Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly press vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, it's pretty nuts. Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. I got a 2015 Kia Soul a few months ago, and it quickly became my most favorite car of my entire driving life (since 1982). This is one fantastic car, and I'll drive this model for a couple of years or so, depending on maintenance, and then upgrade to a 2019 model, with all the options! I recommend these bad ass cars to everyone!

I have a 2014 Kia soul. It was new when I purchased it. For the past two years, two dealerships have tried to figure out why the engine light comes on sporadically. Last Thursday Kia decided to replace the engine at no cost. The car consumed a quart of oil ever 4 weeks. What I like about Kia is the 10year or 100,000 whichever comes first. However, engine problems and car fires can become deadly.
Not deadly as cheap takata airbags on toyota, honda, nissan, gm, ford, etc; except hyundai and kia which don't use cheap airbags.
I have a 2012, also had an intermittent check engine. Hooked it up to the scanner and bad knock sensor. Should b replacing it when i get the part

I work at a Kia Dealer and I just purchased a 2020 soul in MR3 Orange and I love my soul ,I wanted a nice basic transportation vehicle and this compact SUV has everything I need and it looks really different than anything on the road and it gets alot of attention and thumbs up from people .its a blast to drive ....great vehicle for the 21000 I spent on it. Very well built and solid.

Surprised the 2.0 is that spry. I’ve seen previously that the 1.6T is quick but too costly, at around 28k. I’m still torn as the packaging of the Soul is great in any trim.
I have a 2.0L 6 speed auto soul and it's a good engine. I wouldn't go any lower, but it can move pretty good. Took it up to 118mph once, using the sportmatic "manual" shift.
The 2020 model has a 6 speed manual for the 2.0L engine also
I bought the 2017 soul brownstone edition. It has the 2.0 and I couldn't be happier. Put that baby in sport mode haha

Leds suck. They are blinding in heavy rain and fog, and they don't generate heat so they frost over during winter. Plus they are bad for the eyes. I'm glad mine is halogens
It seems nice. I had two of the first gen souls. An ! Auto and a Manual + "dragon edition" .. They were great and probably the most practical vehicle i've ever owned. If I can build the 2.0L fully loaded with leather seats and full LED lighting I might buy one! I hate the way they package the turbo..

Not really. At 33 highway it's pretty bad for a car that weighs 500lbs less and has a smaller engine than a 2018 Camry. I averaged 38.8 mpg from California to WA.

@@alexisthemexican my grandma's 2013 Kia soul got 32 to 34 mpg average 50% highway driving. It was with the 2.0 L 4-cylinder. Also, Kia Soul has much more "drag" or wind resistance than a Camry. The Soul is considered an SUV.
@@itsjay7237 yeah but what was your avg speed? I would of averaged like 80 if it wasn't for Oregon's slow speed limits and drivers. Other than averaged like 68 for the 420 mile stretch

This is definitely the next vehicle on my list. Currently have a 2013 Accent with 198,000 kilometres on it, it's been great but damn the new Soul looks great, the EX premium is about $25K (in Canada).

You think “american” you want softer suspension even sacrificing handling??? Remember stiffer suspensions are safer suspensions in case of emergency lane change, for example... I had a 2013 soul in 6 speed manual and the suspension was so soft and bouncy that when I was shifting the front was going way up and the rear all the way to the ground almost. I hated it!!!
You can turn stop/start off as well
Didn't know it had the start stop thing and glad you can turn it off, it is annoying and talk about wearing out the starter. Car companies just put them on there cars to help come in with better gas mileage ratings.
I know that the headlights on the x line are halogens, but they look really white in this video. Is it just the camera that make them appear like that?

GT Line is probably the best way to go; not a real fan of the x-line styling. Plus, the GT gets the turbo; however, since it's CVT only, it is not on my list. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of my '04 GTI, blue dash lights, red radio/climate buttons and beam rear axle.
The GT w/turbo gets a DCT trans, not CVT.
I hare CVT's and I don't like how the engine is constantly revving and rmp's at 70 - 80mph seem high.
The CVT on the 2 liter Soul has the engine turning 2,800 rpm at 70 mph while in Drive mode, but shifting into Sport mode allows you to access two overdrive gears (7 and 8) which drop the revs down to 2,100. It's a hidden trick that many people don't know of, and it's weird that Kia doesn't let those two gears be accessed automatically, which is how most people drive their Soul.
I own the 2020 Soul LX with the 6-speed manual, which turns 2,800 rpm at 70 mph in 6th gear. I test drove an X-line Soul just today and I am very impressed with the CVT. It uses a chain instead of a belt. It takes off without that rubber band effect, will downshift quickly into a simulated lower gear and, as theTopher says, it "puts its power down well." Though I only drove it on flat land, it didn't hunt for gears and got up to speed swiftly while staying at low revs up to 75 mph. On the highway, I tried out the 8th simulated gear in Sport mode and the revs dropped to 2,250 at 75 mph...very nice! Nearing 30,000 miles driving my stick shift Soul, I am seriously thinking about getting myself that automatic. I will miss using the clutch to rocket off the line on highway on ramps, but will gladly trade that for lower revs at 70 mph.

CVT transmission, that's a deal killer and KIA has rather significant problem with engines catching fire. I love the car but just don't think the reliability is there.

It's basically a LX with a bit of rugged touches. Which makes what it is which it is a 2020 Kia Soul X-Line.

I think is ridiculous to put simulated gears on a CVT. Why didn’t KIA leave the 6-speed auto in the first place?
CVT's are cheaper, and I think would take less space up.
The 6 speed auto was a good pairing, which is quite surprising they got rid of it on the soul.
The shifts are not simulated; they are actual, preset gear ratio changes between the two CVT drums. Kia switched to a CVT (as with all the other manufacturers using one) because of intense regulatory pressures to maximize fuel economy.
Ken Howard CVT’s are designed to maintain the engine at the most efficient range at whatever speed, something that traditional automatic transmission can’t do. What I am saying is that putting those “actual gear ratio change” it’s ridiculous and kill completely the purpose of the CVT. If you didn’t know, CVT’s don’t have gears, they have 2 pulleys and 1 belt to change the ratio.

Your best bet is to get the Kia Soul turbo vs the Kia Soul GT line. The Turbo and the GT line are different trims. Not the same. The Kia Soul turbo is the top of the line trim for the souls right now. Just saying

I work for a rental company and these are by far my favorite type of car to ride
I have one and there is a noise in the steering. It's been to the kia shop twice. For some reason they can't get the noise out even after they changed the steering shaft. Any input on this ?
