Still, not all concerns they listed are invalid to bring up. But Kaspersky has been the most long term reliable AV vendor for a long time now, and that that company is now getting buried below a political conflict is a real shame.

I mean, it's not as if you're the first one with that idea. That was my idea when Kaspersky first started getting prominent. But from what I've seen since, while IDK if there may or may not be some Kaspersky employees with not so clean pasts, they sure are excellent AV people. Kaspersky has uncovered hacks by global actors like Israel (which is arguably, US aside, the nation with the most advanced cyber arsenal), you don't do that by having connections with Russian hackers.
Ukraine, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia. They have a lot of powerful hackers. Why there aren't antiviruses made by Pakistan people or Saudi Arabia then? They are much better than the Russians, who work with FSB (former KGB).
i see you've tested avast, and norton 6 years ago, would it be possible to try them out with your ransomware test ? ( is Norton the same as Symantec endpoint protection ) so far as the 2 video's i'm sticking with bitdefender :)
I use Eset since Smart Security 3 and I have to admit that I didn't expect to fail the ransomware test. On the other hand I noticed that Eset had 98.22% on final pro-active detection in the "Eset Review 2024: Tested in depth vs Malware" video against Kaspersky which had 96.53% in the other video "Kaspersky vs 2000 malware". How is this explained?
1. Margin of Error 2. Malware in general is not the same as ransomware in particular. 3. This is one test. 4. The percentage can be somewhat misleading because some applications may be allowed to run before being stopped. For instance, with Kaspersky, you can observe that it permits the ransomware to execute for a short period before it decides to roll back any changes made. This results in Kaspersky receiving a "miss" even though it ultimately prevented the malicious software from causing harm. This more reactive approach is typically adopted to reduce the risk of false positives.
I need your help on something. When I leave my laptop idle for around 5 minutes I'll hear the fans ram up like crazy. it goes away in a minute or so then they ram up again later. When I touch the mouse, the fan noise also immediately goes off. I've done a virus scan in Kaspersky virus removal tool and it came up safe. I also made sure to update windows to the lastest update to make sure it's not a windows bug and it still happens
Your laptop's fan revving could be due to background processes running during idle time, so you can try checking Task Manager for any high CPU or disk usage, adjusting Power Settings to balance performance, reviewing Task Scheduler for idle-time tasks, tweaking thermal settings in the BIOS or vendor software, and ensuring that dust buildup isn't causing overheating.
Most likely nothing to worry about. Same happens on my laptop as well. It's windows automatic maintenance service doing its thing when it detects user inactivity. You can disable that and have maintenance only run manually when you choose to do it. It could also be the AV software doing a scan when it also detects the user is away.
I hope you'll make a tier list video of the all anti virus. Also create a video for the best settings/setups for the best antivirus apps. Thank you very much
My Kaspersky was working fine no matter the ban after i changed the Update Servers to non USA servers, but since 3 or 4 days ago it seems is not updating the database. Does Bitdefender free edition features protections against ransomware like Kaspersky free?
Yes. Almost all AV software uses the same AV engine for every product "tier". All you get in the higher tiers are additional features, things like: firewall, vpn, password manager, etc. He did Bitdefender Free in part 1, it worked just the same as the Enterprise Bitdefender and Kaspersky did here in Part 2.
Well you will have added ransomware Protection and several layers, however the free version is pretty powerful but it might not be able to stop certain nasty ransomware in time
kaspersky is very very good, not surprised tht it did wht it was supposed to do, nd the best thing about it is tht it doesnt scan its history file like windows defender, tht thing kept giving me false positives on stuff i hv already removed, had to delete the scan history file for it to finally realize tht all is good.
I have been noticing issues with Bitdefender as far as gaming. I have been getting stutters. Never happened before with Kaspersky (I am in the US and was forced to change). I have found at least initially adding the EXE to exceptions under Advanced Threat Defense has helped. Not a fan of the solution because I might need to add my whole game library. Any suggestions on an alternative to Bitdefender? I am using the free version. I love the performance of the software but it messing with my gaming is no bueno
Luckily I have moved out of US and retired to southeast Asia and continue to use Kaspersky. I truly hope their ban in the US won't affect their overall performance in long run.
I mean, it's a shame tbh, like, it doesn't matter if a US citizen supports Russia and would get down on their knees and socks putins chickens, the FSB are still going to use your personal data because, well, you're a US citizen 😅
For ESET you didn't enable "Setup > Computer protection > Device Control" & "Setup > Security tools > Secure Data". These 2 are important cause by enabling them, it will check every single file before running! Also, you better use the "Smart Security Premium" version of ESET (Which doesn't really matter but the two options I said earlier are more important)
Nice video, as always! I just like the way you test the antivirus products, especially when behavioural detections are more and more important nowadays. At the same time, I would also love to see a test with ESET Smart Security Premium rather than ESET Internet Security because ESET Smart Security Premium has a new sandboxing feature to ensure that apps are executed only when they are known to be safe in the cloud sandbox. Last time, I was installing a driver for a printer in the library, and ESET told me that they were analysing an unknown file in the cloud. Such a feature is only available in the Premium plan (Smart Security Premium) but not the Essential plan (Internet Security). Given that ESET has poor HIPS results, I think we can also evaluate the product's sandbox-analysis capabilities for never-before-seen threats as well. As this is a new feature, I would really love to see how it works against unknown ransomware~
Not a real test. Look at the dates of the test. ESET has changed the virus and noticed that on 30.5.2024 (the test is done on 29.5.2024) while the others are in October. As if the author wanted to eye ESET. It would be fair if you did all the tests on the same day. Bitdefender 10/15/2024 Malwarebytes 10/14/2024 Kaspersky 10/11/2024 ESET 05/29/2024
I wish there that we would see part 3 of the video as well. Which includes Trend Micro maximum Security, Norton, Avast consumer products against unknown ransomware sample. In my opinion Trend Micro's EDR capabilities are better it would be interesting to see against an unknown ransomware sample which is custom made. Please consider this request.
I was also wondering if you test chrome extensions that are part of Endpoint protection package like "mind security endpoint" from shearwater group or squareX, although squareX is not technically a endpoint solution but more of a chrome extension to detect and mitigate stuff ( or at least they claim it to be)?
It'd be interested in which "Rescue disks" are most effective. Say for example you're in the IT department of an org. Right at the end of the day, you find out you've had a security breach and some malware has made it on to some machines. But you're reasonably certain, at best it's only on half a dozen systems for whatever reason, and they're currently powered off. In this scenario, what would be the best scanner that is USB bootable? Does it even make a difference being able to scan / quarantine without having to boot into the OS?
Got really happy after seeing the Kaspesrky result as it is the antivirus i use, but i'd like to know if the free version would result the same or if maybe the malware wouldn't be detected by it.
@@rootdevelopment And yet the only difference between kaspersky free and paid (In terms of detection) is a crappy firewall Strange how that could be the case :/
I have a question could you please tell me if I have to choose between Kaspersky and Bitdefender, which is more lightweight and less resource intensive. Thank You.
I’m not sure how realistic it is that the malware would open a cmd window and show you what it’s doing. If you close it does it end the malware process? Maybe some of the products expect it to be in the background? They maybe can tell you directly ran it and it’s running in the foreground in full view.

Ukraine, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia. They have a lot of powerful hackers. Why there aren't antiviruses made by Pakistan people or Saudi Arabia then? They are much better than the Russians, who work with FSB (former KGB).
@@9SMTM6so did Bitdefender that's why it's never promoted outside of Romania
Can you test Microsoft Defender with ASR settings on?
You still did not test Microsoft Defender Business and Enterprise solutions
Sad that Malwarebytes failed this test but does this mean I should change AV's? Good Video. Thanks for doing a part 2
i see you've tested avast, and norton 6 years ago, would it be possible to try them out with your ransomware test ? ( is Norton the same as Symantec endpoint protection )
so far as the 2 video's i'm sticking with bitdefender :)
1. Margin of Error
This channel is invaluable.
Oh my poor ESET...and to think I extended my license just this year...well, if nothing changes for its duration I'll be changing my solution.
I appreciate the straight to the point information.
Im honesty surprised and disappointed, that ESET and Malwarebytes didn’t detect this. Especially ESET.
Sometimes, it is the AV working in the backgroud. Mine does the same
@@tablettablete186 does it perform multiple scans? because it happens quite more than once
@@Michel-dx1bn Mine is somethinh like backgroud services or something, and it happens every time I leave the computer for more than 30min
Most likely nothing to worry about. Same happens on my laptop as well. It's windows automatic maintenance service doing its thing when it detects user inactivity. You can disable that and have maintenance only run manually when you choose to do it. It could also be the AV software doing a scan when it also detects the user is away.
I wonder if Bitdefender is lighter on ressources now. I would choose between both Bitdefender and Kaspersky based on that if they are equally good
Neither will impact system performance in any meaningful way. A web browser uses more resources than either of them.
Nope! i switched from bitdefender to Kaspersky because of that.
@@avyam7509 Doubting to but still have more then half a year of subscription
Kaspersky FTW. it is obvious.
I did try a few tests on my own and it was lighter than Kaspersky
@@MTGeomanceryes it will work but the paid one also has an additional ransomware Protection with a restore option, that the free doesn't include.
Will there be a third video of this test with Avast Free and other AV? Thanks.
Bitdefender+Kaspersky= hackers have no hope
Unfortunately this is not a expensive sophisticated zero day ransomware, but yes they will stop most zero days.
Never run multiple antivirus solutions. Defender can run in the background a bit.
How different are the free version of bitdefender compared to the others versions?
Well you will have added ransomware Protection and several layers, however the free version is pretty powerful but it might not be able to stop certain nasty ransomware in time
I wish you had tested F-Secure as well Leo.
kaspersky is very very good, not surprised tht it did wht it was supposed to do, nd the best thing about it is tht it doesnt scan its history file like windows defender, tht thing kept giving me false positives on stuff i hv already removed, had to delete the scan history file for it to finally realize tht all is good.
Can you test an actual version of TrendMicro against Ransomware? Would appreciate it very much
PLEASE
are bitdefender's customer solutions as good as their enterprise solutions?
F-secure with same test and Avg/Avast/McAfee/Norton as the biggest pains out there too?
0:20 Didn't go well? Well that's vague. As in these programs did worse than Defender? Or Defender failed?
Defender failed
What software are you using for sandboxing?
Have you ever tried Defender with like messing with the settings with DefenderUI?
Would like to see Surfshark AV in a future video.
i used it before but bitdender is better
Its crap.
Bitdefender 10/15/2024
Malwarebytes 10/14/2024
Kaspersky 10/11/2024
ESET 05/29/2024
Can you also try the new Comodo CIS 2025?
what type of Sandbox do you use?
Would it make any substantial difference if you did these tests with your internet connection disabled?
Nope, these are on system behavioral detections. The file in unknown to the cloud anyway.
@@pcsecuritychannel Would it not effect the AV's cloud sandbox
Mind adding Deep Instinct to your tests (or provide me your sample privately with me sharing the result of testing using DI)?
I wish there that we would see part 3 of the video as well. Which includes Trend Micro maximum Security, Norton, Avast consumer products against unknown ransomware sample. In my opinion Trend Micro's EDR capabilities are better it would be interesting to see against an unknown ransomware sample which is custom made. Please consider this request.
What app are you using to edit your videos
I was also wondering if you test chrome extensions that are part of Endpoint protection package like "mind security endpoint" from shearwater group or squareX, although squareX is not technically a endpoint solution but more of a chrome extension to detect and mitigate stuff ( or at least they claim it to be)?
what was trhe conclusion? which is best?
It'd be interested in which "Rescue disks" are most effective.
Say for example you're in the IT department of an org. Right at the end of the day, you find out you've had a security breach and some malware has made it on to some machines. But you're reasonably certain, at best it's only on half a dozen systems for whatever reason, and they're currently powered off.
In this scenario, what would be the best scanner that is USB bootable? Does it even make a difference being able to scan / quarantine without having to boot into the OS?
Kaspersky rollback feature is nice on ransomware but it would be a disaster when it comes to infostealer which you can't "rollback" sent data
Kaspersky would just block that threat before even running
Eset is havent ramsomware protection?
Why norton isnt in that comparison?
It's a nsa antivirus 😂.
@@avyam7509 😂
Got really happy after seeing the Kaspesrky result as it is the antivirus i use, but i'd like to know if the free version would result the same or if maybe the malware wouldn't be detected by it.
When I did my testing the free version did not catch it after writing it.
The free version of Kaspersky doesn't hinder its detection performances, so the results would be pretty much the same
@@rootdevelopment And yet the only difference between kaspersky free and paid (In terms of detection) is a crappy firewall
Strange how that could be the case :/
Pcsecuritychannel, the channel owner, said in another comment that the free versions of both K. and Bitdefender do detect and stop this.
Any chance of testing Gdata for this?
