I haven’t watched the full video yet so idk if you touch on this but I personally became a much better player when I stopped obsessing over a “perfect” gov plaza location and rather focused on getting it out asap even if it was only touching a couple districts. Getting ancestral hall asap to spam settlers is more of a difference maker than any adjacency bonus ever could.
Of all the civ 6 stuff i've seen, i love the disclaimer at the start and not enough do it. What you are making a video about and what its for is so refreshing to hear right off the bat.
Thank you! I do that because I find most other videos give more casual approach info and that also is what the average person wants. I don’t care how many people watch my videos. I care that the people who want to watch my videos see them. So right away I want people to not waste their time if it does not pertain to how they play. Life is way too short to watch TH-cam videos you don’t care about.
Absolutely agree on all of the mentioned points. Also add that adjacency can be improved later upon placement of subsequent districts, which may help immediate planning. The only other compelling case to plan for a high adjacency district is to obtain era score for achieving a golden age (if needed). So many other determining factors that render delaying simply to maximize adjacency rather pointless. Delaying also forfeits great person points for said districts. It may also be a discounted 20% district. City Patreon pantheon (25% discount on first district in a city) is largely overlooked IMO. I stack this one with Hungary and frequently place districts in 3-4 turns. Love your vids btw especially for the reasoning behind actions. You’re the only Civtuber I learn new tactics.
Sometimes adjacency is super nice. I was able to get a +10 faith, +10 science, and some other bonuses, holy site and the campus next to it was stacked as well. Then again that is a rare thing to happen.
Never said it wasn’t nice. I am just saying it’s not worth delaying multiple turns for adjacency. Now if it’s the difference between +2 and an immediate +10 I can see waiting a few turns. Although if it’s +2 and a +10 after 3 other districts are placed and 50 turns. Not worth it
I agree delaying researches is ineffective, but I do think industrial zone placement is always really important just for the AOE production and provides into the mid to late game with factories and powerplants
That’s one opinion. What exactly are you building in these cities after you reach coal plants? That’s decently far down the tech tree. By that point my production needs are pretty minimal.
“The reason the American Army does so well in wartime, is that war is chaos, and the American Army practices it on a daily basis." - A German WWII commamder (allegedly).
Great advice. I do struggle to figure out what to do with bad campus/holy site starts. Can lead to delaying putting down the holy site and getting the better or even any religion, or the campus and miss out on early great scientists. Probably should just put down the trash plus zero campus anyways. The games all about tempo and hitting things earlier makes the snowball happen earlier.
@sogergaming yea government plaza too. I stopped stressing about it and just put it in a "pretty good" spot earlier to get benefit from it (governors, ancestral hall etc) 30 or however many turns earlier. I sometimes don't even get it surrounded with districts (other than Casa de Contratacion of course) because it ends up not even really mattering. Get em down and get Some benefit from them when some benefit now is more valuable than more benefit later.
Delaying a disctict a couple of turns doesn't set you back long term since you can save up prod in this game. On the other hand, slamming down districts early without finishing them is also good since the prod cost then doesn't scale when you want to finish them. You should delay teching what you don't need in the beginning since that scale district cost. That means, the worst disctrict u can build in the beginning is a campus. Be well
When playing single player finding the style that makes you happy is what is most important. So if planning makes you happy it’s the correct call. I love playing to win. I enjoy efficiently doing things so that’s how i play and my content will generally support that viewpoint. At the end of the day if you enjoy your time playing you have done things correct.
Spoken ever so truthfully, Soger! People on forums always complain about strategic resources blocking their +8 campus that they've spent ages building towards. My brothers in Christ, there is a +4 campus right next to it even so, if you "lose" out on district placement because your research is too good, let me tell you, you didn't need that district there anyway then 🤷♂ I typically play Emperor though, which I find to have a nice balance between competitive and casual.
Yeah most people want fancy numbers on the screen. I don’t care about fancy numbers on the screen I want results. Only number I care about is how early did I win. People can play however they want in a single player experience if it brings them joy. I enjoy ruthless efficiency.
I'm afraid I have to disagree. It makes sense to delay district on a certain level since you can build something else. Basically you are trading one resource for another with every decision you take. By choosing another district or unit you don't necessarily loose. You get the advantages of the alternative for a lower price since you can catch up with the higher bonus. But of course this doesn't apply to every situation. But in general I would not say it is a mistake to delay certain things
Production is a finite resource and everything you build should matter. By building something that does not matter you are delaying getting something that does. District slots are extremely limited so building a different district is also a huge waste of another finite resource. If you just want to win eventually you can do many things and not affect the outcome. If you want to win early you need to focus on the things that matter. My opinion
If you got to build things that doesn't matter you are absolutly right, but that's rarely the case in the early game since you can always build settlers/builders/districts/units or even run projects to get something back from the production you invested if you care for all the details
@tiedomi2354 that is the disconnect right there. We are taking Completely different styles. I would say 90% off production options are an absolute waste. Districts, projects and wonders are the only things you cannot buy so if you’re building something other than those you should be questioning if you actually need it. I start the video explaining I play for fastest win time period. That is my goal and that is where my advice comes from. Use production on builders/settlers? Maybe your first builder or settler after that you’re going to buy them. Other units? That would be military units that have maintenance cost, and really don’t provide anything towards winning. Also once again why would I build something if it’s easier to buy it if I need it? Just because you are getting something does not mean it’s the thing you need to advance towards winning. Just building stuff because you have to is literally what I am saying is the waste in planning.
I never understood the delaying of strategics in particular, even as someone who does prefer planning adjacencies over speedrunning. With few exceptions, I actively don't want my districts on strategics anyway. I want my Iron and Nitre Mines and I want to know where I'm going to sink way too much effort into a +8 Industrial Zone. 😅
It’s the most ridiculous thing and I see it suggested all the time. I get that people like to plan and hate to deviate but iron/horses/niter are all incredible boosts to your cities output as well as providing huge power jumps for war. It’s like finding a bag of money and complaining the fabric clashes with your outfit.
@@Zondagskind.Gaming an early horse tile is good but it may be worth not risking a +4 campus. Writing is very early and you can still benefit the strategic before it becomes obsolete
I would say that if you have a +4 or greater campus in your capital You should be going writing first, if your going domination. so you are not delaying animal husbandry you are taking the strongest path down the tech tree. Now if we are talking 2-3 city or non domination a +4 campus is nothing special. My opinion.

Didn’t go into specifics.
But that is a perfect example.
Government plaza can be touching nothing and getting it out asap is the best option still

The only time I actually hunt for a high adjacency district is in the ancient era, when I'm low on era score.
Another reason adjacency only matters in the ancient era
