I knew you could place pins but I never used them for anything other than marking camps and potential settlement sites. Lol Now I know how useful they can be.
Theres also a "Detailed Map Tacks" mod that shows the adjacency bonuses on the tacks. Cuts city planning and guessing down to just a couple minutes for your whole empire
Detailed map tacks is a good mod. You can plan your districts and it will tell you the adjacency bonuses so you can really plan out the perfect placements

Keep in mind for things like industrial zones which get bonuses from mines, you can put down mine tacks and it'll even add those. Another quality of life the mod gives is keyboard shortcuts: Add tack - shift + A while hovering tile Delete tack - shift + D while hovering already placed tack Show/Hide Tacks - Shift + S If you are playing with mods this is a must get.
Finally some concise guide. I started playing this game a week ago and my average game takes 400 + turns on Prince difficulty.....no wonder since I have no idea about things like those explained in this guide. Pretty please make more of them and thank you for this one.
Spring is here, ive put away the high intensity SC2 and bought civ 6 as a chill game for the last hour or two of my day. Spent my first two nights just reading. Jesus this game is detailed.
thank you for the tip where you said "each city will probably have a max of 5 districts, maybe even less. I'm a begginer and i see you always prepare your map tacks, and i started just spamming every district in one city for adjacencies getting excited thinking i was being smart, but soon realized that my cities were not growing past a 4 population because i didn't build any farms, so now on my next playthrough i will make sure to limit my districts and spend the rest of the tiles on other things such as farms

Quill is amazing (but 30 minutes?) I can’t! This is the first time I heard of 3 pop - for districts to list appear. All this in only 18 min? NICE! MOAR please! Can you do it 10 min :) Considering... Some districts earn you 3 era-points for the first of its type, but only when it provides an adjacency-bonus of at least 3. Sometimes this makes the difference between reaching a golden age or not. Just as an additional piece of information.
6:00 fun tip for those that are interested... there is a mod in the steam workshop that shows the additional yields from districts using the map tack feature... that being "Detailed Map Tacks" and "Better Report Screen UI" (you need this one for the map tacks)
@@hughmann9568 how is it cheating when it's information known to the player and the only thing it does is do the calculation for you to help you visualize what you'll actually get? I bet you're the same kind of donkey who says "display yields in hud ribbon" is cheating
@Hugh Mann It's not cheating if it doesn't give you any info not already available to you. If it optimized district placement for you, that might be another convo. Even then, if you already know how to optimize, and it's not performing any calc you already don't know how to do, then it's still not "cheating."
Great video! All-around solid rundown of districting and adjacency bonuses. 👍 Here's what I would do in this example game: • In Râ-kedet, on the spot where you were going to put a Holy Site, I would actually put an Entertainment Complex. +2 adjacency bonus for the Theater District, bringing the total to +7. • I would put the Campus in the hex at the top-right corner of the city, at the spot where it's adjacent to four rainforest tiles and one mountain tile. In between those three mountains to the west, I'd put the Holy Site. Just like that, you'll have two districts with +3 adjacency bonuses each (+4 for the Holy Site when the Government Plaza is constructed). • On the other side of the river is where I would build my Aqueduct, Dam, and Industrial Zone. The Aqueduct would go in the hex to the southeast of the City Center, and the Dam would be to the southwest of Mont St. Michel. The Industrial Zone would be right between those two, giving it an adjacency bonus of +5. Also, once you have the ability to build lumber mills in the rainforests, you can build two in the hexes to the southeast of the Industrial Zone for one additional adjacency bonus. • I'd build the Aqueduct and Dam before the Industrial Zone, simply because building a specialty district with an adjacency bonus of +3 or more at the time of completion will earn you 3 era points (only the first time you accomplish this feat per each specialty district, however). Same goes for building the Theater Square after the wonder and the Government Plaza.
Finally found this vid lol. I got the game about a year and a half ago consistently trying to learn new things but never really got the hang of it. decided to give it another try cause the anthology was on sale and loving it so far. Got way better but thanks to this vid. I mean I watched a bunch of others like potatomcwhiskey quill18 etc but none came close to this one on district placement. I should finally be able to get my first domination victory. Always wanted to actually plan out my cities. Thanks for the vid man
I mean, my second game I won with culture and I had no idea how. Then I realised with the research you can actually plan your tree out so you can look what you want to aim for.. I was slapping shit down with no thought at all.
Awesome tutorial. I’ve been searching TH-cam for Civ 6 tutorials for better game play for as long as Civ 5 has been out, and have found this to amount the best yet. Thank you!
Dam and aqueduct districts do not depend on population, so that would probably be the case for building them first before the Industrial zone if you are population capped. Nice vid. I've been a long-time player and long-time watcher of Civ 6 videos, it's weird I only saw this one today.
Love this, very helpful. I didn't have a clue as to how important district placement was! One thing though.. you might try to not say "if that makes sense" as often ;)
Glad you enjoyed the video! This video was one of my first tutorials and there's always lots to work on. I think my more recent tutorials have improved quite a bit, including getting rid of the barrage of "if that makes sense"
I’m glad you found it helpful! Keep on grinding. Even playing at the highest difficulty and after thousands of hours I’m always learning something new. I hope you enjoy the game and can keep on improving 🎉
Excellent tutorial! plenty of information for starting off. Seeing the potential of adjacency has made me wonder - can districts from multiple cities interact with one another? for example, at the most basic level could a dam built in one city provide a bonus to an industrial district built in the same city as well as an industrial district built on the other side of the river by another city? if so, then everything you've covered here could be taken to a whole new level once these district clusters start interacting with other district clusters.
Districts CAN interact with each other from different cities and it’s a very very effective strategy. One dam can help multiple IZ’s, One entertainment complex helps multiple theatre squares etc... It also works the same with Wonders. One wonder can help multiple theatre squares etc..
@@VanBradley That's amazing, they've come a long way from spamming mines in Civ III and cottages in Civ IV, I'm only just starting off having bought all the extras during the recent Steam sale so gonna be a while before I get a hang of all these new mechanics.
It even works for cities of another civ. If your neighbor built an entertainment complex on the border, you can mooch off it with your theater square. I just had that yesterday (the neighbor was a city state though)
Interesting! I’ve used a pop filter before and never noticed a difference in the end audio quality. At the time Twitch said it wasn’t making a different either when we played around with it. I have another look at it though and see if I can make the audio better 👌
What advice do you have about when to harvest a resource to build a district on there, and when to leave a resource there? How important is it to chop woods on a tile before building a district there? I know it's a big boost in production to chop woods, but I don't always have the money to buy a builder before building a district or have a builder anywhere nearby that has extra build charges that I didn't have a use for in mind already.
Your teaching is awesome. Your insight is very much appreciated. Please know, though, that moving the cursor quickly in circles while you talk can be extremely distracting and frustrating....

I've also noticed that it takes a long time to build wonders and I've been getting notifications that I didn't build it in time so it stopped. How do I fix this?
I got a +7 bonus for the industrial zone in Rome on my first game....(2 iron next to each other and a Bath. But sadly no place dam) I really feel high...
i wish i could see the bonuses before having to wait until i unlock the district. the map tacks can do this but its so tedious, there should be a district lense

Bad com hub; should be placed two tiles above, theater square right below it next to gov. plaza. Original com hub place should be saved for another wonder; rushing Machu Picchu and placeing it next to gov plaza that makes Theater +8 and +1 on com hub from moutain makeing it +4 and as Egypt that is HUGE; if it was to be played tho. Holy site ofc in other city; since faith aint that big of a focus with this great culture start.
When you guys play how much do you focus on amenities and housing? I find myself building all types of shit to satisfy those and not focusing on a victory type. Next thing I know I have a huge empire that's behind in every single victory type 300-400 turns in.
Its hard to plan because mostly i have no idea when i will get what district. And ive been playing for months now. I just spam where the districs have the mostbonuses
Great video. Is there a video that will explain strategies for using policy cards with adjacency bonuses? I am having difficulty in game strategizing how to best employ them. For example the 100% holy site adjacency card is one of the early ones that you can get. Is it useful for planning district bonuses? Or does it apply to the tile yeilds surrounding holy districts?
The policy cards that give +100% adjacency bonuses are much better when you've been able to acquire much better adjacency bonuses on that type of building. If you've built a few great campuses with +3 or +4 adjacency bonuses, but you have just one holy site and it's only a +1, then it's clear which of the two policy cards is better. The +100% holy site adjacency card doubles the faith boost of your holy sites, it won't affect the tile yields next to the holy site. But it will turn a +3 holy site into a +6 holy site. If you combine Work Ethic with Scripture, you get one of the most insane combos in the game. And if you add one of the three pantheons that gives holy sites an adjacency bonus for Rainforest, Tundra, or Desert on top of Work Ethic and Scripture, you'll get some of the most insane holy sites in the game. You can get a +16 faith +16 production Holy Site pretty early in the game if you choose the right pantheon, place your Holy Site properly, and combine Work Ethic with Scripture. When you're exploring the nearby terrain at the start of the game, it will give you an idea of what type of victory path you want to take. If you see reefs and geothermal fissures, a science game while taking advantage of the +100% campus adjacency bonuses is a good strategy. If you see a natural wonder or two nearby that you can settle next to, the +100% holy site adjacency bonus policy could be great. If you see a lot of mountains, that makes both Holy Sites and Campuses great options. Rainforests and forests give minor adjacency bonuses to Campuses and Holy Sites respectively, but I tend to not worry too much about the minor adjacency bonuses. The only minor adjacency bonus that I really think about is the adjacency bonus for placing districts next to each other. If you see a lot of rivers nearby, the +100% commercial hub adjacency bonuses could be good. If you see a few different rivers with flood plains where you can build dams and aqueducts the +100% industrial zone adjacency bonuses could be good. Going for exploiting the +100% theater square adjacency bonus card is hard because that doesn't really care about terrain too much. It cares about having built wonders and entertainment districts (and water parks). That's especially complex because you'll want to plan out which wonders you'll build on each tile because most wonders have pretty specific tile requirements. It's a more advanced strategy that you should try out later on.
I know you get Era Score from building a +3 or better district... but do you still get the Era Score if a district upgrades later in the game to +3 or higher?
Hmmm.... interesting! You only get the Era Score if it’s the first +3 of that district (commercial hub, campus etc...) but I’m not actually sure if you get the era score for the first +3 district if it was upgraded! I’m going to test this out and get back to you 👌
Can someone explain how that city has 14 housing without a single farm or neighborhood plz? I think I give to much importance to improving tiles rather than building districts
You should be building districts and trading for luxury resources if you are amenity capped. I hardly build farms but I also tend to play coastal styles with harbors and commerce hubs.
Unfortunately there’s nothing you can do. If you get the district down and the resource pops up later it will accumulate it for you even if there’s a district on top of it. Once you can actually see the resource though, there’s no way to get rid of it. You’ll see strategies sometimes where people will avoid revealing iron or niter etc... until they’ve placed there good districts just to make sure they get them down.
Ugh. I am trying to use your guides to transition from Civ Revolution to Civ 6. So much doesn’t make sense. I listened to your District Placement advice and planned out my campus. It turns out that Mount F’n Everest doesn’t count as Mountain Squares. I am losing my patience quickly.
The biggest help on this was actually the small detail with regard to the pins. I had no idea you could place those...that helps a lot

I’m going to test this out and get back to you 👌
Helped me allot, thank you.
Great video! I learnt a lot :)
Very Thank yon.
This was very helpful
Can someone explain how that city has 14 housing without a single farm or neighborhood plz? I think I give to much importance to improving tiles rather than building districts
You should be building districts and trading for luxury resources if you are amenity capped. I hardly build farms but I also tend to play coastal styles with harbors and commerce hubs.
You forgot one key of city planning - naming them baby brooo-hah’s cities 🤣
That was so funny 😂 the livestream is a wild time
On Turn 200+ i usually buy districts i need with my Gold/Faith Governeur =)
Very helpful video
Im not sure if you made a video on policy that says +100% on harbor and comercial district, what it does?
Great video
really helps
wow thx a lot for tutorial!
Did you ever make that 2nd video?
I haven’t no. It’s on my list to do as soon as the faith victory series is up this week 👌
This is a good video.
If that makes sense. 😉
Amazing! Many thanks!!
No worries! Anytime
Thanks, nice job!
Is there a mod that shows where exactly to build my districts to maximize their yield? Is is very time consuming to do it manually.
Is there something I can do, if a strategic recourse pops up, where i planned a district?
Unfortunately there’s nothing you can do. If you get the district down and the resource pops up later it will accumulate it for you even if there’s a district on top of it. Once you can actually see the resource though, there’s no way to get rid of it.
You’ll see strategies sometimes where people will avoid revealing iron or niter etc... until they’ve placed there good districts just to make sure they get them down.
thanks
Might be good to say that it is DLC in the title.
Ugh. I am trying to use your guides to transition from Civ Revolution to Civ 6. So much doesn’t make sense. I listened to your District Placement advice and planned out my campus. It turns out that Mount F’n Everest doesn’t count as Mountain Squares. I am losing my patience quickly.
Nice video if that makes sense
Is the PC and Xbox version different? Or do i have an expansion to get the dam and governors
"currencies"/currency. Better would be met-values? or gamer me says, 'Resources.'
