failing) to keep on a leash, and I don’t know, something inside me broke and I ended up both doing way better and liking him way more. You REALLY have to consider his strengths and weaknesses, because yes, you can one-shot many bosses with him (which feels just as good the 70th time you do it), but min-maxing with him has a high risk of instant death. In terms of fun I’d put him near the top for me. Often when I’m encountering an enemy/boss it feels like I’m throwing a brick at them that instantly vaporizes their soul, which is great. In terms of strength, though, I think he’s bizarrely in the middle- he’s strong with a big weakness. The strongest characters have small/no weaknesses, and the weakest characters have few strengths, so he ends up in the middle. Stronger than most when you get the hang of him, but he can’t ever truly escape his serious weaknesses.

I’m impressed with Tainted J&E having similar problems as regular J&E. He’s probably 1 of my fave challenge characters, but honestly I think the issue I think other people have is learning an entire new skillset on dodging and abusing s Also tainted laz,,,, I feel ya man. He’s almost a fun character if flip didn’t take so long two charge. At the very least he rivals tainted Jacob four how much he can abuse devil deals (and by extension shops and black markets). I like playing him but he’s an uphill battle

As the literal only (allegedly) unironic Jacob And Esau enjoyer, after doing inf% I feel a lot of players kinda get stuck in the trap of not stepping out of their comfort zone with the game and attempt to learn to play in a different way, which I feel applies here. TJacob is good! He's just not the type of good people are used to, and while the point of the game not being built around more extreme characters (J&E, TJacob, T??? due to lack of bombs, TLaz due to lots of additional HP and item management and the Losts because isaac unfair damage lol), the game does usually give enough, if not more than enough ways to "git gud". While people can play how they want, people should also not bash characters solely because they dont like them / its extra challenging. Rant aside, really like your editing. Very charming.
Personally I grew to love him because I played the character for hours on end before the rework, and once they made jank like esau hitting a spike rock or entering the mega satan room before the timer ends no longer death sentences it felt like so much weight had been lifted, even if I technically lost some utility with no longer having a knockoff mama mega every floor. I felt unmatched power, I'd mastered friendly fire. easily my favourite character. Also esau really puts into perspective how little down side blood puppy has, as long as you just keep in mind it'll spawn in the middle of the room
I think jacob perfectly defines the diference between a character being hard and bad. The skill ceiling is incredibly high and it is unforgiving towards mistakes and moments of hesitation, but it can also be one of the most powerful things in the game when you can avoid the missteps
dude i swear i was wishing for the longest period that someone is gonna make a video about tainted jacob, and this definitely did not disappoint. when i was new to binding of isaac and watched the lazymattman video about tainted jacob (tainted jacob.exe), i thought the character was just pain and suffering. but i've tried him out after that, and i think it might be my favorite character now (dont beat me up pls). ofcourse, learning the character is very difficult since the binding of isaac isnt a game where you are usually chased by bloodthirsty demons every second, and i think thats what makes the character fun. it has a fun, fresh and unique concept (in the context of tboi ofcourse) that i think a lot of people are not willing to try. tainted jacob is probably the best speedrun character too, since anima sola charges after every single room allowing you to use dark esau's dash and finish the room a LOT quicker than normal. i am gonna quit yapping now but GOD DAMN you are underrated as hell. this video is literally one of the best analysis videos i have seen in a long time. this channel def gonna blow up soon, bro is cooking 🗣

Again tho i do wanna point out that some of the audio mixing is off with the jokey stuff being louder then you in some parts of the video. T. Jacob is like being given a weapon of mass destruction. You just need to wield it properly so that you aren't caught in its way. It takes Esau a long time to get back to you when unleashed by Anima Sola, and if you aim him right, the room is likely over already if not in a few more seconds.
Honestly, the thing holding this character back before the patch was that you could kill Dark Esau, because as soon as you got OP, like one does in Isaac, he was impossible to not inadvertently kill. Making T-Jacob just T-Lost without the filtered item pool.

Tainted Jacob is binding of Isaac potential man he has incredible potential with the potentially extreme damage he can do but for most people that is just potential damage because they're not good enough at playing around dark essu.
Woah, amazing production quality for such a small channel. I'm very impressed. When I was getting Dead God, I definitely noticed a lot of the strengths you brought up, which shines in the early game! (small thing, it's spelled Esau, not Easu, and pronounced Eesaa)
I remember when playing Repentance for the first time on my PS4 I just cheesed his completion marks (while they removed the ability to kill Dark Esau on pc they didn't do so on consoles for a bit) but when I went to revisit marks for him on pc (ngl I originally picked him up while having a really bad day and my mindset was using him as punishment, its a long story but I'm in a better mental state now) I realized that honestly, he's really fun, I got tired of the usual gameplay loop of Isaac so having a constant threat I can't do anything about made Isaac feel fun again during a period when I wasn't having any, yeah it's hard to learn initially, but he's such a good utility tool, immense damage, and honestly isn't even really hard to dodge either, Tainted Jacob went from a character I dreaded and only wanted to play when I could' just avoid the downsides into a character I genuinely love utilizing, one of my favourite characters in the game now Edit: JESUS FUCK THAT PAUSE DELIRIUM KILL, I never considered the possibility of combining Pause with a Desau charge, thank you for openeing my eyes to this potential Edit 2: Hey I understood that little visual reference :) (I nearly missed it on first watch because I was playing a game but when I rewatched it I noticed that, I'm sure no one else here knows what I'm talking about but I know you do)
My biggest issue with T. Jacob is i feel like my run needs to be strong, now maybe its just a skill issue but i always find myself getting killed by esau making me into the lost while fighting bosses like mother, mega satan, hush, etc. any boss that's very bullet hell i end up geting sandwiched between esau and their attacks
My opinion on this topic is that both sides are right. I'm under the opinion that T. Jacob is one of the worst characters in the game if you don't know how to play him because you have to deal with an invincible enemy that at any point can take away your health bar, and you still have to deal with everything else the game throws at you. I also Believe that T. Jacob is one of strongest characters because if you know what you're doing you can clear a hoard of enemies or a boss in seconds When you first start playing T. Jacob you're not going to know how to properly use Esau and he's going to put you into a lot of situations that either force you to take damage or turn into the lost. You're also not going to be killing many enemies/Bosses with Esau causing because you don't know how to manipulate him into doing those things. What I think is the most difficult part about T. Jacob is that at any point in the run* you can have your health bar instantly taken away from you simply because you weren't paying attention. The thing is is that you have to learn a lot In order to play T. Jacob effectively. You need to know: When Esau is going to charge at you What direction is Esau charging Where is Esau compared to Jacob How do I use Esau to my advantage How long do the chains last when I use anima sola How to dodge Esau consistently If you do manage to get over the learning curve of T. Jacob you can gain some insane benefits. A few examples would be: clearing a floor under a minute without rushing Killing bosses in under 5 seconds The ability to grab pickups/items over rocks/pits easily The ability to steal devil items In the end I do think that Jacob is better than people give him credit for, but he has a much steeper learning curve compared to every other character which makes him very difficult for others
Your comparison from base and tanted jacob and co would have made more sence pre patch when dark esua could die for the floor but would take your health bar with him. Early floors he is manageable and amazing offense but later floors whould chip away at him every time a loose bullet from you or the enemies hit him. for final bosses using offensively whould get him killed and leave you worse off in most cases but the wear and tear from previous rooms can leave him fragile and his death a garentee (mega satn would not progress unless he died). Juggling his invisible hp and you own was infinitely harder than just making him immortal but I felt real proud geting most of those marks before the change
My problem is that his benefits are shared with so many other characters that lack the same harsh downsides. Azazel, tainted azazel, tainted judas, tainted blue baby, and tainted eve are all capable of boss melting dps without items, and none of them have as heavy downsides as tainted jacob.
The firts time I tried Tainted jacob I was ready to suffer like I did with Jacob and Esau but... After I saw how melt Monstro like butter, it become my favorite character to play with even if I don't use the quirks of the soul form, is one of the best tainted in the fun part, I love how good of a character is, I just with some tainted characters had the same fun value (T. blue baby and T.Lazarus)
I feel like the audio mixing could definitely use some work. There are plenty of times such as 11:42 where it's really hard to hear you over the background skit thingy.
First off, amazing editing. Good job. I will give him another try. Never knew pause remote was good for him. I made a safe file for specifically T. Jacob to see if he is just bad or I have skill issue. It was a mixture of both. For context, I played it before Esau gotten buffed to be unkillable. Back then he was and not worth it as you would turn into Lost. I ended up hating the character as most rooms were designed with 1 straight path to the room opposite and you don’t have enough DPS to kill the enemies and just get hit and turn into the Lost. Which if you ask me was BS. Main example, the Bomb fly room with 4 of them a path to the north and south door. I generally believe the Anima Sola duration should be longer but thats it and also changes to thise hallway fights. To end it, this character sucks ass to play co-op. Its not fun at all.

I've gotten the majority of T. Jacob's marks done, and I think he's really balanced. I know at launch he was utterly miserable due to dash jank and Dark Esau dying all the time, however, modern T. Jacob feels very fun to control. The only time I hated him was when I was doing Boss Rush and Hush, which is to be expected. However, when you can actually take your time, you can be very strategic with him. Plus, Esau is not too hard to dodge and use offensively either. I honestly think he's easier than T. Lost and even his OG counterpart.
T. Jacob completely changes when in a coop run. Dark Esau can't hurt other players (except for other Jacobs) and stays after Jacob dies, allowing for insane DPS even after death. Also screw that one boomfly room in the caves
I would personally say he’s pretty easy to play if you know what you’re doing and how anima sola works. I mean if you use anima sola and use it, T Esau gets instantly unchained and dashes again. This allows you to one shot every boss other than mom legit until It Lives. And he’s stupidly easy to dodge and with his birthright he’s nearly unstoppable
T Jacob is one of the three best designed characters in the game, the other two being the forgotten and t keeper. T jacob is the true glass cannon character in isaac.
I would personally say The Deserter aka t. Jacob is S tier. I have almost 2000 hours on Isaac, completed dead god 4 times, even with mods like fiend folio that is considered to make the game exponentially harder and he is the most consistent of all characters. His raw damage is insane, only topped up by t. ??? but unlike him, Jacob has a very easy acces to it. He's the only challange character that I love playing because the only bad moments are my stupi skill issues.
IMO the biggest strength tainted jacob has is being able to use self damage items(like swallowed penny, piggybank, fanny pack, etc) and items like curse of the tower while also having access to defensive items. Self damage = easy rig = a lot of defensive items :). Tainted jacob is like shit tier character if you don't know how to or don't like rigging and a pretty good character if you like rigging.
Oh my god, I already liked T. Jakob, but SOMEHOW I didn't know about the broken synergy with the time-stop remote (forgot it's name), and wow, fucking DELIRIUM was anihilated!
I find Tainted J&E much more enjoyable than regular J&E. Esau causes problems in both but getting hit by Tainted Esau is much less frustrating than Esau getting caught on a rock and ruining your deal room chances.
Fun fact you can kill essul it takes a ehile but the problem is as soon as you kill him you become the lost instantly as big horn drag him back down and you will see him next floor
i havent unlocked him yet, but from what ive seen so far on vids of others, and my struggles with original jacob and essau- non tainted version is a huge bitch compared to non tainted one essau, please stay as a ghost
A lot of it boils down to simple trial, error and experimentation. Even now I'm still learning and trying new things with animations and video quality.
The answer is is it fun, you can directly instantly skip every boss fight but the danger is a constant 30-40 minutes of annoyance and sometimes bs. The same way normal jacob is kinda fucky and not really fun unless you are a 24/7 adrenaline junkie like the other defenders in these comments. If it isn't fun just dont play it tho, i simply put the game down after i did every character besides this weird gimmick one, if there were more ways to get him to screw off on non-combat rooms it'd be better but eh.
After they fixed the dash jank T. Jacob is really fun to play and go fast with (i have a -45 winstreak and 1 Jacob completion mark)

dude i swear i was wishing for the longest period that someone is gonna make a video about tainted jacob, and this definitely did not disappoint. when i was new to binding of isaac and watched the lazymattman video about tainted jacob (tainted jacob.exe), i thought the character was just pain and suffering. but i've tried him out after that, and i think it might be my favorite character now (dont beat me up pls). ofcourse, learning the character is very difficult since the binding of isaac isnt a game where you are usually chased by bloodthirsty demons every second, and i think thats what makes the character fun. it has a fun, fresh and unique concept (in the context of tboi ofcourse) that i think a lot of people are not willing to try. tainted jacob is probably the best speedrun character too, since anima sola charges after every single room allowing you to use dark esau's dash and finish the room a LOT quicker than normal.
i am gonna quit yapping now but GOD DAMN you are underrated as hell. this video is literally one of the best analysis videos i have seen in a long time. this channel def gonna blow up soon, bro is cooking 🗣

Again tho i do wanna point out that some of the audio mixing is off with the jokey stuff being louder then you in some parts of the video. Id much rather hear your words more clearly then the bit thats suppose to be in the background. T. Jacob is like being given a weapon of mass destruction. You just need to wield it properly so that you aren't caught in its way.
It takes Esau a long time to get back to you when unleashed by Anima Sola, and if you aim him right, the room is likely over already if not in a few more seconds.
Honestly, the thing holding this character back before the patch was that you could kill Dark Esau, because as soon as you got OP, like one does in Isaac, he was impossible to not inadvertently kill. Making T-Jacob just T-Lost without the filtered item pool.

Tainted Jacob is binding of Isaac potential man he has incredible potential with the potentially extreme damage he can do but for most people that is just potential damage because they're not good enough at playing around dark essu.
I'm not worried about Tainted Jacob, but I am worried of having to go to home with regular Jacob to unlock him

I remember when playing Repentance for the first time on my PS4 I just cheesed his completion marks (while they removed the ability to kill Dark Esau on pc they didn't do so on consoles for a bit) but when I went to revisit marks for him on pc (ngl I originally picked him up while having a really bad day and my mindset was using him as punishment, its a long story but I'm in a better mental state now) I realized that honestly, he's really fun, I got tired of the usual gameplay loop of Isaac so having a constant threat I can't do anything about made Isaac feel fun again during a period when I wasn't having any, yeah it's hard to learn initially, but he's such a good utility tool, immense damage, and honestly isn't even really hard to dodge either, Tainted Jacob went from a character I dreaded and only wanted to play when I could' just avoid the downsides into a character I genuinely love utilizing, one of my favourite characters in the game now

My biggest issue with T. Jacob is i feel like my run needs to be strong, now maybe its just a skill issue but i always find myself getting killed by esau making me into the lost while fighting bosses like mother, mega satan, hush, etc. any boss that's very bullet hell i end up geting sandwiched between esau and their attacks

Your videos are genuinely amazing and you deserve more traction. Only issue was the volume of the sound effects at times, specifically near 11:50.
My opinion on this topic is that both sides are right.
I'm under the opinion that T. Jacob is one of the worst characters in the game if you don't know how to play him because you have to deal with an invincible enemy that at any point can take away your health bar, and you still have to deal with everything else the game throws at you.
I also Believe that T. Jacob is one of strongest characters because if you know what you're doing you can clear a hoard of enemies or a boss in seconds
When you first start playing T. Jacob you're not going to know how to properly use Esau and he's going to put you into a lot of situations that either force you to take damage or turn into the lost. You're also not going to be killing many enemies/Bosses with Esau causing because you don't know how to manipulate him into doing those things.
What I think is the most difficult part about T. Jacob is that at any point in the run* you can have your health bar instantly taken away from you simply because you weren't paying attention.
The thing is is that you have to learn a lot
In order to play T. Jacob effectively.
You need to know:
When Esau is going to charge at you
What direction is Esau charging
Where is Esau compared to Jacob
How do I use Esau to my advantage
How long do the chains last when I use anima sola
How to dodge Esau consistently
If you do manage to get over the learning curve of T. Jacob you can gain some insane benefits.
A few examples would be:
clearing a floor under a minute without rushing
Killing bosses in under 5 seconds
The ability to grab pickups/items over rocks/pits easily
The ability to steal devil items
In the end I do think that Jacob is better than people give him credit for, but he has a much steeper learning curve compared to every other character which makes him very difficult for others

Your comparison from base and tanted jacob and co would have made more sence pre patch when dark esua could die for the floor but would take your health bar with him. Early floors he is manageable and amazing offense but later floors whould chip away at him every time a loose bullet from you or the enemies hit him. for final bosses using offensively whould get him killed and leave you worse off in most cases but the wear and tear from previous rooms can leave him fragile and his death a garentee (mega satn would not progress unless he died). Juggling his invisible hp and you own was infinitely harder than just making him immortal but I felt real proud geting most of those marks before the change
My problem is that his benefits are shared with so many other characters that lack the same harsh downsides. Azazel, tainted azazel, tainted judas, tainted blue baby, and tainted eve are all capable of boss melting dps without items, and none of them have as heavy downsides as tainted jacob.

The firts time I tried Tainted jacob I was ready to suffer like I did with Jacob and Esau but... After I saw how melt Monstro like butter, it become my favorite character to play with even if I don't use the quirks of the soul form, is one of the best tainted in the fun part, I love how good of a character is, I just with some tainted characters had the same fun value (T. blue baby and T.Lazarus)
I feel like the audio mixing could definitely use some work. There are plenty of times such as 11:42 where it's really hard to hear you over the background skit thingy.

I made a safe file for specifically T. Jacob to see if he is just bad or I have skill issue. It was a mixture of both.
For context, I played it before Esau gotten buffed to be unkillable. Back then he was and not worth it as you would turn into Lost.
I ended up hating the character as most rooms were designed with 1 straight path to the room opposite and you don’t have enough DPS to kill the enemies and just get hit and turn into the Lost.
Which if you ask me was BS. Main example, the Bomb fly room with 4 of them a path to the north and south door.
I generally believe the Anima Sola duration should be longer but thats it and also changes to thise hallway fights.
To end it, this character sucks ass to play co-op. Its not fun at all.

Imo you did a great analysis of the Character - I think Tainted Jacob is a true S-Tier character tho but this opinion is also heavily biased lol
I've gotten the majority of T. Jacob's marks done, and I think he's really balanced. I know at launch he was utterly miserable due to dash jank and Dark Esau dying all the time, however, modern T. Jacob feels very fun to control. The only time I hated him was when I was doing Boss Rush and Hush, which is to be expected. However, when you can actually take your time, you can be very strategic with him. Plus, Esau is not too hard to dodge and use offensively either. I honestly think he's easier than T. Lost and even his OG counterpart.
T. Jacob completely changes when in a coop run. Dark Esau can't hurt other players (except for other Jacobs) and stays after Jacob dies, allowing for insane DPS even after death. Also screw that one boomfly room in the caves
T. Jacob my favorite character
I would personally say he’s pretty easy to play if you know what you’re doing and how anima sola works. I mean if you use anima sola and use it, T Esau gets instantly unchained and dashes again. This allows you to one shot every boss other than mom legit until It Lives. And he’s stupidly easy to dodge and with his birthright he’s nearly unstoppable

I would personally say The Deserter aka t. Jacob is S tier. I have almost 2000 hours on Isaac, completed dead god 4 times, even with mods like fiend folio that is considered to make the game exponentially harder and he is the most consistent of all characters. His raw damage is insane, only topped up by t. ??? but unlike him, Jacob has a very easy acces to it. He's the only challange character that I love playing because the only bad moments are my stupi skill issues.
IMO the biggest strength tainted jacob has is being able to use self damage items(like swallowed penny, piggybank, fanny pack, etc) and items like curse of the tower while also having access to defensive items. Self damage = easy rig = a lot of defensive items :). Tainted jacob is like shit tier character if you don't know how to or don't like rigging and a pretty good character if you like rigging.
I feel like tainted jacob's bad reputation is largely due to how unfinished and unfun he was at launch. Really at the current patch he is quite fun

I find Tainted J&E much more enjoyable than regular J&E. Esau causes problems in both but getting hit by Tainted Esau is much less frustrating than Esau getting caught on a rock and ruining your deal room chances.
Fun fact you can kill essul it takes a ehile but the problem is as soon as you kill him you become the lost instantly as big horn drag him back down and you will see him next floor

how do you make a video this good using kinemaster
A lot of it boils down to simple trial, error and experimentation. Even now I'm still learning and trying new things with animations and video quality.
The answer is is it fun, you can directly instantly skip every boss fight but the danger is a constant 30-40 minutes of annoyance and sometimes bs. The same way normal jacob is kinda fucky and not really fun unless you are a 24/7 adrenaline junkie like the other defenders in these comments.
If it isn't fun just dont play it tho, i simply put the game down after i did every character besides this weird gimmick one, if there were more ways to get him to screw off on non-combat rooms it'd be better but eh.
