- Many older games such as The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time are receiving support from fans and getting ported to a variety of different platforms with enhancements. In this case Ship of Harkinian is an enhanced port of OOT that allows for 60fps gameplay, higher resolutions and a number of other enhancements. This version runs native on Steam Deck which eliminates the need for an emulator. In this video I will walk you through how you can set this version up for your Steam Deck. This game runs extremely well on the Steam Deck and you can achieve 60fps with an expected 5 to 6 hours of battery life on your Steam Deck.

This just became my next Steam Deck project. Maybe I'll actually finish the game this time. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for making this so easy! I got it up and running in no time. Also, this is my first play through! Wish me luck😊
Good luck! Be sure to get that Biggoron sword 🗡️
Fantastic video. A year later, the Devs have made it even easier to set up. Blown away by how well it runs! So much fun to play on the deck.
what has changed?
Do you know if you can force it going into fullscreen/keep the settings on startup or do you have to change the settings every time you launch it from game mode? Also is it possible to get Emulation Station to pick up the rom if you place it in the N64 emudeck rom folder? Or is this not detectable by emulation station?
This literally took all of 20 seconds. Thanks for the straightforward video
Thanks for the guide
The graphics looked this good to me when I originally played it as a kid
it being an old game has no bearings if it runs good on pc/steam deck considering it's a decompiled port to pc it should run fine but it's not finished so may have hi-cups!
I added that same app image to steam as a non-steam program but it refuses to launch in game mode am I doing something wrong?
Okay, about to play for the first time, was setting a picture via emudeck when I found out this exists, still a bit on the fence about which one I should play since the only graphics comparison is from 4 months ago, very excited
Everything worked but when I change settings in game mode (since I cannot use f keys in desktop mode on deck) the gamr doesn't update the settings. 🤔
Ship of Harkinian on Steam Deck?
I was downloading it and the first time I did, it's audio worked fine. I ended up deleted it but deciding to redownload it. Audio doesn't play anymore, what do I do?
Installed it on two steam decks with the linux install and it ignores all keyboard key presses including F1
Full screen toggle is broken for me, if I toggle full screen to get rid of the bar on top, the game pops over to a little corner on the bottom left instead of being full screen, and the navigation bar is still there.. any idea what the deal with that is? Anybody know a fix?
got WoW and consoleport running today.. looks like this is next
Great vids bros thanks 😃
I am a Linux newbie. I was able to get the game running from the downloads folder but I don't know how/where the SSD is so I can move there. I can't add to steam as a non steam game because it does not seem to know about the downloads folder. Any suggestions on a video to watch to show how to move a folder onto the SSD?
Are you in desktop mode? On my deck the SD card is mounted under /run/media/(name of the card). There you can just right click, and create a new folder or drag and drop to move folders.
Maybe try slowing down a bit and enunciating better but i like how you get right to the point.
How do I press f1 on the steam deck
I got this working for just opening the appimage, but trying to launch it from within game mode, or even desktop mode and launching it from steam, it'll immediately close and refuse to open :/
the game'll still work outside of steam so I know it's not a problem with that... any idea how to help? :/
Sorry to hear that 😔 I would recommend uninstalling it/removing it entirely then trying again. The discord server for SOH can probably provide more help than I can with issues. Best of luck to you.
@@SteelLodge thanks for this! Similar issue-removing and re-adding it helped 👍
Did you get it to work?
Can you do this for master quest?
if you find a supported master quest rom then you should be able to use that in the installation
I have no idea whats wrong but when i try to open soh.appimage it doesnt open, Ive tried the performance and compatibility versions, 2 computers and a rom Ive used before to install it on windows but it still refuses to open, Im running on ubuntu if that helps
Please help
I try to set soh. appimage in my steam library, but when I'm opening the folder, there's nothing there.. I tried adding it by "right clicking" on the appimage, and add it to steam that way, but when I try to open it, it tells me to put the appimage in the folder. (it is)
But it still plays in desktop mode. (The folder is on the desktop)
Am I missing a step to add it to my library?
Mine does the same
Im having this exact issue, did anyone figure this out??
@@sprayartist8459 I figured it out but honestly forgot what I did… I think someone else commented how to fix it or I googled it
@@theaveragemegaguy I figured it out, I just manually set the target from steam
@@sprayartist8459 The shortcut is not .desktop so you'll have to click All Files to find it.
What version of OoT do I need to download for this? Not asking where, just what version I need.
You need the debug version
Somehow the steamdeck is lagging for me... I don't know how this is possible with a 30 year old game, but it dips under 60 fps which causes audio pop. ESPECIALLY in the menus for some reason
If you are having trouble it is most likely that the steam deck is underclocking a bit too much. You could install the power tools plugin and mess around with the clock rate
If you set a framerate above 60fps the audio will lag like crazy
Man imagine playing Wind Waker on this with texture packs on here. O.o
what about the rom i get a error
You need to get a debug version of the rom and drop it in the same folder before running the app image.
4:32 lmao
Orcarina?
Seeing the game in 60FPS feels so off
If you played the N64 growing up you were playing the game at 20fps. It will definitely feel off when playing at 60.
Valley girl...
Even with the community project textures idk if this is worth running.
The original textures of the 64 version look so poor, 3ds version with hd textures is a no brainer, the only thing I prefer with the original is that it was built for single screen.
Maybe this will evolve into the best way to play it but original 64 textures for ocarina are an eyesore as is imo, simple upscaling doesnt do much.
I hate zoomers so god damn much.
importing models and textures is possible and is being worked on.
The 3ds version doesn't run well on steamdeck at 60 (at least for me) even without HD textures. With HD textures I can only imagine it would be unplayable. It's just much more finicky to get working smoothly. It also has a worse camera, and screen swapping.
If you can get it working it's absolutely the better option for now, but I can only imagine if model swaps and texturepacks come out for the PC port it'll be the obvious choice
A year later but yeah I'm not playing this until they have custom model support, it's on their roadmap and I'm sure it's a top piority for how obvious of an improvement it is.
lol feel like this would be worth it if it were the 3D version.
Could you go a little faster?
Right?
It's a 6 minute full install guide... that's not bad
Too bad the 3DS version exists now I can never go back.
OOT 3D is great.
Oot3d is eons better looking, and adds the extra mode. Con to using the 3d version though is the fact you need to swapscreen.
@@johnfrankster3244 what he doesnt cover in this video in installing texture mods to this to make it look way better than the 3ds version ever could
@@butosai2539 Except i know the texture mods available, and the fact its the n64 port means that the textures are for that versions base. When the base textures of the 3ds already look better, the upgraded textures are going to aswell rofl.
Your not going to make an n64 ported version look like Cyberpunk rofl.
The fact you think the textures will look better than what is available already on 3ds is because you have literally nfi what your talking about lol.
Just wait a bit. I am sure people will have 3ds or better textures soon
It's a shame that most people will just say "it runs great" and never talk about frametimes and how that affects the way it feels greatly.
