I think it would remove the speciality of super sonic but ok then.
Thats why Frontiers was a huge missed opportunity for Hyper Sonic. They could have easily linked the whole "another dimension" excuse to Cyberspace and brought back the Super Emeralds that way
actually i think the main reason is probably more to do with the fact that super sonic is _already_ kinda ripping off DBZ enough, but having _another_ power up like hyper sonic risks sonic writing falling into that trap of endless power creep like DBZ and other shounen stuff

Since Super Sonic is mostly positive chaos energy, maybe they can either make a new/existing villain that could actually utilize their smarts and channel the other negative end of chaos energy, effectively canceling each other out and maybe weaken Sonic's Super form over time, or give the Phantom Ruby again to an ACTUALLY capable and threatening villain in the games, which I felt like Infinite had wasted potential since Phantom Ruby is more powerful than the Chaos Emeralds.

It would need to be used VERY sparingly for a very epic final battle (an opportunity already missed in Frontiers). But fans would always be waiting for it and wondering if it's going to appear in every game.
Just make way to unlock permanently for new game+.
Okay so Super Emeralds are separate entities to Chaos Emeralds. For the longest of times I thought that Super Emeralds were Chaos Emeralds but super charged by the Master Emerald, which made sense to me bc we could get Super only after getting Chaos Emeralds

Or just slow down the color rotation. He could pulse a white light between colors and as as the pulse fades the next color fades in, then pulses back to white, and so on. It doesn't need to flicker.

that is the story canon reason, but the actual reason is because they stated that they "dont want too many forms like a certain anime" and we all know which anime is being referred to even though it wasnt mentioned by name.
Though, its ironic because it seems as though Super Sonic 2 was teased for Sonic Frontiers DLC.
And they already have a good number of alternative forms in the canon even though they are usually stricted to a single game. Unleashed, Black Knight, Secret Rings, and now Frontiers. If that's their excuse than it seems pretty out of touch with the franchise's continuity.

I've been dreaming of seeing Hyper Sonic again since the moment he appeared. It seems to me that there will be an interesting plot with a threat that even super Sonic is powerless against, which is why Sonic will have to move to a new level.
I swear the Super Emeralds were in Adventure 1 flashbacks. Normally Chaos Emeralds in that game are small, but in the flashbacks the altar contains much larger surrounding Emeralds, similar to size of Super Emeralds

According to Ian Flynn, writer of the Archie Sonic comics who also wrote the script in frontiers. He pitched the idea that sonic was going to turn into hyper sonic in the final battle against “the end” but it was rejected
Because its allegedly stated that the power scaling is simply too OP even by The Ends standards
So thats likely why Super Sonic 2 appeared, to match against the end, but not to the point where its an unfair fight

Yes, and Takashi Iizuka had also said that Hyper was created because of the gameplay factor, because at the time of the Megadrive, there were cartridges, when you put together the cartridges, Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, you would have Sonic 3 & Knuckles, however, for those who already played on the Sonic 3 cartridge and had already collected the emeralds in Sonic 3, they wouldn't have anything to collect from & Knuckles, so they created a second transformation, nowadays, in Sonic Origins, you can do the true ending without the super emeralds

I think Ian Flynn and the crew could write a good story and introduce hyper sonic in the comics. I could also see him coming back in the games if the frontiers formula and the use of super sonic will be the standard moving forward. However once you cross the “ a threat super sonic can’t beat” line, there’s no going back

Issue is it has the Super Saiyan effect, when you introduce a new form that's insanely more powerful, it becomes hard to make the original form useful again in future stories without lowering the stakes

Its a literally a fan remake of the only game the hyper sonic form Appeared in it does not count at all.
All they have to do is that Hyper Sonic is when Sonic uses both the Positive and Negative power of the emeralds. Super Sonic uses only the Positive that's why they keep their color, Negative uses up the color of the emeralds.

My personal excuse I’ve made - the Super Emeralds were a temporary powerup to the Chaos Emerald caused by the Master Emerald. When this powerup faded, they shrank back down, but kept their signature diamond shape that we now see them in. Sonic, too, was permanently changed by the Super Emeralds, keeping a nerfed version of the Crystal Flash as the Homing Attack and having his eyes stained green with Chaos energy.
That's an amazing explanation! Makes you think whether the temporary return of the hyper form for Modern Sonic would bring any further changes to his moveset or design.

Awesome theory! I remember when Chaos was in the comics and he trapped Sonic inside his water body and sonic had to burst out of Chaos and when he came out he had green eyes. I think they said it was from the “chaos energy” inside Chaos’ water that got into Sonic’s eyes. Well that was at least Archie’s way of writing green eyes onto Sonic. I think I like your idea more!

I've heard that when they were planning the new END/Supreme boss fight for the dlc in Frontiers there was talk about bringing back Hyper Sonic for the fight but it was shot down and instead we got Super Sonic 2.
To me I always believed it was to prevent seizures from people because of the fact he was rapidly changing colors throughout his duration of the form until his ring count reach zero
Maybe in future games they could change it to be pure white with a slightly rainbowish aura
They could use the Archie sonic comics colors for it as everyone (almost) has gone hyper in the Archie comics

Honestly, I really don't need a story in fact I kind of miss the days when the Chaos Emeralds weren't in the front of the story. In fact, I thought it a bit, dare I say, cringe when Sonic in Frontiers mentioned, ah yes I might not be able to beat this titan now but just wait until I go Super Sonic.

@@Koppu1doragon You don't understand what was going on in Frontiers, do you? In Frontiers, Sonic's the only good character that's outside of Hyperspace. All of his friends that appear in the game are stuck in-between or in Hyperspace for the majority of the game's runtime, so they're physically unable to interact with the real world, so Sonic's literally their last hope. And, even WHEN they come back to the real world, they go back into Hyperspace to help revive Sonic, causing Sonic to be the world's last hope. I respect your opinion, but I just wanted to clarify what was going on in Frontiers to my understanding.

They've gotta be saving Hyper for an extreme threat headed Mobius' way sometime in the future, when Super Sonic just isn't enough.
Honestly, here are my thoughts. They could have a game where they bring back Dark Sonic and Hyper Sonic in one fell swoop. Super Sonic could b using the positive side of the emeralds, and not be enough. Dark Sonic could be using the negative side of the Emeralds and not be enough. So Sonic had to learn to use balanced Chaos Energy, and master it to unlock the power of the Super Emeralds. Hyper Sonic would just be powered off of pure Chaos Energy, and Sonic would have to have full Mastery over the Emeralds in order to harness that kind of raw power.
We do see what the Super Emeralds look like when they aren't present in your dimension in Sonic Mania. They're all gray and cracked This means that the gems themselves still exist, but their power is inaccessible.
Hyper Sonic is cool, he's like a Sonic never seen before. Maybe, that would make the Kleptomobile and Phantom King bosses easier in Sonic Mania, since Super Sonic can dash but that sacrifices his rings.
Having Hyper Sonic appear just once in 3D would be interesting especially since Frontiers was going into the history and origin of the chaos emeralds. I think we should definitely at least see it once more because nothing else from the classic era has really been left behind.

One thing that gives me hope is that in one tweet from Morio Kishimoto he said that he had interest in exploring new forms for Sonic, answering a question about Hyper Sonic. So while the Hyper form itself might not come back, maybe something similar could show up in a future game
New forms would be cool but Super should still be the strongest, forms like Darkspine and Excalibur are awesome despite not being half as powerful. We should've gotten the cyber form that was built up in Frontiers

@@semu8030 I think the DLC would probably just make Super Tails and Super Knuckles canon again if anything, and introduce Super Amy or a similar concept, assuming that the other characters get to play through the whole game including bosses
@@cherry_flavored_content The third DLC will have a new story for the game with Knuckles, Tails and Amy being playable. The idea of bringing super Knuckles, super Tails and super Amy sounds really ambitious and I doubt that will be the case. Through the game's story, the three of them mentioned they want to travel around the world or "be on their own for some time", so I'm guessing the DLC will show us just that. They could make the three characters playable in the islands but I think that would brake the game. If Tails can fly, Amy can jump higher and Knuckles can glide and climb, we as players could skip pretty much any limitations the game originally had, but on the other hand if the developers don't give these characters such abilities, fans will get pissed because they don't play as expected. That third DLC is the one I'm most worried about, because Sonic Team is risking a lot there
@@semu8030 It is a very ambitious thing yeah, but at the same time I guess it would make sense that they can break the game, Sonic can already do some things to skip sections by boosting off rails or using the 100%-not-a-glitch homing dash, and given that they're DLC that probably would only be unlocked at the end of the game, it's more like a reward. It's like Super Sonic in the classic games, the invincibility and extra attributes makes the game a non-issue, but it's fun.
The idea of it being their own adventures would be pretty cool, but I think it's more likely that those would be reserved to their own spin-offs
Definetly the most underrated forms from the Sonic franchise:
- Hyper Sonic, (Sonic & Knuckles)
He looks unique and is the ultimate form basically. I really enjoyed the appearance of it and how giant Sonic's spikes got. I really love this form and wish we could see more, specially because of how mysterious it truly is.
- Darkspine Sonic, (Sonic & The Secret Rings)
Because... well it looked nice? I liked the firey powers, and the logic behind it. Sonic absorved the power from the negative rings, meaning if he had all 7 power rings, he would have got some Superspine Sonic? which means "this is not even his final form"! I want to at least see some outside art from the devs that shows us what Superspine would look like.
- Turbo Sonic, (from the Sonic Adventure games).
The execution in gameplay was weird but cmon the concept was cool! Sonic focusing the energy of his spin dash on himself to get to move like quicksilver is a cool concept.
- Excalibur Sonic, (Sonic & The Black Knight).
It simply looks UNIQUE, the transformation was like some Super Sentai or Power Ranger sequence, or something from Saint Seiya. The story of this game was also underrated.
- Dark Sonic, (Anime Sonic X)
Yes its canonically weaker than Super Sonic, but who cares? it was cool. In the japanese dub Dark Sonic wasn't like a "edgy psycho" like in the 4kids dub. In the official version of the anime (JP Dub) he was quiet... and just aggressive. I liked it.

He then needs to not get just angry, but be filled with multiple dark emotions. He needs despair, fear, anger, and uneasiness.
Sonic Mania shows that the Super Emeralds are still in that Alter. But now they are cracked and damaged. Plus they have lost their power.
Hyper Sonic and Hyper Tails was cool. They should definitely bring both of them back. Having the animals help Tails fight was a nice touch.
Would be pretty sick if hyper came back. They could even make a new dlc for frontiers, incorporating an island to find collectibles like in the base game to maybe power up each super emerald like you would in S3&K. Heck, maybe even a new even cooler final boss.
It would be better to save it for the sequels. Flesh out the origin of the chaos emerald and tie them into the super emeralds at the same time. I'm still really interested to see where that storyline was going

There could have totally been recreations of the super emeralds in cyber space in frontiers so that sonic could be hyper sonic for the final boss considering they used super sonic for all the other bosses.
I think i read that in one of the comics is that the power of hyper sonic was so great it nearly killed those who used them so they locked them away. Tho theres also something matpat said, but i don't remember which video it was.

I think it would be fun as a end of game form that you can explore with and maybe do bonus levels or something
It'd be simpler if Sega just figured out a real way the Super Emeralds could be used. Like how they could create an alternative way the Master Emerald could potentially power UP the Chaos Emeralds and unify their energy to make them stronger. Or in Super form, Sonic powers the Chaos Emeralds with his new abilities in order to make them much more powerful then they were before, and then ABSORBS them once again. Simple.

Maybe they could write it to where he has to get all the chaos emeralds along with fusing with the master emerald to do it. Cuz we’ve never seen him use the master emerald before

I hope we get a game where the super emeralds show up but they get spread around the world and we have to find them, but we have the chaos emeralds to help, and the final boss has us turn hyper. Maybe we can use hyper in post game, a dlc, and maybe an appearance of dark sonic too for the sonic x fans.

If you think its underrated its because fans already know how strong he is, hyper sonic on the other hand hasn't really gotten any chanse to prove his strenght against powerful enemies unlike super sonic.
Mania's Super sonic in the final battle is literally Hyper Sonic, but without the broken instant destruction flash and able to fly
I think due to Hyper originally going to be in the game, that's probably where we were meant to use him.

It would be nice to see Hyper Sonic in a game after Sonic 3. Like you said, the Super Emeralds are in another dimension, so maybe someone out there could make a game to reach that distance.

There is a way to Sonic to transform into Hyper Sonic but it’s impossible
Step 1: He needs to recollect all 7 Chaos Emeralds again
Step 2: He needs to convince Knuckles to get powers from the Master Emerald
Step 3: He needs to use all 7 Emeralds then go Super
Final Step: He needs to touch the Master Emerald to go Hyper
And that’s all steps

Honestly with sonic prime multiverse and sonic multiverse just have egg man open a rift to them and then sonic collects them and goes hyper sonic.

I think it's better lore wise that super sonic remains sonic's strongest form as it makes no sense that a tool with infinite power needs another tool to be used at full potential.

If I recall correctly, in Sonic Mania the player can find the Super Emeralds cracked and grey... meaning it was a one time thing in Sonic 3...
